The best running shoes?

Hot Eric G

Which shoes are the best supporting running/walking shoes on the market for treadmill?

Thanks
Erica

Answer
Are you looking for the best running shoes around? Since there are different types of running shoes, there are also a lot of running shoes that get top awards.

When looking for the best running shoe, you can't expect to find one shoe that deserves the âbestâ title solely.

The best shoe is different for every runner, depending on his specific foot type and needs. What can be best for one runner may be the worst for another. So there are certain criteria that you need to look at when looking for the best shoes for running.

Here are the winners in the various running shoe categories namely : Stability, Cushioning and Motion Control

We have considered the following brands : Nike, Adidas, Mizuno, Brooks, New Balance and Reebok running shoes.

Best Running Shoes for Stability
If it is a stability shoe that you are after and you want nothing but the best, here are some recommendations that will help you find the best pair.

Various running shoe brands came up with their own entrants to the stability shoe contest, and here are the winners.

Here are some top choices in the stability category :

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 9
Asics Gel-Kayano Series (seen in the video)
Air Zoom Structure
Let us first start with the top pick, the Brooks Adrenaline :

1) Brooks Adrenaline GTS (click here)

From leading company, Brooks, there's the Adrenaline GTS 9, an upgrade from the previous Adrenaline GTS models.

The GTS 9 was named as the best stability running shoe because of its perfect fit for neutral runners and for runners who experience mild overpronation. It also combines stability perfectly with just the right pinch of cushioning.

The best prices we have found for the Brooks Adrenaline is through Amazon.com Running Shoes Section

2) Asics Gel Kayano (Click Here)

The same perfect blend can also be found from the highly popular Asics GEL-Kayano series, especially their 14th and 15th model. Take a look at the video above to see its features.

This superb shoe is quite often sold out at prime locations due to its popularity.

Again, some of the best and cheapest picks for the Gel Kayano is normally through Amazon.com Running Shoes Section

3) For Nike Fans - Nike Pegasus Running Shoes (click here)

And if you are a Nike fan, you will find the exact same set of benefits from Nike Air Zoom Structure Triax or the Nike Pegasus that has excellent stabilty.

Based on price, the GTS 9 still wins hands down, but the two other recommended shoes offer great value for the more expensive price they have.

Best Running Shoes for Cushioning
If you have high arches, you need more cushioning because your feet tend to fall down harder than runners' feet with low arches. High-arched runners also have a lot to choose from when they are on a quest to find the best running shoe for them.

Check out :

Adidas Cushion 7
Nike Pagasus
1) adidas Response Cushion

But if you are one of the many runners looking for superior cushioning, you better check out the Adidas Supernova Cushion 7, which is an explosively famous shoe for its top-of-the-line cushioning.

The Supernova Cushion 7 from the three-stripe brand provides supple cushioning in the midsole, especially around the arch area, to perfectly protect you from foot strain.

2) Nike Pegasus Running Shoes (click here) / ASICS GEL-Nimbus 12 Worth Checking Out

If you want to check out other options, also try the Nike Air Pegasus+, the GEL-Nimbus 9 from Asics as well as the Wave Rider 11 from Mizuno.

Both of which offers a cushioned, comfortable ride that won't shock your feet.

Best Running Shoes for Motion Control
If there are high-arched runners, there are also runners with flat feet. Flat-footed runners tend to be prone to extreme overpronation, which can pose challenges and difficulties to them as they pursue the finish line.

Severe overpronation can even hurt the heel and the low arch of the foot, and this is something that will seriously get in the way of your run. To remedy the situation, what you need are the best running shoes with motion control features.

1) Mizuno Alchemy 9 ( Click Here ) for Motion Support

These shoes work to control the rolling of your feet while you run. If you need shoes with rigid motion support, you'll find great reviews for the Mizuno Wave Alchemy 9, a hands-down winner according to various reviewing bodies.

Aside from that, you can also check out the Adidas adiStar Control, which is highly recommended for intense trainers and even racers who need motion control.

I'm 15 and run for my usual exercise. I have some Asics and they have been very loyal to me but I want to know what else is out there. I rather have some lighter and MORE comfortable shoes. thanks

Answer
I have a pair of nike shocks and they are great. Very durable and are lightweight. In my opinion, probably the best running shoe out there. I also have been hearing good things on Reebok's zig tech. Its a different looking shoe but is very light weight and also comfortable.

Brooks Adrenaline 10 running shoes?

John

Two years ago, i bought the Brooks Adrenaline 8 running shoes, and they were perfect and relieved me of my knee pains. Last year, being satisfied with the 8's, I bought the 9's and that resulted in me developing shin splints and plantar faciitis. I'm skeptical about buying the 10's but has anyone else bought these and do they support your legs well?

Answer
I have had problems before with Brook running shoes. When I had them I had a knee and shin problem just like you. I looked around for a different shoe brand and found out the perfect one!

I would totally skip buying Brooks. Mizunos are the better quality ones. Its a softer feel and make you feel much better with your knees and shins. I have tried Mizunos last year and now I'm never going to buy ascis or brooks again! I had problems with my knees before and now I feel so much better. Like people say, "you got to keep looking for that golden one!"

Mizunos are the way to go!

Whats a good name for a 5k?

charley

I am currently nursing school and I have been put in charge of planning a 5k fundraiser. I cannot think of cute/clever names for our 5k. Please help!!!!

Answer
Roberta âBobbiâ Gibb was the 1st woman to complete the Boston Marathon (1966). At the time, women were not allowed to compete, but she ran it anyways. She trained in Red Cross Nurses Shoes as women's running shoes weren't available at that time.

So how about something like: The Nursing Shoe 5000

You could use a nursing shoe for the logo.

Women Runners??

V

I am thinking about starting a jogging/running exercise program to lose a few pounds that I gained recently from stress. I have heard negatives and positives about running, especially for women. Can someone give me their running plans, experiences, etc.

Answer
I really enjoy running. At first it is going to seem like work, because your body is gradually adapting to the stresses of running, but after a while, it becomes a part of your life and it's hard to live without exercising / getting that endorphin rush.

If you are starting off running, I suggest taking it slow. Perhaps run 1/4 mile and walk 3/4 of a mile and gradually build up to running over the course of 3 weeks. The reason for this is that you want to build your muscles / system to accomadate the stresses of running. Doing too much, too soon is a certain path to injury and ultimately disliking running.

If you succeed at getting into a daily habit, consider signing up for a local 5K race. They are competitive but you don't need to be a speedster to do well. You'll find other people who are runners and it becomes a social event in some cases.

There are plenty of good books that you can find at Borders. Also consider getting a subscription to http://www.runnersworld.com or http://www.runningtimes.com to learn more about the sport, apparel, and tips / tools.

Just remember to build up slowly and give yourself some rest days. Running is tough on the body and has its host of injuries. However, most can be avoided by sensible training and the right shoes.

Feel free to drop me a line if you need more suggestions / info.

Good luck.

How did the British feel about serving the Indians in India?

Silly_Goos

In the early 20th century, when Britain had control of India, how did they feel about serving them? Were they honorable men? Why or why not?
Thanks! :D

Answer
I am not understanding what you mean by the British SERVING the Indians.... ?

I know that the British USED the INDIANS to "service" THEM.
The British made the Indians servants, well, they "hired" them if that is what you wish to call it.

I recently had a neighbor whose father was a small child during the British occupation of India. The boy had been offered a job as a houseboy in a British officer's home BUT he had to have a pair of shoes to get the job. His entire family had to come together, uncles, aunts and cousins included to pool all their money to buy the boy a pair of shoes so he could get this job to be able to help support his family.
The officer never considered that the boy's family was simply too poor to afford shoes and just figured the child was a semi-barbarian and was doing him a favor by working him 12-14 hrs a day for a very small pittance, and not as a young man feeding his family.
An Elitist attitude will do that.

Indian soldiers serving in the military were mostly strong, honorable men, serving on BOTH sides.
Of course, the British looked down upon them as inferiors.
Not all, but most.
Conquerors always feel superior.

I guess it really depended on what side you were on, the British side or the opposing Indian side.

Keep in mind that India was already a great, complex, learned, and ANCIENT society when Alexander the Great invaded them..... while residents of the British Isles were running around in fur loinclothes.

Just not really sure what you are asking here.

USNA application insight?

Marvin

A little background first: I have 33 ACT composite (33 English, 34 Math, 32 Science, 34 Reading), a 3.9 unweighted, cumulative GPA, I'm a National Honor Society Member, a National Merit Commended Scholar, I got a 5 on the AP Calculus BC test.

So academically speaking, I think I have a pretty good shot, plus I have some extracurricular activities under my belt. Problem is, I did miserably on the Fitness Assessment, and I only have two weeks to take it again. My original scores are: BB Throw, 42 feet; Pullups, 11; Shuttle run, 8.9s; Crunches, 75; Pushups, 27; Mile-Run, 7:51. (I majorly screwed up on the pushups, dropping a knee like a minute in, and the run I was already tired and somewhat disheartened)

Comparatively to the rest of the application, how much weight is placed on the CFA? I can improve my pushup and mile scores just by taking it again this week and not being an idiot, but my other scores aren't exactly great either. Is this going to be a significant blow to the rest of my application?

Answer
Usna, Usma and Usafa currently utilize the CFA. None publish minimums and a Candidate cannot get minimums in each event and pass the CFA. It appears you are below the minimums in the Basketball Throw, the Mile Run and Push Ups. Significantly below in Push Ups. Luckily you are not below in Pull Ups which is the hardest event to significantly increase a score in a short period of time.
The minimums for the USAFA CFT that preceded the CFA are at the link below...
http://i50.tinypic.com/1zbdu2d.jpg
It did not include a mile run or basketball throw but included a 300 yard shuttle run.
Pullups Minimum: 4; Avg: 10 Usafa CFA Mean 11 Your Score 11
Situps Minimum: 49; Avg 69 UsafaCFA Mean 80 Your Score 75
Pushups Minimum: 24; Avg 41 Usafa CFA Mean 60 Your Score 27
Basketball Throw Usafa Mean: 69; Your Score 42 feet
Shuttle Run Usafa Mean: 8.8; Your Score 8.9
One Mile Run Usafa Mean: 6:40; Your Score: 7:51
https://admissions.usafa.edu/RRS/Online_CFA_2013.pdf

Purported USNA CFA Minimum Scores:
BB Throw: 50'; Your Score: 42
Pull Up: 5; Your Score: 11
Shuttle: 11.0s; Your Score 8.9
Push Up: 46; Your Score: 27
Sit Up: 56; Your Score: 75
1MR: 7:45; Your Score: 7:51
http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/showthread.php?t=24029

Conclusion: Probably not using your core muscles in the Basketball Throw. Have a Coach/PE Teacher/Fitness Trainer check your form and give pointers. The deadline for submitting Pre Candidate Questionnaires is Jan 31, so it is not clear why it has to be taken again in two weeks. Have you been offered an LOA and is this a condition of the LOA? Do not take the CFA again this week. Practice and get in shape.
Start this Fitness Program and do extra Pushup Ladders, see page 2:
http://www.usna.edu/PEdept/docs/Prepare%20for%20Plebe%20Summer.pdf
If you have already been running, start at whatever level you are at, but if you are advancing the pace and starting above week 1, be sure to only run on soft surfaces. It takes much longer to build up the joints and ligaments to withstand running on hard surfaces. Make sure you have good running shoes and they are not worn out as this can lead to injury.
See Info on running shoes here:

This is the fitness program you should have started last Spring/Summer:

Besides the CFA, if a Candidate has not participated in athletics, it will have an impact on his chances. Over 90% of service academy Mids/Cadets participated in varsity athletics; over 80% winning varsity letters; over 60% were team Captains and around 25% are recruited athletes.

My boyfriend dresses terribly and I am not attracted anymore?

epsilon_th

I have been dating a wonderful man for almost 2 years. I love everything about him but something is getting in the way. I am 36 and still cute ,he is 42 and in great shape. I hate the way he dresses most of the time. He is stuck in the 80's, He wears Bill Cosby sweaters and stonewashed jeans.Even owns a leather Bugs Bunny jacket!! It makes me want to run and hide. It is embarassing. He has other clothes from Express and even Target that are contemporary and what people wear today. I don't know what to do. It is a hard thing to bring up because do not want to be mean to him, but he never gets my hint. Even when we go shopping together or I suggest cleaning closets. I want to be with him, but this is seriously effecting how attracted to him I am. I sometimes find myself in "friend mode". Please share.. and no offense, but no kids please. I am being serious about this. I would like to hear from those in adult aged relationships. I don't want to break up, but this is driving me away.
Thanks for the answers, there are many that have caused me to think. It is a good relationship...but not too much to ask for him to be a little current. As for him expressing personal style- he has no concept of that. He is functional. He is a guy: he needs to wear pants and a shirt, so he wears pants and a shirt. That's all there is to it. No other thought. I know I sounded snobbish and materialistic, but it is not like that. I have been given a lot to think about and I appreciate all the honest answers. Thanks, everyone. I will take it all to heart, really. It helps to hear from real people on this. Happy Thanksgiving.

Answer
I am 39, my wife is 30. She is young and cute (actress/model) I am older and average. Sounds similar. The hardest thing for me when it came to fashion was listening to her. I, too, was stuck in the 80's (not quite as bad, but still there) when it came to jeans, tshirts, and shoes. She wore me down but did let me know she loved me. She pointed out that most women know what looks good and that fashion changes (where I was not changing). The newer fashions were harder to accept for me (too macho I guess). however, she would point out things she liked and start changing my wardrobe one outfit at a time. Mostly though, she would point out how fashion changes. Just because you love him does not mean you should not rag on his rags. It is not a personal attack, just advice and preferances. He should not take it personally. let him know what you think about how he dresses ... if he does not relent, he has issues. Most men stick with what is comfortable to them, you have to make him comfortable with something new. I have gotten to the point that I can dress myself (LOL!) but I still run things by the wife from haircuts, to clothing combinations.
Get a few GQ and contenmporary magazines and start showing him how fashion is changing. I had a hard time getting into the loose clothing and untucked shirts and such, but now that I am comfortable with change, I have no issues with it.
The big thing is getting him comfortable with change ... it's likely not about his clothing but going with what is comfortable and "safe" for him. Haveing to think about fashion is threatening to many men.
Force him into an outfit you like ... then REALLY let him know you like it ... much like pavlovs dogs, he will come around through conditioning. thats my two cents :)

* Bronze medal winner with team USA basketball at the 2006 FIBA World Championships.
* 2006 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year.

Wade is a devout Christian and chose the number 3 because it represents the Holy Trinity.[49] He tithes 10% of his salary to a church in Chicago.[4] Wade is married to his high school sweetheart Siohvaughn Funches, who was his first and only serious girlfriend. They currently reside in Pinecrest, Florida, and have two sons: Zaire Blessing Dwyane Wade (February 4, 2002) and Zion Malachi Airamis Wade (May 29, 2007).[2][50] The pair were able to maintain their relationship, despite Funches, who is a year older than Wade, leaving to enroll at Eastern Illinois University during Wade's senior year of high school.[2] In February 2002, the couple were married, and at the beginning of Wade's final year of college (Fall 2002), Funches transferred to Marquette.[2]

The Heat's 2005 NBA Playoff run and Wade's performances with Shaquille O'Neal hampered by injury, led to an explosion of media attention and rapid increase in Wade's popularity. During those playoffs, Wade's jersey became the top selling jersey in the league and remained so for nearly two years; he is currently number 2 in sales behind Kobe Bryant.[51] After the Heat's success and Wade's memorable performances during the 2006 NBA Playoffs, Wade was further elevated into the public's eye and has appeared on several talk shows, including Late Show with David Letterman and Live with Regis and Kelly.[52]

Wade has been featured in a number of magazine articles and publications. In 2005, he was featured on People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People,[53] and in 2006 he was named the NBA's best dressed player by GQ Magazine.[54] In 2007, Esquire named him to their 4th annual Best Dressed Men in the World list for the second straight year.[55]

Wade has proven himself a popular endorser and has a number of endorsement deals with companies such as Gatorade, Sean John, T-Mobile, and Topps.[56] He has his own line of shoes with Converse named "The Wade" and T-Mobile released a series of Sidekick phones known as the D-Wade Edition.[57][58] His nicknames include D-Wade and Flash, which was given to him by Shaquille O'Neal who would sing, "He's the greatest in the Universe," in reference to the Queen song of the same name from the 1980 film Flash Gordon.

Need for good running shoes?

Im 250 pounds man and usually run for 1hour but my feet hurt after that, any special running shoes?
need more details, curently running
NewBalance 992

Answer
I'm a heavier set women runner and I used to use the NB 992. They were great when it came to shorter distances but when I started to pass the 3 mile mark, they just started to hurt me. It started with my knees, then my shins and finally my lower back. I couldn't ever make it past 6 w/o kicking them off. I switched to the Asics 2140s. I love them, I just ran a half marathon in them and I would have never been able to do that with the 992s w/o falling apart.

I agree going to a specialty store so they can tell you what shoes you actually need. If you can't get to a store I recommend roadsrunnersports.com, you take a little survey on there and it tells you what shoe works for you. If your still confused you can call them or get the membership and you can run in the shoes for 60 days and return them. I just got it, I love it. It is a little expensive but worth it for me since I can't get to any store like.

Best running shoes for high arches?

Kellyn

I want to run a marathon, but I have high arches and don't want to wear shoes that will hurt me! Any suggestions?

Answer
The Saucony Grid Cohesion NX is a neutral cushioning shoe, good for runners with high arches and those who do not overpronate (feet naturally roll inward). Many consumers give it 5 stars, citing that this shoe is extremely comfortable, with a spacious forefoot that accommodates most widths, though it does come in two widths (for both men and women). Other great features of this running shoe is that it offers good traction, better than average heel cushioning and a breathable upper mesh for cooler feet. Whereas many shoes run $95 and up, this running shoe is more than a budget buy; it is a bargain at almost half that cost.

how do you cure heel spurs without surgery?

Q. i dont want to have surgery because of a heel spur. is their any way of cures without surgery

Answer
Plantar fasciitis (heel spurs) is an excruciatingly painful foot condition caused by the inflammation of the plantar fascia, a broad ligament-like structure that runs along the sole (plantar) of the foot between the toes and the heel bone.

Most people who have plantar fasciitis know they have it and know what it is.

Some doctors compare the pain of heel spurs to the feeling of walking with a pebble in your shoe, just beneath the heel. Ha! Those doctors have never had plantar fasciitis. Those who have will tell you that the pain is far, far worse than that innocuous little analogy suggests. It is so bad, in fact, that it drives many people to submit to horrendously painful corticosteroid shots in their heels, in hope of reducing the pain.

I had a cortisone shot in my right heel the second time I had
plantar fasciitis. I am not a screamer, but let me tell you, that shot caused me to let out a shriek of pain that was heard in the parking lot of the podiatrist's office. It was so painful that I was unable to force myself to undergo the shot in my left heel that was scheduled for two weeks later. Furthermore, though many people do get relief from such shots, for me the shot did no good at all.

Another fairly drastic option for treating plantar fasciitis is surgery to loosen the plantar fascia by making a small cut in it. Certainly this treatment is effective for many people, but few would choose either surgery or those devilish cortisone shots if they had other less invasive treatment options.

Well, there are other treatments that should be tried before turning to surgery. The first time I had plantar fasciitis, I gave up my ten-mile-a-day walks, bought a car (which I had never done before), and abandoned stylish shoes (which are a major culprit in women's foot disorders). I also had a pair of custom-fitted insoles made--for $60--which I put into the Reebok walking shoes that I wore all the time until my heel pain subsided, which it did after about two months. I took aspirin every day to reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

You should, of course, check with your doctor before using any over-the-counter NSAIDS (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like aspirin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or naproxen. But if your doctor approves such medication for you, and if you use it carefully (NSAIDS can be dangerous if improperly used), then such drugs do help to relieve the pain and inflammation of plantar fasciitis.

A few years after my first bout of plantar fasciitis, the condition flared up again, and this time it was even worse than the first time. I had not gone back to wearing high heels, but I had occasionally worn attractive flats that did not provide sufficient support for my unusually high arches--and I had sometimes walked distances in them, since I no longer had a car.

I need more arch support than most, but everyone should make sure that the shoes they wear offer good arch support, because most cases of plantar fasciitis could be prevented if only people would take better care of their arches.

This time the pain was so crippling that I ended up having to use a cane for over a year. (My son complained that I was getting old. I told him to think of it instead as an athletic injury--I walked so much that I damaged my feet.) Because I had to stay off my feet as much as possible, I became virtually housebound, not a situation I relish.

It was the severity of this bout of plantar fasciitis that drove me to subject myself to that dreadful cortisone shot. Because that shot didn't help, the podiatrist was recommending surgery. But I kept putting it off, even as I began to implement a couple of other suggestions she had tossed out.

First, I switched to New Balance walking shoes. For some reason, the New Balance brand provides better arch support for
plantar fasciitis sufferers, and podiatrists routinely recommend that their plantar fasciitis patients wear New Balance. For dressier occasions, I wear "grandma" shoes--fairly wide, well-constructed black or tan shoes with really good arch supports. (The brand I like is S.A.S. )

Admittedly, these shoes aren't pretty. I now wear slacks or calf-length skirts, because my granny shoes don't work well with shorter skirts and dresses. One other thing I did--and I believe this is what made the most immediate and dramatic difference in my condition--was to wear those pre-formed Futuro elastic ankle braces that you can buy for five or six dollars in any supermarket or drugstore. They are way cheaper than the custom-fitted insoles I purchased for $60 dollars the first time I had heel spurs, and since I didn't end up having to buy a car, treatment was much less expensive the second time around.

I never wore skirts while wearing the ankle braces, but I only had to wear them for five weeks before the pain in my heels faded away altogether, though I continued to wear them for another two weeks, just to be sure all was well. Those braces pull up and support the arches from below the foot, providing even better support than my custom-fitted insoles had.

I never went back to wearing pretty shoes without arch supports, except for those infrequent occasions when I need to dress up, but I know I will not be walking or standing around.

It has now been three years since that last bout of plantar
fasciitis. A couple of times since then, after I have walked long distances on hard surfaces (e.g., sidewalks or roads), I have felt the familiar twinge of heel pain. But whenever that happens, I just wear my braces again for a couple of weeks, and the pain goes away. In fact, sometimes I will wear my braces even when I don't have heel pain, if I know that I am going to walk a lot more than usual, and that prevents me from getting even the beginnings of heel pain.

If you suffer from plantar fasciitis, try changing to appropriate shoes, use NSAIDS if the doctor approves them for you, and start wearing ankle braces. The braces should be snug enough to provide good support, but not tight enough to impede circulation. (Those of us who are no longer young need to be careful about protecting the circulation in our feet.)

You may well discover that your heel pain goes away within a few weeks, and that you don't have to have surgery after all.

Even more important, you won't have to have one of those nightmarish cortisone shots!

hope my ans suits u..if let me know

What is someone that designs athletic sneakers called?

coolkid

What is the job that requires to design sports sneakers, cleats and stuff?

And sorry- I couldn't figure out what would be the best category for this question.

Answer
They could be called Athletic Shoes Designers or Sneakers Designers. Here is a brief discussion:

The origins of the sneaker reside in rubber soled shoes in the late nineteenth century. Profitable lines such as Keds, Converse, Puma, and Nike revolutionized athletics and comfort wear over the next century. Soon, sports stars began to lend their names and images to corporate shoes. This created entire lines of clothing and fashion, spiking sales and giving way to an entire subculture.

History
1. Rubber soled shoes were first called plimsolls. The major defect in the shoes were their size and lack of distinguishing between a right and left foot, making them relatively uncomfortable. Finally, in 1892, Goodyear begins to mass produce a rubber soled shoe called Keds. The advertising for the brand called them sneakers. The title came from the fact that someone could "sneak up on someone" while wearing them.

A revolution in specialization occurred in 1917 when a company called Converse introduced a canvas and rubber shoe geared towards basketball. The All-Star sported ankle support as the canvas would go higher up the leg than a normal shoe, creating the high top.
Features
2. 1920 saw the formation of Adidas by Adi Dassler in his mother's washroom. The company eventually released the first tennis shoe in 1931, creating a fad that continued for the next twenty years. Puma moved towards the idea of supplying entire sports teams with shoes in 1948. The company supplied the West German football team with shoes, highlighting their brand name in the Olympics.

1950 ushered in a decade that introduced the youth as a buying power in the United States. The image of rebellion provided by pop stars like James Dean helped to spur sales of sneakers to new heights. Wide varieties and styles of sneakers became available. With the support of sports stars, new technologies burst onto the scene.
Function
3. Throughout the remainder of the twentieth century, an emphasis on technology became the focus of companies. In 1968, a company called Nike, named after the Greek Goddess of Victory, began to market new designs and technologies. It developed the waffle sole. This created additional grip and traction for athletes. In 1979, Nike made the largest advancement in athletic shoes since their early inception. With the Nike Air, the company revolutionized cushioning by adding a pocket of air in the heel of the shoe. This resulted in added padding for athletes, aiding the safe and comfortable utilization of sneakers for an active lifestyle.
Types
4. Many styles and types of sneakers are available from a variety of companies. Amongst these are the overall athletic shoe and the modern, redesigned cleat. Racing and track shoes were developed for Olympic athletes to better enhance their abilities. Track shoes generally implement a rubber based bottom while adding small spikes for better grip. Some of the most popular sneakers are those designed for basketball. These can range in styles, but they usually offer ankle support and utilize the air technology developed by Nike.
Considerations
5. Sneaker companies have used popular sports stars in their advertising and marketing of shoes since almost their inception. The Chuck Taylor All-Star is one of the oldest and most profitable pair of sneakers. Released in 1923, it has sold more than 744 million pairs and maintained its popularity for decades. Converse's Jack Purcell tennis shoe spiked sales, and Joe Namath's Super Bowl III victory with Pumas added more attention to that company.

In 1985, Nike introduced perhaps the most successful line of shoes ever with the Air Jordan. Utilizing the success of Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan, the line has continued to be one of the fastest selling in the industry. Beyond the shoes themselves, Nike was able to move the iconic image into other merchandise, redeveloping the sneaker into an entire sports clothing line.

Best Running Shoes for Women?

annablue

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on a good woman's' running shoe. I used to jog a lot but for the past several years have had different problems with my knees, as well as having an operation on my foot around 6 years ago, and to top it off, I have a very bad case of calcific tendinitis in my rotator cuff, which I don't want to aggravate, either. My dr. had told me not to jog anymore, so I spent last summer doing a lot of walking, etc., instead. I still miss jogging though, and he has told me if I really want to jog then I should do it on a track of some sort instead of just on the sidewalk. Anyway, I have a couple of pairs of sneakers, I believe that they are both Rykas; the last pair I bought I went a half size up at the suggestion of the salesperson; apparently they run a bit small. I have liked them fine until all the walking I did in them last summer, but now I'm not sure that they are the best shoe for me. Disgustingly enough I have developed some toenail fungus which I am trying very hard to get rid of; having read the different things that can cause this I learned the shoes that don't fit properly are one culprit. These shoes do seem to make me toes hurt a little, especially the little toes, yet they aren't too small, any larger and they would be too big.
I'm just basically hoping someone who has joint problems like I do may be able to direct me towards a line of shoes that can be used for anything from walking/hiking, biking, and jogging, with the least amount of joint damage. Thanks in advance for any help!

What are the best-looking running shoes you can wear with jeans?

jamie68117

I want to buy some shoes that are good for running. Currently I have converse shoes, with probably aren't the best on my feet when I run. I want cute women's running shoes that LOOK GOOD WITH JEANS. So many running shoes just look ridiculous with jeans...

Are there any that look cute with jeans?!
My neighborhood friend and I hang out outside a lot, just running around with my dog, and hanging out. We always end up running, so I want some good shoes for it...
I just can't justify spending the money on running shoes if they don't look good with jeans, cuz I don't want them JUST for running.

Answer

women running/tennis shoes?

Suz

i need a good pair that i can wear on my daily jog, but it also needs to work for when i'm playing tennis. they need to be comfy. i don't want anything past 80 dollars. any brand/look is fine, but i love shoes that have a slimer look.

Answer
go to a running shoe store, or just a shoe store, and try on as many pairs of shoes as you can. when looking for a shoe you want these things in order from most to least important; fit, support, comfortable, look good.
lets start with fit: there should be no more then 2 cm room in the front where your toes are and no less then about .75cm. you can tell if it is too tight just by walking around in the shoes.
support: look at the heel in the back, if it is very low then there isn't proper support, making you prone to overuse injuries and tiring you out more easily. also see if there are air holes in the front for breathing room. if there are hardly any then your feet will get all sweaty and shoes will stink.
comfortability: well you will be able to tell if the shoe is comfortable or not.
looking good: if you are stuck in between a few pairs of shoes and can't decide because they meet all of the above criteria, then pick the ones that look the best. like if you have many clothes that are a color you might want to pick a similar shoe color to match.

now remember everyone's feet are different sizes (wide, narrow long short.......) and people all have different opinions on what shoes to buy. that is why you must decide for yourself the shoe that is right for you. after you find the perfect shoe i highly suggest you buy it online on ebay or eastbay, unless that is you are made out of money, and dont care for spending an extra 30-60 dollars. all running shoes will be good for tennis. good luck with buying a shoe and i hope this helps

Running shoes?

Q. I have been jugging a lot lately, and my knees hurt, do you recommend a good brand of running shoes that will make it easier on the knees and ankles?

Answer
Running shoes are designed to absorb shock while you run. You may want to try the Adidas Megabounce + or the Nike Shox.

The pain or discomfort you are currently experiencing may not be solely indicative of a poor quality running shoe, but rather a more serious condition that would require medical attention. I would recommend you consult your physician to help determine the true cause of your discomfort.

Good luck!

what is the difference between running shoes and volleyball shoes?

nastassja

Answer
Running shoes are designed **only** for moving "forward", but volleyball shoes are designed to move in all directions, with much better lateral tracking and support, and can help you change direction within spit of a second.

Volleyball shoes are much lighter, can provide extra protection to you toes. If after two three hours of playing you feel sore in your toes, you know you would need a pair of volleyball shoes.

To make them lighter in weight, most volleyball shoes are made specifically for indoor play. They might have open vent under the arc, the sole, and/or at some other spots (if you can find a pair of volleyball shoes at your local store, remove the padding and you can see through from the bottom). Walking outside would also collect dirt into the out sole and affect tracking.
Make sure you don't wear them outside of the gym.

Have fun playing volleyball.
