best running shoes to avoid shin splints image
Forgotten
I am 19 and male, if it matters. I haven't felt any pain while running lately, but there is a moderately sharp pain when I press down on a certain region of my lower leg. I prefer running in grass and fields, but there are large stretches of concrete that can't be avoided in my paths.
The question is, do I have to stop and rest for a few days if I feel any sort of pain? And for how long would I typically need to rest?
Also, are there any exercises or things to keep in mind to avoid getting shin splints?
Answer
What is too much pain?
Everyone is different and so it pain.
Ice and massage will help recovery, and wearing good shoes and running on softer surfaces can help.
Shin splints usually happen when you are running harder than normal on hard surfaces like a track or basketball court, with not too good shoes.
This happens in the early track season when people are getting into running fast and wearing spikes.
A trainer can tape the shins to help your pain during training, and ice baths after will speed up recovery.
How long you need to rest depends on the degree of injury and how fast you heal.
If you do not take care of this it can develop into a stress fracture.

What kind of athletic shoes should I get?

I'm looking for shoes for playing tennis that will be lightweight, but also durable and help me avoid shin splints and knee pain. Any suggestions?
Answer
asics are always a decent choice. Brooks brand are well made, and I recently am trying Minzuno, which I havent tried for years but I like them. I usually pay $100 for a pair of shoes...I use them all the time, for running, and they hold up well...for about 6 months (I run marathons once a year). If you pay cheap...you get cheap.
