What is the style/fashion in 2013/2014?

Q. for winter, fall, spring, summer

Answer
Style 101: What are the top fall/winter fashion trends for 2013?
Jennifer McLeodFashion Modeling Examiner

October 7, 2013
The fall season marks the beginning of cooler temperatures and preparation for the upcoming holidays. The Huffington Post, Glamour, Harperâs Bazaar and Cosmopolitan help modern muses stay in vogue through fall/winter's hottest trends.

Winter White
On the runway this season, head-to-toe winter white makes one of the strongest impressions. Derek Lam, Proenza Schouler and Tommy Hilfiger notes this easy to assemble season-spanning shade, is a no-brainer addition to the most wearable trends list. Glamour magazine notes, when the temperature's low, the tendency is to reach for dark colors, but why not grab a winter white piece instead? A chic coat fits in at the office, and denim works for the weekend. Do save flouncy pieces for spring by choosing weather-appropriate staples such as chunky knits, heavier materials and designs that make sense in autumn.

Lady Fairytale
Erotically charged is fall-winter 2013/2014's lady. Collections show lingerie inspired pieces featuring romance and mystery in capes, high necks and grand silhouettes. Robes of cardinals, monks, nuns and priests are the inspiration behind some of the season's most note-worthy shows.

Academically-Inspired
Back-to-school is synonymous with fall, collections by Tory Burch saw crisp button-ups layered underneath cardigans worn with tweed pants, Chanel dresses up tweed in their Haute Couture collection through skirts and suits while Alice + Olivia runs with argyle and plaid. Patterns are classic; pinstripes and leopard make appearances on the runway while houndstooth is a breakout star.

50 Shades of Gray, Blue and Green
Not everything is black or white. Fall's runways are rife with the in-between, from charcoal to slate, consider it the new neutral. The fall 2013 runways showcase a wide range of cool blue hues, from navy to Valentino's cobalt jumpsuit to Prada's ladylike sky-blue gingham sheath, while declared the âitâ color of 2013, emerald and shades of green appear in collections by Phillip Lim, Pantone, and Carolina Herrera.

Vintage Inspired-Mod-Mini Dresses-Pleated Skirts-Autumn Florals-Grunge
Diana Argon showcases Marc Jacobs spring/summer take on floral patterns in â50s style, while the '60s mod era influences capes, thigh-high boots and Twiggy-inspired mini-dresses. Calvin Klein and Celine borrow from theâ70s and early â80s with their high waists and pleats, while the grunge spirit of the '90s fits right into the mold of fallâs tough-girl approach to layered styling shown at Rodarte.

Leather
Some of the best fashion houses from Chanel to Vionnett show this season's rebel woman with wardrobe including zips, chains and studs. Leather embellishments and details appear on collars, blouses, t-shirts, jackets, skirts and pants.

Accessories- Shoes-Outerwear
Finally, designers spared no angular line or boxy shape in their new structural bags and
handheld accessories. Itâs been more than a few years since thigh-high boots re-introduced themselves, while smaller heels, color blocking and flats make appearances complimenting hats, gloves and statement coats for go-to trends of the season.

I don't know what shoes to get for my graduation?! HELP!?

Q. So my grad is quite aways from now but I like to have everything organized and in advanced so I know how everything will look and turn out except I'm having a dilemma with what kind of shoes to get to match my dress..

This is my dress:
http://alyceparis.com/prom/alyce-prom-dresses-2013/silky-chiffon-strapless-prom-dress-6084.html

So I know silver sparkly shoes would probably look really good but almost EVERY girl always wears them and I don't really want to. I mean, I obviously will if they look the best but I want to ask your guys opinion on what others color shoes might look good or if I should just go with silver. I was thinking something like purple or pink even?

Examples:
Pink - http://www.amazon.com/Enzo-Angiolini-Womens-Showyou-Peep-Toe/dp/B006ZI6A2S/ref=sr_1_8?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1351656545&sr=1-8&keywords=peep+toe+heels
or
http://www.amazon.com/Inch-Sequins-Shoes-Glamour-Pumps/dp/B009DQ4GO8/ref=sr_1_6?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1351656695&sr=1-6&keywords=peep+toe+heels
The above link in the colors you can see the pink and silver shoes which I could get.
I havent really found a good example of a nice lavender or purple shoe I like yet so if anyone could show me some links to some, or give me some links to really good shoe stores that I could order from too would be helpful. Thank you!
Maybe even a blue like the blue in the beading just under the bust of the dress?

Answer
I'm graduating this year too! And like you, I'm already thinking about what I'll be wearing to graduation, prom, etc. I love planning ahead, lol. Alright, so, I'm assuming you're choosing the white dress as that's the typical color for graduation dresses - if I'm wrong, I'll update this with suggestions for whatever color you choose! And as you know, with the ugly gown covering your dress, your shoes are going to be a main focus point. I really love the 4 inch sequined silver shoes, which as you said would perfectly match everything. You also have to take into consideration you don't want your shoes to class with your graduation gown, such as wearing pink shoes with ... I dunno, I really can't think of any suggestions, but I'm sure you understand what I mean. Other alternatives are even making your own shoes. Find a pump or flat that you like, and turn it into a glitter shoe in whatever color you prefer. (http://joythebaker.com/2012/05/how-to-make-summer-city-shoes/) Maybe create a design on whatever shoe you choose to make it your own. Sorry this isn't much more help, it's late here and I'm running on caffeine. cx Good luck with choosing though, and Class of 2013 all the way. ;D

Middle school cross country training?

Lorell

The distance is only 1.7 - 1.9 miles but with extremely steep hills. At some points, you have to put your hands down and crawl up the hill! This will be my second year and I want to surprise my coach with my improvement. I can do 5 miles at a time. And 3 or 3.5 without stopping. My best mile (flat surface) is around 6:45. I am also a girl. What workout will improve my endurance to Finish the races in under 15 minutes ?

USNA application insight?

Marvin

A little background first: I have 33 ACT composite (33 English, 34 Math, 32 Science, 34 Reading), a 3.9 unweighted, cumulative GPA, I'm a National Honor Society Member, a National Merit Commended Scholar, I got a 5 on the AP Calculus BC test.

So academically speaking, I think I have a pretty good shot, plus I have some extracurricular activities under my belt. Problem is, I did miserably on the Fitness Assessment, and I only have two weeks to take it again. My original scores are: BB Throw, 42 feet; Pullups, 11; Shuttle run, 8.9s; Crunches, 75; Pushups, 27; Mile-Run, 7:51. (I majorly screwed up on the pushups, dropping a knee like a minute in, and the run I was already tired and somewhat disheartened)

Comparatively to the rest of the application, how much weight is placed on the CFA? I can improve my pushup and mile scores just by taking it again this week and not being an idiot, but my other scores aren't exactly great either. Is this going to be a significant blow to the rest of my application?

Answer
Usna, Usma and Usafa currently utilize the CFA. None publish minimums and a Candidate cannot get minimums in each event and pass the CFA. It appears you are below the minimums in the Basketball Throw, the Mile Run and Push Ups. Significantly below in Push Ups. Luckily you are not below in Pull Ups which is the hardest event to significantly increase a score in a short period of time.
The minimums for the USAFA CFT that preceded the CFA are at the link below...
http://i50.tinypic.com/1zbdu2d.jpg
It did not include a mile run or basketball throw but included a 300 yard shuttle run.
Pullups Minimum: 4; Avg: 10 Usafa CFA Mean 11 Your Score 11
Situps Minimum: 49; Avg 69 UsafaCFA Mean 80 Your Score 75
Pushups Minimum: 24; Avg 41 Usafa CFA Mean 60 Your Score 27
Basketball Throw Usafa Mean: 69; Your Score 42 feet
Shuttle Run Usafa Mean: 8.8; Your Score 8.9
One Mile Run Usafa Mean: 6:40; Your Score: 7:51
https://admissions.usafa.edu/RRS/Online_CFA_2013.pdf

Purported USNA CFA Minimum Scores:
BB Throw: 50'; Your Score: 42
Pull Up: 5; Your Score: 11
Shuttle: 11.0s; Your Score 8.9
Push Up: 46; Your Score: 27
Sit Up: 56; Your Score: 75
1MR: 7:45; Your Score: 7:51
http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/showthread.php?t=24029

Conclusion: Probably not using your core muscles in the Basketball Throw. Have a Coach/PE Teacher/Fitness Trainer check your form and give pointers. The deadline for submitting Pre Candidate Questionnaires is Jan 31, so it is not clear why it has to be taken again in two weeks. Have you been offered an LOA and is this a condition of the LOA? Do not take the CFA again this week. Practice and get in shape.
Start this Fitness Program and do extra Pushup Ladders, see page 2:
http://www.usna.edu/PEdept/docs/Prepare%20for%20Plebe%20Summer.pdf
If you have already been running, start at whatever level you are at, but if you are advancing the pace and starting above week 1, be sure to only run on soft surfaces. It takes much longer to build up the joints and ligaments to withstand running on hard surfaces. Make sure you have good running shoes and they are not worn out as this can lead to injury.
See Info on running shoes here:

This is the fitness program you should have started last Spring/Summer:
http://www.nrotc.navy.mil/pdfs/pre-conditioning.pdf
Besides the CFA, if a Candidate has not participated in athletics, it will have an impact on his chances. Over 90% of service academy Mids/Cadets participated in varsity athletics; over 80% winning varsity letters; over 60% were team Captains and around 25% are recruited athletes.

What should I be able to do at a ballet audition?

Nicole

Hi, I have been dancing since I was five and am now turning 14 next month. I'm taking summer classes and dance only 3.5 hours a week. I have been on pointe for a year and three months. My dance teacher has not taught us turns on pointe besides soutenus and chaînés. I want to audition
For PNB's summer intensive in January in 2013 but I don't know what to expect. What do they usually have you do en pointe at the auditions?

Answer
For a ballet program like this, they will most likely check your body type. After that, you will be tested for flexibility and muscularity. After all that is done, you will start the audition. If the audition is an in class audition, which is where the audition is ran like a regular class and the instructor and directors see how you do in the class, the barre will not be en pointe but the center, adagio, petit allegro, grand allegro, and across the floor stuff will be.

Here are just a couple pointers on what you should be able to do:

Flexibility:
-You should be able to get into both your left and right split.
-You should be able to touch your nose to both of your knees when both legs are extended out in front of you.
-You should be able to to a heel stretch without struggle.

Barre:
-Nice plies. Many schools really look for a good second position grand plie because it can be the hardest to do. The second position grand plie must be low to the ground without your heels leaving the floor. If you can do this, it will show that you have the long and stretchy achilles tendons that academies look for.
-When doing exercises with a pointed foot, you should not sickle. So when doing tendus, grand battements, petit battements, ect...your toes should not get out of line with your heel and ankle.
-You should be able to hold your leg high when doing adagio at the barre, grand battements, and developpes.
-You should have a good turnout from the hip rotators.
-When told to balance on the ball of your foot, you should be able to hold it without your feet rolling left and right and without struggling to keep balance.

*Note: Barre work is not done en pointe. Just thought I'd throw it in there to give you a couple tips.

After barre work you will have time to put on your pointe shoes, stretch out, drink water, ect. Make sure when you put on your pointe shoes that your ribbon is tucked in and also that the drawstring is tucked in. Also, you should stretch out again just to make sure your body is prepared for center work.

Center:
*En Pointe

-Usually during auditions, the director or whoever is running the audition will not say practice your arabesque, attitude, pirouette, ect. Instead they will have you do adagio and allegro variations that they will first run through with you.
-When they are teaching you an allegro or adagio variation, make sure that you are in complete focus and paying close attention to everything.
-All allegro and adagio variations will be en pointe. And in these variations, there will be things such as pirouettes and pique turns.

It I was you, I would talk to your dance instructor and tell her that you are planning on auditioning for this program. Tell her that you need to learn some more advanced moves. So you should probably get a lot of private lessons with your instructor so he/she can personally teach you these moves.

Honestly, I wouldn't be too worried. You still have about 8 months to learn more. That is plenty enough time to get all the knowledge that you will need in order to audition for this program.

Good luck with your pointe work and audition! I hope you make it! :D

TEENS: Is anyone else doing NOTHING this summer?

R

I'm going to be a senior this fall. I'm panicking. I have good grades and okay test scores but NO activities outside of school. I pretty much just sit on the computer all day. It's sad, but I'm not outgoing or friendly and stink at sports.

The last few summers I have done nothing. This summer I applied to a bunch of jobs but got rejected from all of them because I am only 17. So I've just been sitting in my room, on my computer, basically doing NOTHING.

I feel guilty when I see other kids as camp counselors or doing sports. I'm scared that I won't be able to get into a good college...I literally have NO activities outside of school.

Anyone else? What should I do?

Answer
I was going to do pretty much nothing, then I made a summer bucket list :) If you want I can give it to you by editing my answer...... I will just give it to you now and if you don't want to use it you can ignore it :)

Oh I am also 17 so it should be mainly things you can do! They are lists from 2012 and 2013 :) Hope this helps!
