I am 34, have a slightly bad knee that has yet to be checked and I weigh a bit over 250 lbs. I want a good shoe for cushioning as well as minor stability. I don't do excessive distance, usually less than 3 miles but my knee can act up at times. (it swells for a few days) Not looking for medical advice just shoes please. Thanks.

Do you have flat feet/fallen arches man? or wide feet? I do, and I am into New Balance, for my money and for the shoe itself, I dont think Adidas or Nike compares.
Nikes tend to be a very narrow shoe.

Lot of factors to consider.
Is he going to actually run in them or is he looking for a fashion statement? His running style & his build. If you have an old pair of his running shoes try to check the bottom for how it is worn - if he used them a lot for walking also this may not show what you need to know. See if he is a heavy heel striker or runs on his toes more, check for if the wear is centered or say running from the rear outer edge to the front inner edge (this will indicate that he pronates, opposite of suppinatation). Basics- majority of shock absorption needs to go where he lands but too much can lead to instability, Different mid-sole designs especially in the transition area from the arch to the heel can help even out suppination/pronation. Heavier people need a firmer mid-sole that is not going to roll on them.
Easiest - bring a pair of his old shoes into a dedicated running/tri store, ask a salesperson to give you some ideas on what you are looking for.

I'm looking for a pair of inexpensive shoes for a 10 miles mud run. The shoes are 100% going to be getting soaking wet (swimming with them) and covered in mud. They have to be able to last 4 months training before the event.

Get some good Trail Running shoes. Brooks, Asics, and Reebok all make a good trail running shoe. It will be worth the investment.

Help.. Urgent.. Hiking Shoes/Boots?

Hi all,

I am planning do four hikes of varying difficulty in the next 12 months.


I need a sturdy pair of shoes as I am pretty sure my Nike Air running shoes won't make the cut.

I have done some research and found the following things to be important:
- Gore Tex
- Ankle Support
- Great traction

Could you please tell me if there if Vibram soles are a must. I have looked at reviews for the following shoes and I am getting mixed opinions. Some say go for light-weight, some for ankle support, some for fast draining, etc.

These are the three shoes which seem like they could make the cut. Could you help me decide please? or even better, tell me all of these are rubbish and suggest some other ones?

2. La Sportiva Crossleather
3. Scarpa Terra GTX

My budget is around 100 quid.

Hi, welcome to UK again. Most answerers on here are American....they get bucks to spend not quids.
For those hikes you need hiking boots, not shoes. You need comfort, fit, ankle support and protection, the right blend of flexibility and stiffness, waterproofness, reasonably light weight, warmth, ventilation, grip with Vibram-style soles, good lacing system, good geometry to get a balanced stature while walking, internal shaping that suits your own foot arches and toe length and width of foot and heel protrusion, anti-pronation design, good construction with well-fitted panels and proper stitching, and all for a good price.
Not asking much is it? Still want it though, so that's what to go for.
Two names are legendary in the mountaineering and hiking world for boots....Scarpa and Meindl.
Go to the Himalaya and count the Scarpas and Meindls compared to other boots on Everest, Annapurna, K2,etc........
However, what is best is what suits your own feet and your budget, and the two big names have more than one big rival.
In UK Chris Brasher, a well known sportsman, started a boot company to take on the German, Austrian and Italian makers who then dominated the boot market.
Brasher boots are a standard now for British buyers and have built up a good reputation for quality against price.
Goretex has a rival too...Event linings are used on many boots and trail shoes and are favoured by some over Goretex.
La Sportiva makes excellent climbing shoes for rock climbing, and some good trainers and hiking boots.
Merrell isn't really the same stuff. OK and they won't fall to bits for at least sixty miles if you're lucky but it isn't a popular company amongst experienced walkers and climbers, who want real stuff instead.
Merrell do some good trainers and other sporting footwear but for hiking and climbing.....nah, I wouldn't want to be seen with those on just as I wouldn't want to be seen with Timberland boots on either.
For trainers, yeah....OK-ish, but only if I can't find anything else.
Merrell wants a street presence, like Timberland and Nike. It makes more money that way. Not the same class of player as the ones who make boots for a proper clientele rather than for those wanting to wear a fashionable name.
Forget Merrell....keep some 'street cred' of the hiking sort.

Of the three the Scarpa Terra GTX is the tops by far.
Whether it's right for you only you can tell, by trying them on with the same sock arrangement used for hiking....a pair of thin cotton socks with thick woolen socks over them which are turned down over the boot to keep grit out.
There are cheaper options which also won't fall to bits. I go mountain running in cheap Eurohike trail shoes, which are more like shoe-shaped walking boots rather than just shoes and are light but hard wearing....£38 from Millets....and they are years old now, still going good.
Karrimor do good boots, which can often be bought at sale prices. My Karrimor boots are great, for £45, knocked down from £80, again in Millets. Go well on our wet peaty heather-clad moors and rocky coastline and I climb the cliffs in them too.
My new Brasher Hillmaster's were £65, reduced from £98, bought while cheap and waiting for my others to wear out. Could be years yet.

I have a really high arch. I have been running for about 3 weeks. I have been running with Nike Shocks. Since then my knees have been hurting. Does anyone recomend a light weight supportive shoe for someone with a high arch?

Aside from any personal athletic equipment you'll need, your list will be the same as any other student. Sometime in the spring or summer, your school will probably send you a list of suggested items to bring, as well as what NOT to bring (some schools don't allow certain items in the dorms). And once you find out your roommate, you can discuss who is going to bring what (you'll only need one refrigerator, TV, etc). But for starters, here are some things that most college students bring to school:

I'm looking to get back into running. The last time I gave it up was because I couldn't seem to find a shoe that was comfortable enough. I'm not a huge fan of those shoes that say they lower impact, based on looks alone, but if many people find them great for running I would consider. Thank You!

Asking if there is a best shoe is like asking if there is a best car or bra, it depends on the individual needs. If one shoe was better all the other shoe company's would go out of business.

Go in to a running shoe store and say you want running shoes, period. They would have you run in a shoe to see how you run, which would indicate what type of shoe you need, a stabilization shoe, underpronation or overpronation, etc. Once they have an idea of what you need they should pull out several models and have you try them for comfort, have you put both pairs on and jog around the store to see which you like best. They should be half a size to a full size larger than your street shoes. And thatâs it! If you go to a shoe store and they don't ask to see you run first thing to get an idea of your needs, find another store. Good luck!

What causes shin splints and what is the best way to treat them? How can I avoid them in the future?

I have started running again recently and now have shin splints so bad I can hardly walk. I am a 39 year old woman in fairly good physical shape, I work out regularly, not over weight and I have no physical problems short of the shin splints.. I walk on the tread mill and eliptical regularly with out much problem. The problem didn't start until I started running out side. I run on a concrete bridge with a slight grade (incase that makes a difference).
Thank you all for the fantastic answers! With that information I am able to determine that the fact that I am flat footed has a big impact. The shoes were fitted but my arch was not taken into account. I guess I need to go shopping again. :-)

Shin splints are most commonly caused by overpronation (foot roles in too much at the toe off phase of your gait/running motion). A neutral foot lands on the outside corner of your heel, roles inwards so that it is flat and then roles out on the angle of your toes at toe off. An overpronated foot lands on the outside of the heel, roles in flat but continues to roll in and comes off even with or inside the big toe side of the shoe. The reason this is a problem is that the muscle that is supposed to role you out at toe off (tibialis anterior muscle) is not strong enough to counter the weight of your body that has rolled your foot inwards too far. It continues to pull until it actually pulls itself off the bone where it attaches (this is what shinsplints are - shin splints are not a muscle fibre strain you are actually tearing muscle from the bone which is why it hurts so much and takes so long to heal). The reason why you didn't feel it before is because under less load (walking = less downward force and elliptical = no downward force) your body wasn't thrown into am overpronated position. Now that your are running the repetition of the overpronated state is resulting in shin splints.
To get rid of the shin splints you must first rest the muscle, ice wil help with the inflamation and pain. Next you need to get a really good pair of shoes designed to work with YOUR body. Just going and spending a lot of money will not gaurantee a good pair for you. It would be like buying a Ferarri for off roading - it's a great car but not for what you need. Look for a shoe that is designed for motion control. These styles have a very wide sole through the arch, are stiff if you try to "wring it out", have a very hard "heel counter" and have some type of a "medial post" (usually a dark grey foam of higher density running along the arch sie of the foot). If you aren't comfortable with these terms then go to your local running store and ask them. If they don't know these terms then walk away - they are not trained enough to assist you. A couple of models/brands that do produce some very good shoes for overpronators (motion control shoes) are Asics (gel 2100 series), Saucony (grid stable as one example) and New Balance. Do some research on their websites and they will have pictures to describe what I've talked about.

The best shoe for you depends so much on fit. One runner with a wide foot and a shallow arch will have a totally different opinion from a narrow footed deep arched runner. Everyone is different. There are hundreds of shoes and what works best for me may not work best for you.

Some running stores have experts with whom you can make an appointment. They measure your foot to determine itâs size, your arch, and if you over-pronate or not. They ask you about your running and needs to determine which particular shoes might best meet your needs. Then they let you try them all on and run with them on their treadmills. Usually they have a decent return policy, too.

Keep track of your running and buy new shoes every 400 miles or when they look worn out.

I'm not sure what's wrong with my feet, but I have a couple of problems with them.

When I run a long distance, they start to hurt. Even if I jump rope for 20 minutes, they start to hurt. My coach says that its because I have flat feet, and I think she may be right.

No they don't. Sketchers do however sell extra wide width in certain styles. Just pick up the shoe and look for the letters EW on the sole. Stay away from New Balance tho...they are poorly made and run way more narrow then average shoes.

What causes a foot to feel like you are walking on pebbles in your shoe?

This feeling is in the area from the ball of the foot to the toes, and across the entire foot side to side. Is there any way to cure this? Suggestions?

It could be Mortons Neuroma or Metatarsalgia. There are nerves running through your foot that can get inflammation from a variety of things. The main one being shoes with little or no arch support.
You could try a shoe with a better arch support and see if that helps. Or try a drugstore for finding some metatarsal pads to insert in your shoe. In the meantime, don't wear high heels if you are a women or shoes with a narrow toe.
Try icing the area 15 minutes a day, several times a day. If you can, take Advil or Motrin to help with the pain as well as decrease inflammation in the area. If all else fails, schedule an appointment with your doctor. If this has been going on for a long time or you don't feel relief in the next few days, make an appointment. Since nerves are involved, it would be best to seek medical advice if it continues past a few days or is so painful you can't walk.

This is the first time I am buying any kind of specialist trainers or running shoes for my flat feet. I still have a little bit of an arch.

I am looking to exercise and go running in these trainers/running shoes so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on the best ones that Nike offer.

Right now, I am thinking Nike Air Max Trainer Excel or the Nike Air Relentless II Ladies Running Shoes. Please help!

I'm wide and flat footed, and have never had a pair of running shoes that quite catered to that. It seems like no matter what kind of shoe I get, it still inhibits my running; slows me down or makes my feet hurt, etc. Does anyone have any advice on what kind of shoes to get?

I also have flat feet (though they are narrows, not wides) but I have really bad shin splints since I have "fallen arches". My doctor told me to get Asics since they have overall good support, are comfortable, and have more give in the sole, whereas say, Nikes don't really have a softer sole. The softer sole is easier on your feet and on your shins. What I do since I have really bad feet is I'll throw in some Dr. Scholl's arch supports for a little extra support. I've also seen newer shoes that look like feet- those are supposed to be really good for your feet! I've learned that running barefoot can help strengthen your foot also, and those "foot" shoes are more or less protectors for your feet so you can get the barefoot feel without stabbing a bunch of pebbles or sticks into your foot. Unfortunately, those are really expensive. I've never seen them for under $100. The Asics I own, however, I got for about $60 at Dunham's. Those two would be my pick.

I wouldn't be using the horse for show or anything like that. Just for riding and a great companion. I've had a love for horses all my life, and it may be a few years yet before I can afford the space and property needed. I live in Ontario Canada. Thanks for all answers! :)

Some of the costs associated with keeping a horse are highly specific for location. As an example, in the specific area of Southern California where I live, a box stall with full board (i.e., feed and bedding provided, and someone else feeds the horses and mucks out the stalls) is running about $450-$600/month, depending on the amenities of the stable (i.e., access to riding rings, trails, turn-out pens, hot walkers, wash stalls, equipment like jumps, caveletti, etc., and amenities for boarders like individual tack rooms and so forth). Board for a horse in a neighborhood 60 miles down the freeway from here runs more like $300-450, tops. If I go even a bit farther out, maybe 150 miles away, I can find board situations for around $250/month.

If you want to figure what board costs are in your area, you have to call the local stables. You also need to decide what level of board you are willing to accept. Do you need a full board situation where someone else does all the feeding and cleaning for you? Or are you going to do your own feeding and cleaning? Do you want a box stall in a showplace stable or will you accept a pen with a shelter in one corner for your horse to get out of rain? Do you need a place with riding rings for schooling, or just access to open country for trail riding? Do you want amenities like a lounge with a TV and vending machines with cold soft drinks, bathrooms with hot and cold water that are cleaned daily, or can you live with a few lawn chairs under a tree and a port-a-potty that nobody seems to clean and you may have to bring your own toilet paper?

Ditto with shoeing costs. In my neck of the woods, we have one shoer who has the business pretty much to himself. He charges $95-125 for a straight cold shoeing and trim, nothing special. Out 60 miles away where my friend boards her horses, there are several shoers in competition and the same shoeing costs $60-75. And out further in the rural areas, $50-55 for the same job.

Vet fees are somewhat less variable, in my experience, although there is some fluctuation based on area. It's my experience, and this tracks with pretty much everyone that I know of who has horses, that it's a good idea to budget a minimum of $500/year for preventive care and routine calls. You might not spend that much, but it depends. If your horse needs bute regularly and banamine occasionally, or is an older horse, or has funky teeth and needs a lot of dental preventive maintenance, you'll probably run almost up to the $500/year and maybe go beyond it.

Additionally, it's a good idea to have a reserve fund for vet emergencies. I budgeted $5000 for my reserve fund and in thirty years of horse ownership had to tap into it for several thousand dollars twice-- once when my horse got pneumonia and again at the end of my horse's life when things started going wrong. I don't mean that you necessarily have to have $5000 sitting around in a bank account or piggy bank, but you should have access to that sum of money without having to worry about feeding your family or paying the rent if you need to tap into it. A credit card with a $5000 limit or a family member who will loan it to you or some other source can work, but the point is you HAVE to be able to get the money if you need it. Horse emergencies do not come cheap.

There are other costs associated with horses that you have to consider. If you don't have a van or trailer yourself, you may have to pay transport costs if your horse needs to be moved for any reason. There are "consumables" like fly spray, hoof dressing, shampoo, saddle soap, and other things you use on a horse that nickel and dime you all the time. If you have to drive to where you board your horse, there's the cost of gas. And of course if you intend to take lessons or have your horse in training, there are the costs associated with that.

It isn't cheap to own a horse, but if you can manage the costs, IMO there aren't many better ways to spend money on your leisure time.

How do I get in shape before track starts?

Q. I signed up for track, and it starts in a few weeks. I want to be prepared and ready for all the running and exercising. What do I do?

You are smart to start now, especially if you are not currently participating in a winter sport at your school or in any other type of regular, strenuous exercise program. By starting early you will get a jump on the competition for slots on your team. You also are allowing plenty of time to lay down a 'base of conditioning' on which to gradually improve. Gradual increases in workout intensity are less likely to cause injuries of all types and less likely to cause you to burn out mentally, too. In some events like the 1600 or 3200 meter (1 or 2 mile) race you can improve your time race after race due to your increased level of fitness and then run out of time at the end of the season and never be sure how fast your fastest time can be. That can be frustrating, I know.

Talk to the coach. Ask him about the requirement for you to have a sports physical. Your regular doctor can do this physical. Or your school might even pay for the checkup. You will need this before you can start officially practicing with the team anyway so you might as well be safe and get it done before you start your own pre-season private workouts. You really want to know your family's medical history including heart health issues before you start getting ready for competition -- better safe than sorry!

Ask the coach for handouts of sample workouts and his calisthenics / warm up / stretching exercise routines. Ask around to see if you can't find a returning veteran of the team or even a rival team or a college track/cross-country team to show you the proper way to do the warm up. Ask if the returning veterans on your school's team are organizing their own informal group runs. Training in a group is safer for the runner and can be an enjoyable chance to socialize.

Buy some decent running shoes. Ask for recommendations for a well-stocked sporting goods or running store. Your coach might have some coupons. Wear your most comfortable old athletic shoes to the store to show the clerk the wear pattern on the tread. Let the sales help have you try on several different brands and styles. Don't be lazy: lace both shoes up all the way, tie them snugly, get up on your feet, off the carpet and on to a hard surface and walk in the shoes, jump in the them, run a few steps in them. Don't be shy; it's your money. Make sure the running shoe fits both feet well. Your goal is to get such a good fit that there is no 'break-in period' and that the shoes do not rub you raw or give you callouses or blisters. Running shoes, in my opinion, are the most comfortable shoes made. My guess is that you will still not regret spending $50 to $75 dollars for your first good pair of running shoes - even if you wind up quitting the track team and never run a yard in them. They're that good!

Use all cross-training opportunities at your disposal: walk, hike, downhill or cross-country ski, snowshoe, walk or run stairs (don't run down stairs, though) step aerobics, dance, yoga, martial arts, treadmill, stationary bicycle, circuit training, free weights, swimming -- whatever you can do comfortably to raise a sweat, condition your heart, lungs, bones, joints and muscles. Don't ignore your upper body or your mid-section. After all, you might be a sprinter, a jumper, a hurdler, or a pole-vaulter waiting to be discovered. In any case, your core/abdominal strength is key to all motion.

If you live in a cold part of the country be aware of cold weather running issues: acclimate to cold weather gradually not all at once, dress in layers and use them to prevent either frostbite or soaking yourself in sweat, be visible to cars, run against the wind on the way out and with the wind on the way home so as to find out that you are under dressed sooner while you are still close to home rather than later when you are far from home.

Whatever climate you are running in make sure you give your body the water it needs. If you are making the transition from couch potato to athlete for the first time I bet you will be amazed at how much water you will need to consume. Increased calorie consumption, increased outdoor activity, central heat and central air conditioning all drain moisture from you. You may never look at water fountains the same way again.

One last suggestion: borrow a couple of issues of running magazines from you local public library and get in step that way.

I just started a new job as a dietary aide and I am on my feet for 8 hours or longer. I have to wear leather, preferably athletic type shoes. Crocs are not aloud, which is what I constantly wore before. I am thinking about the Nike Shox...anyone know about these? I recently began running again, I stopped for a little over a year during my pregnancy and the first 7 months after my daughter was born. Now when I run, during the first mile my left ankle hurts and the smallest two toes on my left foot go numb. The numbness goes away during my run and the pain leaves my ankle. I have not changed my type of shoes so I am unsure what could be causing this.... can it be from not tying your shoes tight enough?

I am 19 weeks tomorrow and i know that im far from giving birth, but due to all these horrendous stories ive heard about women pooping during birth. I know its natural and all. But i don't want to have to smell my own crap while im giving birth. So how can i prevent pooping during birth. Other than having an enema done, a natural way of cleansing my bowels before i give birth?

People are gonna send you links to health sites probably. I'm gonna tell you the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth!
This is your first pregnancy (trust me, it's obvious) and you are focusing on all the wrong things!
I've given birth twice, and I couldn't tell you if I pooped or not during the birth. I'm a nurse, and I've seen enough babies born to know that I did. Everybody does! But you won't feel it, you won't smell it, and you won't notice the nurses wiping it away. There is too much other stuff going on. By the time you are working to push that baby out you won't care what the H3LL else comes out with it!
Now, in response to anybody foolish enough the recommend a bowel cleansing regimen to a pregnant woman about to give birth, let me warn you what can happen to your baby. Bowel cleansing means diarrhea. Diarrhea means dehydration. An IV will be inserted as standard of practice when you are admitted to deliver. It is much harder to start an IV in a dehydrated person than one with full veins. You'll deal with more pain from the needle sticks to try to get the IV going.
Your baby could also be dehydrated, and what if there are complications as a result? You want a healthy start for your child, right?
And the fun part? Since you are dehydrated they will run fluids IV, and since your bowel is irritated by the cleansing regime it will pull fluids and continue flushing itself. So, do you want to squeeze out a little bit of poop, which is normal during childbirth, or do you want to squirt fluid diarrhea with every push? Nurses are used to poop and won't even notice. NOBODY wants your fluid bowels washing over their hands and shoes!
Relax. Focus more on the birth and prepare yourself for it. There's a lot you can be doing to prepare your body and mind for childbirth right now. Worrying about a little poop is not one of them!

The best answer to this totally depends on your running gait. You need to know if you pronate, underpronate/suppinate or are a neutral runner before buying shoes. If you don't know go to a running store and ask them to analyse your tread - the good shops will have a machine to do this and will not charge you. Listen to advice from a shop assistant who runs and is trained in the shoe models (not a weekend fill-in!). Visit somewhere like www.runnersworld.co.uk and read reviews on shoes that meet your needs. Try a few pairs on to see how they fit around your toes and heel before buying any. Taking this well-researched path will reduce any chance of injury to your legs/hips/back by running in the wrong shoes. Best of luck!

ever since I got kicked out of my girlfriends house, I've lost motivation to workout. I dropped 10 pounds within the entire month Of January. throught out February, I didn't workout out at all. I tried to but I didn't see a point because I had come to realize that I have no friends and I'm losing everything bit by bit. I want to gain the confidence and motivation to be able to get out and run again. I want my girlfriend to be pleased with me. I want to be happy again.


one thing that gets in the way is that ever since I've moved back home, there are sweets EVERYWHERE. another would be that my asthma has started acting up once again. and one last thing would be that I desperately need running shoes because before I was running in my Keds and they aren't very supportive, so my knees and ankles would hurt all the time and my knees are already weak; I just want to know if there are any super amazing, cheap-ish, supportive running shoes?

Ask your fam to hide or lock up the sweets; you don't need that.

A good diet/exercise plan would be:

Breakfast: Cook 9-grain cereal (from health food store) in water with rolled oats and wheat bran. Make a big pot of it on weekends and scoop out a cup each morning. Add low fat milk, nuts and berries. Drink hot Ovaltine. Breakfast should be your largest meal of the day to raise blood sugar level which falls during the night.

Lunch: Egg, tuna or turkey sandwich on whole grain bread with bean or alfalfa sprouts and yogurt w/fruit. If you had meat loaf for dinner, bring a meat loaf sandwich on whole grain bread (NO mayo). On cold days, a squatty thermos of hot chili, split peas with ham, or beef stew.

Snacks: Fresh (not canned) fruit: banana, orange, apple, kiwi, grapes, peach, nectarine, cherries, pineapple. No chips and nothing ever from a vending machine.

Dinner: salad with white meat chicken and fresh (not canned) veggies: tomatoes, 2 kinds of lettuce, 2 kinds of shredded cabbage, shredded or sliced carrots, alfalfa or bean sprouts, zucchini, hard boiled eggs, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, tofu, cottage cheese...Instead of dressing, squeeze 1/4 tomato over it.

Or homemade bean/vegetable soups; great way to recycle leftovers.
Or grilled fish with steamed veggies.

Or omelet: In blender, whip together eggs, tofu, cottage cheese, onions, garlic powder. Cook with mushrooms, chopped tomatoes and green or red peppers.

Foods to avoid: junk food, pastries, desserts, sugar, salty foods, syrup (even canned fruit in syrup), peanut butter, fatty/greasy foods (pork, wieners, chops, bacon, salami, pizza), pasta, potatoes, white bread, rice, canned veggies, ice cream, fast food, soda, chips. And of course no tobacco or alcohol in any form. Both of those add wrinkles and destroy your brain. No oil except olive and mac nut. Coffee also rots your brain.

To keep your skin clear, drink water. Veg. juice is good too. But not canned juice (too much sugar.)

Join a gym; they have all the equipment and staff to show you how to use it to get the look you want to achieve. Much cheaper than buying your own equipment. Go hiking, biking, jogging, bowling, swimming...play tennis, badminton, volleyball, soccer..

If you lack energy to exercise, take Super B complex.
To lose weight, try an appetite suppressant.

Do I need skateboarding shoes if I'm not doing tricks?

I would get a pair of skate shoes because it will be a lot more comfortable than running shoes. Skate shoes don't have an arc on the bottom like running shoes do, so with skate shoes you will have a lot more control. Try looking at some Vans, DC's, emericas, etc.

1. For this mess with university to sort itself out. (I want to drop out, get a job, take acting courses to get into an agency etc but it's more like how do I tell my Mum, I'm 18 so it's my decision but well you know how parents can be)

2. An iPhone - my phone is old (probably about 6 years and been through my aunt and my older brother) I'd like an iPhone so I can store my music on there and use it as a phone. It's not so much to carry around so I think it'd be more practical.

3. To go see TED. I really want to see that movie but my cousin and I went to see Brave on Monday (twas awesome) and my bestie went to see it on a date. Maybe I'll convince my brother to see it with me, it's his kind of movie.

4. My license. Yes I'm 18 and I don't even have my learner's permit. When I was younger I just wasn't interested - yeah I regret it. I don't necessarily want a car (but a decent job so I can save would be nice) but maybe just my permit so I can start

5. An eyebrow wax and eyelash tint. My eyebrows tend to grow out of shape and I don't tend to pluck (what can I say? I'm a wuss) so getting that done will work a treat not to mention that it's nice to do something for yourself at times even if it is getting things ripped off your eyebrows.

6. Cream from my doctor to fix my breakouts. My mother says I should wait for it to heal because it's normal and I need patience (and other stuff I forget) but I'm pretty sure one breakout should heal after about 7 months right? So yeah cream or whatnot to clear up my skin or the diagnosis/tests if there's an underlying problem causing it other than just being a teenager.

7. A gym membership. I work out at home but I only really have a treadmill and some yoga so I thought to give myself variety and tone up a gym membership would be nice.

8. A parrot which says: "Help me I'm not really a parrot!" or "Dead men tell no tales". It's name would be Taco.

9. Jumpers (sweaters) - It's winter here in Australia and getting cold. I don't have much really warm stuff because they've become worn out so I need a few winter clothes to keep me warm.

10. New running shoes - the ones I use for my workouts are wearing out and causing me nasty blisters which is no fun at all.

a lot of guys on here are always asking about different underwear and it all sounds to me like a bunch of rubbish. so I ask, why do guys wear boxers to be socially accepted?

I always assumed that guys ask about underwear because they want to know what's considered "cooler" at the moment. Most guys 'these days' wear the boxer~brief
= the longer version of a brief.

That's for comfort, plus they don't bunch up under clothing like regular boxers would. (I always thought) That's why the guys I know wear them anyway (adult men). Boxer~briefs stay smooth under jeans and pants..and since some traditional boxers are made out of cotton flannel..that seems like it would get hot. Flannel pajamas can get hot..so those would too, right?

The truth is, it's been my personal observation that there are a few status-minded guys who inquire about labels and styles of clothing (but mostly designers and labels) in this category. Oddly enough, there appear to be more guys who're all hung up on who's name is on their underwear or their bum/running shoes/belt/shirt than girls.

I suppose that's due to the fact that (in general) girls have been trained since birth to develop a style sense. Females figured out early in their lives (maybe around 3) that the look and style can be had and created without having to spend their brains out. A 3 yr old girl can play in Mummy's dresser and create a princess outfit..complete with a crown and royal scepter (she may even manage to turn the dog into her royal pony and her baby brother into her hand maiden).. by 3 yrs old..! (not all but quite a few).

(some) Guys seem to be overly consumed with how they are perceived and they believe that wearing a certain brand translates into them being more worthy. Not trying to be sexist here..there are plenty of status-hungry females out there. (and there are plenty of princess ensemble wearing little 3 yr old boys too, now that I think about it). It goes both ways. it IS surprising how many tween and teen guys appear to be convinced that wearing designer clothing is a sign of being a better and more worthy individual, though.

Which brings back around to:
Yes. In some ways I do believe that some guys wear (not just) boxers to fit in socially. Depending on who designed those boxers, that is.

why do i get bad cramps in my calf?

whenever i flex my calves too hard or often, i get a really bad cramp where my calf feels really tight and condensed and it hurts soo bad to move it. this only lasts for a minute or two then it goes away. it also looks weird and stuck out when you observe it as it cramps. my friend says its a charlie horse but why would i get them so often and continously. i am a female runner age 15, run over 30 miles per week if this matters. thanks in advance!

You don't really want trail running shoes. You're gonna want a normal trainer for your every day runs, and spikes for the races (unless you run on roads like California does sometimes. Then you want flats)
