I've heard bad things about Nike Shox. And I don't know whether I should choose Air of whatever other kind they have. I have an ideal foot shape. Not too flat, and not too much arch.

Which would you suggest?

Are these any good? If you have more suggestions, please tell me the name of the shoe, and I will search it.

Answer
Ideally you should go to a running shop & have the staff assess what type of foot you have (ie. neutral or overpronating). Or, stand with your feet about shoulder width apart & keeping your feet flat on the floor band your knees (get a friend to look). If your arches collapse when you do this, go for a pronation shoe; if not, neutral.

A few shoes are listed below

Neutral shoes:
Nike Pegasus (v. popular shoe)
Nike Percept (similar but more cushioning)
Nike Zoom Marathoner or Nike Mayfly (lightweight racing shoes)

Overpronation shoes:
Nike Perseus (overpronation version of pegasus)
Nike Air Structure Triax

As for Nike Shox, they look good but theyre basically a fashion shoe & far from ideal for a runner.

pain in feet and calves through exercise?

In Rainbow

Recently I've started back into training and have been getting very bad pain from the soles of the feet up to the calves when I run (which springs up within minutes)... Now after a bit of research and bit of help from more knowledgeable people I've concluded I have flat feet and overpronate so have invested in some new running shoes and insoles but it hasn't made much difference as of yet.

So, would anyone know 1) If there's anything I can do to relieve the pain 2) If theres anything else I can do to help ease the pain whilst running and 3) How long it would take in general for these things to go away if treated?

Answer
Many runners who have severe overpronation need a running shoe with serious medial support. The best one on the market for men is the Brooks Beast (Brooks Ariel for women).

Here's a review of the Brooks Beast:

http://www.runpals.com/brooks-beast.html

Trying out the Beast would be a cheaper option compared to expensive alternatives, such as doctor visits or custom orthotics.

Try these out and see if it helps!

What's the difference between running shoes and weight lifting shoes?

I was looking online for some running shoes and came across weight lifting shoes and wanted to know what the difference was between the two. I run and weight and know that running shoes can better your performance by a ton when you run long distances but do weight lifting shoes do the same when lifting? If so how? Thanks to all who answered.

Answer
running shoes help absorb the shock put on your muscles and joints when you run, where weightlifting shoes help your body position into a more natural and efficient weight lifting form.

p.s. using the wrong shoes for running may injure you, but using the wrong shoes for weightlifting should not do any physical harm!

What type of running shoes should I buy?

i bmth

I want to start running more and I would like some good running shoes. Currently I am at 1 &1/2 to 2 miles but I will be doing a 5k in June. I also want to do the Mackinac Island 10k run in September. I have low, almost flat, arched feet. I want the Nike Eclipse running shoes but I don't know if those will be right for me.

Answer
Definitely try them on first. I find saucony works best for me and Asics second. I didn't like Nike much. I had Nike racing flats for some xc tracks, but normally ran in saucony shoes. They only make running shoes. Brooks and new balance are also liked by many. If you can find a store that specializes in running shoes, go there because they can probably find you shoes that match your feet and running style. Shoes are way more important in running than most people realize so you want to make sure you get the right ones.

Only in that they look about 5 times stupider than just going barefoot, and at least 10 times as stupid as just about anything else you can put on your feet, even if you're a clown.

How to spot fake Nike Air Max 2013 shoes?

kendra

Bought a pair from ebay (from the US) and the price was a little lower than what most go for so that was the first reason I became skeptical. Received them and something seems very off about them. The color of the shoe isn't a color I am familiar with, it seems to be a mix between emerald and neo turquoise which I didn't think was made, and the sole is a slightly off version of that color which doesn't seem right either. The sole where the Nike+ sensor goes is very poorly made and that appears to be one of the obvious spots that give it away. The insoles are very flimsy and made of a weird material that looks recycled? They are not marked with a Nike logo anywhere, just an Asian character. Everything about the shoe seems a bit off, for being brand new top of the line Nike running shoes. Anyone have any good tips on what EXACTLY to look for when comparing?

Answer
If u can send me pictures i could probably tell but look for color differences and flaws by comparing your shoe to a legit pair good luck :(

I'm a 24/f, i'm thin, but i'm trying to be more toned and healthy, i don't know how to start out a running routine, i joined a gym so i can use the equipment there, but i don't know how long to start or anything, any advice?

Answer
Welcome to the world of running. Enjoy your stay. You will like it. A year and nine months ago I was in your exact same spot. I joined the endurance sport training program Team In Training to train for the San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon. It was the best decision I ever made. TNT taught me the value of interval training You run for a set number of minutes, and then you take a one minute walk break, then repeat....again and again and again. Timex makes GREAT watches with interval timers. I recommend the Timex Ironman Triathalon. Since you are brand new to running, start with something that feels really easy to you. Try running for two minutes, and then taking a one minute walk break and repeating. Start out small. Run 3 miles. Starting out, it shouldn't feel difficult. You should be able to hold a conversation the entire time. If it is WAY too easy for you, increase your number of minutes running. Once you find an interval that gets your heart rate up (but doesn't leave you out of breath), then start increasing your mileage each week. Also, do five minutes of crunches every other day. It won't take long to increase your core strength. That will really benefit you once you start longer runs. Oh, and invest in a good pair of running shoes. Don't go to some bargain place. The wrong pair of shoes can make running agony. E-mail me if you need help with anything.

Question about transitioning between swimming and biking in a triathlon?

Ookami Kok

I'm not sure what kind of clothes I'm supposed to wear. I don't think I can manage to run without a sports bra/just in a swimsuit. Should I just slip on my sports bra over my swim suit?

Answer
I had to help my GF with this at her first race last year. I've competed in everything including IronMan so i've seen it all. Since it's your first race you probably don't want to spend $75 on a tri suit until you see if you even like the sport. But what you will need are small spandex bike shorts or even better, tri-shorts (which just means they have a smaller pad so they don't absorb water like a diaper). Wear these during your swim because if you don't you will have to put them on during the transition which will cost you time. Believe me you will be the only one on the beach without them if you don't wear them. You can buy a cheap pair on the internet for $20. As for the top just wear your sports bra swimming, if you don't wear it you will need to put it on anyway during the transition because you definately can't run without one. The only argument to you not wearing it during the swim is that it will create slightly more drag in the water than a swimsuit top will. But are you an Olympic swimmer that's gonna notice the 1 second difference? It's gonna take you longer than that to put it on in the transition station anyway. If you wanna really help save time buy elastic shoe laces. Everyone there with any experience will have them on. They'll save you a good 20 seconds not having to tie your laces. Again, you can order cheaply on the internet. I'm assuming it's just a sprint race so bring water, no need for gatorade or anything sticky.

Im looking for something new that is made by a good trusted brand. Also i want a serious running shoe.. I have heard that nike free runs arent a bery serious shie but that could be wrong.... Opinions?

Answer
Hi there!

Well, I run in Vibram Five Fingers. You might have seen them before- they are the shoes that have the individual "slots" for your toes. They take about a week to get used to but after that they fell AMAZING!

They help you run with a more natural stride. It really helps with speed, efficiency, and muscle strength. I used to have bad knee and back pain while I ran, but as soon as I started running with Vibrams it all went away and I haven't felt it since! They are amazing, I would highly suggest them! You should atleast try them on in a store.

If you don't want to try Vibrams, I really like Asics as well. They aren't too expensive but they are great for running. They're nice and light, and super comfy! Also, New Balance and Reebok shoes work well, too. Everyone is different.

Hope this helps! :)

Why does Obama want to make us appreciate perverts?

I am happily married man, to a woman of course, because I am not a pervert. Why does Obama want to make me acept gay people? I have the right to discrimenate against sex addicts who endanger my faith and this country's future.

NOBAMA! ROMNEY 2012!

Answer
Obama is certainly liberal minded. And that poses a threat to all that is decent. Homosexuals make the choice to fall back on their desires and temptations. And that's about as justifiable as me giving in to lust for all women, even though I am married. I say this because the living proof that homos are perverts is right online. Spend some time hanging out on porn video websites and forums. You will find gays lusting over each other through comment. Yet, you don't see women doing this much at all. There is a narcissism involved with gay people and it shows in how they try to force their way of life upon the masses. Marriage is a prime example of this. It's absurd that they are trying to wear the shoes of a man/woman relationship. Segregation has always been an integral part of maintaining balance and order in society. To take that away is to head towards a completely self absorbed culture full of non-empathetic people. Many studies have been done over the last 30 years to show that the more "equal" minded society has become, and the more dependent upon technology, the less empathetic people are. Back when etiquette and modesty were important, the better everyone was. Women were to be feminine and a notch down from men, just like they have been since the beginning. To equal themselves with men was an act of war and considered rebellious. The Holy Bible demonstrates this well, and world history has also shown it. Blacks are still the prime example of "inequality" because they are not equal to whites in many ways. This is obvious if you head on down to the black part of town. They still hang out in the streets blocking traffic, get in public fights, black women swear at their children at a volume that surpasses a police siren. And the police still spend more time in those neighborhoods. I could go on and on. But the point is that blacks have a problem with being fully domesticated. They cannot conform to society fully. They want their own clothes, their own behavior, their own music, their own language, their own churches, their own holidays. Yet demand to be called "equal" when it suits their agenda. By nature, it is IMPOSSIBLE for blacks to conform to society at a degree that is acceptable. And that is what keeps them in prisons more than any other race. There is no prejudice because there is no equality. Men and women are NOT equal. Blacks and whites are NOT equal. And throwing a bunch of religions into one country is like lighting a fuse. It's a matter of time until this country will destroy itself. History is repeating itself. There have been civilizations that have been destroyed because of unmitigated individual freedoms, homosexuality running wild, and conceited feminist women maintaining division.

America and many other parts of the world are becoming arrogant and pretentious all wrapped up in an ego-maniacal "self" machine. The only way forward is backward.

Is it a bad thing to wear a clothing style that doesnt blend with your lifestyle?

Lina

Im 24 years old campus student and always loved classic ladylike outfits like "office gal" inspired outfits.

The ironic part? I live in a rural town area with a small population. They are farms outside the central part of country. Most people live in sneakers and jeans and I only see men and woman in suits occassionally, but personally I prefer wearing office dresses, pencil skirts and nicer leather shoes. I love the 40-60's (this type of dresses http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-X3rva6rQh9M/T-vnUbDLyzI/AAAAAAAAA6I/5ddv4yFyQEM/s1600/dress-trends-2012-ladies-office-wear.jpg but dressed down with flats/riding boots, tights and cardigans).

One time when I was traveling with my family to a beach/camping area and went to a restuarant during the noon. :S Most girls/women wore shorts and tank tops + walking sandals. What I wore a lacy hot pink dress, (faux)pearl necklace, pantyhose and ballet flats with 1" wedge + evening makeup.http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7391/9405216191_f38dd33e81_z.jpg (not "office"inspired, I know. I wear other things as well!) I almost took with me pumps, but my parents were so sceptical about and even hided the shoes. o.O To school, I love this type of outfits: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jMTXuSOyuz0/UOyuwFGAbVI/AAAAAAAACqE/kiZ5jgPHnCk/s640/photo.jpg

It feels like my personal style and lifestyle clash all the time. I dress like I lived in a city while other dress more "country"-ish. :L

Do you find thïs type of dressing a bad thing? Anybody else who are like this?
Hmmm. sorry for the large pics. I dont understand the new Y.A. xD
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7391/9405216191_f38dd33e81_c.jpg
This is what I wore to the beach restuarant while other wore shorts and tank tops. LOL

Answer
In the long run it will pay off.

I live in a town surrounded by farms and corn. Even when people dress nicely, it's like, country suburb nice, not city nice.

When I dress country suburb style, and go to the nearest mall in a city, I barely get service and no one pays attention to me. Meanwhile, when I dress in something that is nice and actually makes me look like I could be a lawyer in the city, and then go to the mall? Sales people are practically tripping over each other to help me. That's just one example I can think of. It's also paid off getting me jobs when other people who came in wearing jeans and normal shirts didn't, and a number of other ways.

How would one go about starting a farm?

best running shoes under 50 pounds image

In a few years I want to purchase a good sized portion of land to be able to sustain 50 - 100 people. How does one go about finding out how to grow all kinds of crops, the laws of keeping(and killing) livestock, and the best area in the US for owning this type of land? I want to start learning what I can now, maybe even work at a family owned farm so that I am ready when I start my own. Any and all help is appreciated.

Answer
The honest answer is you really cannot purchase land in any ONE place that will provide all the food needs of a small band.

Not unless you are willing to eliminate a food group from your diet.

I live in the Pacific Northwest, about 4 miles from the ocean on a permaculture farm.

We produce most of our own food. We raise goats, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, fruit trees, vegtables, nut trees, berries, even going to stock our pond with fish for us to eat.

Did you notice I didn't type a single thing about grain? We live in the Pacific Northwest...far too wet here to sucessfully grow grains.

So we buy our wheat, and oatmeal in bulk and store it in our large pantry. We have about 800 pounds or so of just wheat. We are only maintaining our pantry for three adult people, by the way.

Butchering your own livestock depends entirely on your states laws. In most states the ability to butcher ones own livestock is protected under freedom of religion laws. The farther East you get the more likely you are to run into some serrious restrictions. Also counties within a state can differ greatly on their laws.

How serrious are you about raising your own food? Everyone thinks butchering livestock has got to be THE most difficult job. It can be difficult, especially emotionally. Butchering can be downright easy compaired to some jobs.

Lets take something really simple most people don't even think of. Sugar. Is your community going to produce it's own sugar? Without sugar, the yeast in your bread will not rise.

So you could have hives of honey bees. You could grow sugar beets and extract the sugar from them. You could grow sugar cane, but that means living in a tropical climate, like Hawaii. You could grow sorgum, and make molasses, but that means living in a hot climate, like Georiga. You could extrac and boil down maple syrup from maple trees. That means living in a cooler climate, and on land that already has mature sugar maple trees (sugar maple need to be 40 years old before they are tapped for the very first time!).

Who is going to rule your community? A community that large needs rules. What if someone decides to start growing pot? What if someone in the community grows beautiful flowers and brings in 5 times as much money selling them as someone who grows vegtables. Does that entitel the person growing the flowers to 5 times the rescources of the community? What if someone decides raising ostriches is the way for the community to get rich?

Your community can live on the "three sisters," and live in a wide range of climates. The three sisters are corn, squash, and beans. They all grow well together, and from complete protiens when you eat them.

A complete protien allows humans to heal from wounds, pregnant women to carry a baby to term, and for children to grow.

Beans are an incomplete protien.
Rice is an incomplete protien.

Eat them together though, and you have a complete protien. So who's going to learn about nutrition to keep the community safe?

How do you plan to afford the land, and taxes, and medical bills, and money for supplies (doubt someone wants to sew underwear, or make shoes for everyone in the community).

You have a lot of learning and a lot of planning ahead of you. You need to start to study climates, and property prices in states you'd like to live in.

Don't forget to take things into concideration. Missouri has a LOT of very reasonably priced farm land. It also sits on THE biggest earthquake fault in the U.S.A. Everyone thinks it's the San Andreas in California...nope, Missouri is where there's the chance of having an earthquake of truely stupendous mangnitude.

Start reading every single book on agriculture you can lay your hands on. That's what I've been doing most of my life.

Why am I apprehensive about losing weight?

I'm sure this type of question is not asked often, but I'm actually nervous about losing weight. I honestly would like to lose at least 50 pounds. Airlines lobby for system to speed airport security Biometrics uses scans of iris and fingerprints
By Carly WeeksOTTAWA â A coalition of Canadian airlines and airports is putting pressure on Transport Minister Lawrence Cannon to adopt a biometric travel screening program that would allow passengers to âfast trackâ through airport security and avoid hassles like taking off their shoes, coats and removing laptops from their cases before boarding planes. The voluntary program, which is currently in place at several major U.S. airports, relies on iris and fingerprint scans to identify passengers and quickly move them through airport security. The biometric screening system is seen as a way to significantly reduce line-ups and other delays that have become a major hassle for passengers, particularly those who travel frequently, according to the coalition, which includes Air Canada, WestJet, as well as the Toronto, Montreal and Edmonton airport authorities. âItâs just another service to passengers,â said Scott Armstrong, spokesman for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority. âObviously, people are always looking for ways to make the whole airport process quicker.â Although some Canadian airports have expressed interest in the biometric screening, the federal government has to approve such a program before it can be up and running in Canada. Thatâs because Transport Canada would have to conduct the background checks on interested applicants, and Canadian Air Transport Security Authority employees would likely be responsible for helping passengers with biometric cards at the airport.

When passengers are approved for the program, they receive a card that comes equipped with a microchip containing their biometric data that they must bring to the airport and scan on a machine, similar to a bank machine. Passengers with biometric cards would be able to wait in separate lines that have specialized security equipment, enabling them to pass through security checkpoints quickly and easily.
Adopting such a system, also known as a registered traveller program, âwould enhance aviation security while improving the passengersâ experience in the airport,â says a letter sent to Cannonâs office last month by the group of Canadian airlines and airports.
The group argues the federal government wouldnât have to spend any money on the screening program, because it would be paid for by the private sector. Furthermore, any Canadians that wanted to use a biometric screening card would have to pay for the service.
There is currently one company, called Clear, which operates the biometric screening program for about 45,000 passengers in the U.S. Although the GTAA has already signed an agreement with Clear for a similar program here, nothing can move forward until the federal government decides whether or not to approve it.
A spokeswoman for Cannonâs office as well as CATSA said the federal government is currently reviewing the program to see if it can be implemented here.

I am looking for a pair of running shoes for a flat footed person. I am wondering if anyone has some shoes they just "love" and would recommend to anybody! I am looking to spend around 60 bucks but a little more is worth it if they are good.

Answer
Can't suggest a specific brand because every shoe feels different to people but for flat feet you would want to look at shoes that are designed for Motion Control. All major running shoe brands make Motion Control shoes.

You might find some shoes in your price range, but keep in mind that cheap shoes now can turn into long term knee problems..

Answer
Kool Kat your friends are not very well rounded because flat feet are a very common condition. As a co-sufferer I use Brooks and Asics Duo max. Although the Asics look a lot better the Brooks actually wear better. It provides the proper support that makes running easy. I definitely know how this feels. I've alwasy been on the heavy side, but since I'm in high school I joined track and field....

All I can say is push yourself and you will feel great. One word can solve a lot... JOG!! It's obvious what a jog is but it's slow, and the point of it is to push yourself a bit forward with the ball of your foot rather than running really hard slamming your feet on the ground. Whatever excersize you do, a half mile of jogging (two laps around a track; 800 meters) makes a great warm-up (sounds tough, but after getting used to it it's great). Do some stretching and then try sprinting a little, then more jogging.... walking in between is okay, just don't stop moving the whole time you are working out, unless you are taking a much needed break. Oh and always stay hydrated!! It lubricates your joints to help you stay moving.

Hope I helped. :)

ps. Never run in shoes that have a sole that goes in a straight line... always run in sneakers with a sole that is shaped for your heels. Running in Chuck Taylors is what makes my ankles hurt like that.

What are the best middle-distance track spikes, specifically for the 800 meter?

Mike

no price limit and they are going to be for outdoor track if that matters. I have been running my whole life, but this is my first year of track that allows wearing spikes. I just run the 800 and 4x800.

Answer
Id say Nike Zoom Victories are my favorite out of all the spikes i won. I also run the 800 and I love the Victories. They are pretty much the lighest shoe on the market for middle distance running spikes (im pretty sure they are the lightest) and they have a great spike plate. They are a very fast spike. Nike has recently come out with Victory 2s and I have not seen them in person but by looking at pictures i think im gonna stick with the original Victories.

How did the British feel about serving the Indians in India?

In the early 20th century, when Britain had control of India, how did they feel about serving them? Were they honorable men? Why or why not?
Thanks! :D

Answer
I am not understanding what you mean by the British SERVING the Indians.... ?

I know that the British USED the INDIANS to "service" THEM.
The British made the Indians servants, well, they "hired" them if that is what you wish to call it.

I recently had a neighbor whose father was a small child during the British occupation of India. The boy had been offered a job as a houseboy in a British officer's home BUT he had to have a pair of shoes to get the job. His entire family had to come together, uncles, aunts and cousins included to pool all their money to buy the boy a pair of shoes so he could get this job to be able to help support his family.
The officer never considered that the boy's family was simply too poor to afford shoes and just figured the child was a semi-barbarian and was doing him a favor by working him 12-14 hrs a day for a very small pittance, and not as a young man feeding his family.
An Elitist attitude will do that.

Indian soldiers serving in the military were mostly strong, honorable men, serving on BOTH sides.
Of course, the British looked down upon them as inferiors.
Not all, but most.
Conquerors always feel superior.

I guess it really depended on what side you were on, the British side or the opposing Indian side.

Keep in mind that India was already a great, complex, learned, and ANCIENT society when Alexander the Great invaded them..... while residents of the British Isles were running around in fur loinclothes.

Just not really sure what you are asking here.

How do I run a non-profit school in the developing world?

Fenix

I am currently researching how best to approach building a school in the developing world. I plan to save enough money for overhead like purchasing land and building a center. However, I want to know what would be the best way to keep it operating. I want to model it off of the Barefoot College in India by providing education on sustainable living and literacy. I am open to all comments.

Answer
I don't have many tips besides make sure it is accessible to children in the area, be it physically, and through the rules. In other words, don't have rules requiring superfluous things like shoes if you want a good turnout. But anything at all you do to help those kids is a step in the right direction, and every one of them you help is beyond good for our global society. The world needs more people like you.

I've got a large walk-in master closet, and I'd love to find a way to creatively display my shoes. I've probably got about 15 pairs of heels/pumps, 4-5 pairs of flip flops, and 3-4 pairs of running/athletic shoes. I'm wondering, what's the most creative way you've seen someone store and/or display shoes?

Answer
I have a walk-in closet as well. I put up a shoe shelf. Not one of those boxxy things either. This is a simple shelf on an incline, that has a lip on its edge to keep the shoe in place. Wasn't hard to build myself. I took the measurement of the wall I wanted it on, and went down to Home Depot and found two nice oak 1x10 boards and one 1x2. The nice guys down there cut the boards for me to length. Then I put one board up flat, then tacked the 1x2 on it upright, and then set the other 1x10 on top with the 1x2 in front it put the top 1x10 at an incline with the back raised and gave me a lip for the shoes to rest on. I did have to use 3 shelf hangers, They look like metal L's.

I wanna start running what do i need?

I'm 17 and I want to start running and getting in shape more. What do I need to know about running...shoes? Exercises? Stretches? Training? Also I think I might want to do a mud run, marathon or half marathon by January...any tips?

Answer
this is what i like to do, ive been doing it from the day i started running&kept it up for a few weeks-

walk for 20 minutes, progressing into a power walk for the last 5
start jogging
jog until you cant take it
walk until you've recovered
and keep jogging :) don't push yourself too hard on your first runs, 20-30 minutes is the max amount of running u should do the first 1-2 weeks.

all you need is a pair of trainers. (actually, you dont even need those), some loose shorts, sports bra and a top. if you decide you really like running and your gonna keep it up, go out & get fitted for running shoes, buy some good running shorts (i <3 nike drifits), etc. :p don't get TOO decked out with running stuff unless u need it though. less is more.

hope you like running, good luck!:)

Im going to Europe late june-early july and don't want to look too much like the clueless tourist that I am, so nothing major, just the basics, such as "don't wear athletic shorts"
specific countries are france, italy, austria, and switzerland, and any specifics on cargo shorts and stripes on shirts?
and were planning on doing lots of walking, so good walking shoe recommendations as well are much appreciated

Answer
Specific style tips depend on what country you're in, but in general wear:
-neutrals like biege, white, brown, black, tan
-no running shoes.
-no sports team ball caps or T shirts like Miami Heat or the Green Bay Packers or anything. Unless you wear something soccer related
-leather is big. Leather jackets.
-Basic V neck t shirts with blue jeans
-loose hair. Don't cut it too short, don't use too much gel
-for dinner, do a t shirt and a sports coat
-sunglasses.
-cigarette.

How many bottles of FabriClear spray does it take to treat one bed or one bedroom?

J.A. F

We have a three-bedroom house and a bedbug problem. I've been looking into the use of FabriClear spray, but I'm wondering how much of one bottle does it take to treat one bed or one bedroom. Anyone here have any experience with this product?

Answer
I would not advise this. Youre wasting your time. there was recently a court case in the USA about that OTHER bedbug spray they said killed bedbugs and was organic.. and what ever..
People WON the lawsuit. It did NOT work.

This stuff sounds just like it.

You can not get rid of bedbugs by common products or procedures.
You have to jump on it with BOTH FEET, with professionals and do it right the first time.
It must be followed up at least a second time.
The biggest mistake people make is thinking its easy to get rid of, like food bugs or even ants.

ITS NOT. Because they made all the effective poisons ILLEGAL years ago, bed bugs are harder to get rid of than cockroaches !
BEDBUGS CAN LIVE FOR OVER A YEAR INSIDE A WALL even without getting fed. ( fact)
Sun does not kill bed bugs ( fact)
Steam only kills bugs and eggs that it TOUCHES... so getting inside upholstered furniture with steam is ineffective.
the poison only kills what it can touch too, and typical the poisons they are using only last 20 days. A second treatment WITHIN twenty days is the health department's policy.
If you dont do both... dont bother doing just one. There is no point.

Thermo treatment works on furniture, I think its 140 ' F for as many hours you need to penetrate, but it does not clear your home because they run from the heat and they ARE FAST.

The best thing you absolutely can do...
is treat everything properly right down to your tea towels and shoes, chuck all pillows, bag all beds, get a poison with a long residual, and follow the advice of these videos for detection and traps and procedures that are PROVEN TO WORK.

If you dont jump on it with both feet the problem will be HARDER, later.
And please take precautions so you dont spread them.

See these three videos this guy has its the best reference to SEE and compare and identify a bed bug /bedbug.

solutions for sharp knee pain and bunions due to flat feet/overpronation?

best walking shoes overpronation image

I'm only 18 and I feel like these should be the worries of an elderly woman...
I don't walk very much throughout the day but I do tend to stand for long periods of time. I love to work out and do so regularly in my abeo's which are made specifically for shock absorption, arch support and body alignment. However, I must admit that I don't wear the best casual shoes throughout the day-- I assume this is the root of all the pain.
Both of my arches are almost nonexistent and my big toes seem to invert more and more every day. not only do they look bad but man, they HURT!
I have always had hyperextended knees which have messed with my posture and overall body alignment but I have never had any pain until very recently. I get really awful, sharp pains in the sides and back of my knees if i'm standing, walking or putting any pressure on my feet.

In conclusion, I'm absolutely desperate... I'm a college student with no insurance so a podiatrist is probably out of the question. I would love to get orthotics or some sort of insole(or really anything else) that might help I just have no idea how to go about finding the appropriate solution(s). Suggestions, remedies and any info on the subject would be very much appreciated!

Answer
Normally I don't answer one that has other answers, but today I'm making an exception for you.
It all comes down to your having a longer second toe. And as time goes along, you may well develop low back pain because of it. And you pronate to try to keep the big toe as the primary toe, despite the anatomy.
Follow the process. The problem is with you having a longer second toe, you have a two-point (heel and second toe) rather than a three-point base of support.
Think about it. If you were walking on ice, you would very carefully walk, in a rather stiff-legged fashion, to keep from falling. And that's what happens when women wear high heels. They are unsteady, they take shorter steps, they walk in a stiff-legged fashion.
So, if you have a longer second toe, you are likely to walk in a way that causes your hips to move a lot more than someone that simply lands on their heel and then pushes off with their big toe. That may eventually give you leg and hip pain.
I'm not able to see you, but the longer second toe is called the Greek Toe, since the man that was the model for Michelangelo's statue of David had it, along with the bunion process, etc. He certainly didn't wear sneakers or high heels.
Now, some people have the last joint of the second toe removed. But not many do it, because even if another toe is perfectly even with the big toe, the other one is longer because the big toe has more padding.
The first site I'm giving you is a collection of bunion pictures. Notice that second toe being longer.
Are there nonsurgical options? Yes, and one of them can cost only a couple of dollars. In Bonnie Prudden's book "Pain Erasure", she discusses the option of getting an old pair of tennis shoes, cutting a couple of circles out of the sole the size of a quarter, and glueing them to a pair of shoe inserts (like cheap Dr Scholl's) at exactly the spot below the ball of the foot. This causes the weight to be carried longer on the big toe where it should be, and the second toe isn't having to try to do all the work. Gorilla Glue is a good glue for such a project.
Easy enough to get the book at a library. Or Amazon has it, just to show I'm not making this up. So don't try for a particular brand of shoe. Put your foot on some thick cardboard, mark around your foot, cut it out, and use that as an initial estimate of the shoe box size you need. Your foot will be wider because your metatarsal arch will have fallen. So start out with wide shoes. And I do suggest that you make the supports I mentioned, for both feet. When you find a shoe that seems good, you can do a final fitting with the supports in place.
The third site I've given incorporates the previous details, and helps you to be sure about the diagnosis, because the issue isn't really the toe length, but the length of a different toe joint. You'll see what I mean. And you can read how an insert you use COULD make it worse.

Would appreciate it if you would give "best answer".

I got new running shoes and my feet hurt?

Sam

I think this is the first time I acutally had running shoes. They are stability shoes which is for overpronation. I took a online test so i can choose the right shoes and everything. So why does my feet hurt on the bottom. Is it becuase I havent broken into them or is it cuase its my first ever using running shoes etc.

Answer
It's because you don't need them. They're just hurting you even more. We're not born with shoes on our feet, so why do we need them? We don't. You have flat feet, I presume. Whatever age you are now, you're past the point at which your arches ossified, and they're flat. Cramming your foot into a mold of the proper foot shape will not help, and will only cause you more pain. Your bones are already set into place, and there's nothing you can do to change it. Besides, the more you wear the shoes, the more the arch support will flatten, and you'll just be buying more shoes in an endless cycle until you die.

However, if you walk barefoot as much as possible (not in public, just around your house, or inside), you will actually use the muscles in your legs and feet, and strengthen then. Combined with certain exercises, the muscles with strengthen, and the arches will raise slightly, You'll still have relatively flat feet, but the muscles in your feet and legs will be built up, and they will be able to better handle the impact of the disorder.

Conversely, if you keep wearing such ridiculous shoes, the muscles in your feet and lower legs will atrophy, they will severely weaken, the arches will lower even more, and your condition will be much worse. Lastly, wear a minimalist shoe such as Vibram Five-fingers, and stop running. Try to keep it at walking. Flat feet are a structural disorder, and the impact and shock of landing on them is distrubuted improperly, causing pain. Besides, we're not meant to run all of the time. Those with normal arches are just lucky. How do I know this? I also have flat feet.

What's the difference between Paul Ryan's position and GOP Todd Akin/MO position on that "sensitive" issue?

Answer
I was just going to star your question, but then Uncle Rupert made reference to me, so I thought...what the heck, let's jump on in.

The hollowpoint-bullet Paul Ryan is for "personhood" at the point of conception, if that gives your readers a clue on this dangerous zealot's control-freak approach to women. For someone on the far-right-wing "smaller" government (no oversight, no consumer protections as favored by his all-time hero Ayn Rand, the Russian aetheist), Ryan seems to get high on the idea of butting into women's privacy issues and cramming his narrow-minded tight-shoes version of psycho-pseudo "religion" down their...uh...throats, so to speak. Todd Akin, the hardcore right-wing opponent running against Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO), who claims he believes there is a "legitimate rape" where a woman "cannot get pregnant" (what INSANITY!!..), should give all women and men who support women's freedoms, rights, and privacies (especially the right-wing hypocrites that cheat on their wives from time to time while sermonizing about "morality" and who might get their extracurricular younger gals pregnant since they want to ban contraception) reason to NOT NOTE REPUBLICANS this time around!

Claire McCaskill may not be perfect for those of us who reside in Missouri, but it was Senator McCaskill who set up the rules which said that the Bush/Cheney bailout banksters should NOT make more than the U.S. President, so she sponsored a bill in 2009 limiting these banksters' salaries to $500,000 (she originally wanted only $300,000) per year and only preferred shares of stock until each one of them had PAID US BACK WITH INTEREST---a smart move for our state's former Treasurer that netted the U.S. a whopping $181 BILLION in paybacks with interest from 14 of the borrowers, allowing the Democrats and President Obama to do a DEFICIT PAYDOWN BY 8% in the first months of 2010 (reported in Bloomberg News, Reuters, AP, and on MSNBC's evening programs).

Now we have a chance to keep the fiscally SANE Claire McCaskill as our Senator, and I hope the rest of America wakes up to the idea that the right-wingers in control of the GOP are wanting to take this great nation in the WRONG DIRECTION and, based on their attempts at VOTER SUPPRESSION, they are willing to CHEAT in order to do their dirty work with the exact same policies that the Bush/Cheney/GOP totalitarianism used to cause the problems in the first place.

VOTE DEMOCRATS if sanity is something you seek.

acai berry and beri ultimate has anyone tried these and do they work?

candy

thanks to anyone with any info on this .

Answer
They don't work and neither do any other supplements.

The acai berry has no special properties and has nothing to do with fat loss. The myth began when a doctor, Dr. Mehmet Oz, from Columbia Uni mentioned the berry on the Oprah show and supplements makers, being the scammers they are, began promoting products using acai as having beneficial properties they don't have often invoking the names of Oprah an Dr. Oz. Oprah and Oz filed suit against many supplements makets and the acai myth was born. Go here to read about it --> http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=8369105 Consumers, being credulous and ignorant of how supplements scammers bilk the public, began repeating and propagating the myth to the point of it becoming a global meme.

Here's an example of how scammers have created fake news websites just to sell acai junk to credulous web surfers. Ref: http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2011/04/fakenews.shtm
Note the excerpt: "FTC Seeks to Halt 10 Operators of Fake News Sites from Making Deceptive Claims About Acai Berry Weight Loss Products. Internet Marketers Falsely Claim Endorsement from ABC, Fox News, CBS, CNN, USA Today, and Consumer Reports, FTC Alleges"

Here's an complaint forum about Acai Fit. Ref: http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/acai-fit-c212046.html
Note the excerpt: "Ordered Acai-Fit weight loss pills online. They advertise Free Trial for 1 month if you just pay shipping. Sounds good but you are billed $74.82 after 14 days of using the product! This is completely nonrefundable. At that point you can only stop future shipments. It defiantly takes more time to see if a product works. Even though I saw no effects, they still charged me. Do yourself a favor READ THE FINE PRINT. Not a mistake I will make again! Don't be fooled. If it seems to be too good to be true...IT IS."

Forget the acai berry..unless you're familiar with it and happen to like it. It does nothing special. End of story.

There is a lesson to be learned from the acai berry phenomena and that is that most supplement makers are frauds, fakes, and only interested in taking your money. In particular the areas of diet and fitness are plagued with such charlatans and beset with countless myths and you'll see them every day in this forum. From protein shakes and muscle building supplements to silly Shake Weight and Ab Circle equipment to fad diets and green tea and Shape-Up toning shoes and on and on the BS runs rampant in Diet & Fitness. So, always be skeptical of and apply critical thinking to all advertising, reviews, articles, blogs, testimonials, and anything else which can be subverted by scammers. If a scammer can use it, they are.

Good luck and good health!!

How can I be pro-peta (animal activist) at 15?

on Buy Ellipticals: Helpful information from Consumer Reports
best walking shoes consumer reports image

Ali

I know everyone is entitled to an opinion, but how can i actually show that I'm pro-peta when I don't have the money to buy their stuff?

Answer
Peta is a ridiculous organization.
Animal lovers worldwide now have access to more than a decadeâs worth of proof that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) kills thousands of defenseless pets at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. Since 1998, PETA has opted to âput downâ 21,339 adoptable dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens instead of finding homes for them.

PETAâs âAnimal Recordâ report for 2008, filed with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, shows that the animal rights group killed 95 percent of the dogs and cats in its care last year. During all of 2008, PETA found adoptive homes for just seven pets.
Just seven animals -- out of the 2,216 it took in. PETA just broke its own record.
Why would an animal rights group secretly kill animals at its headquarters? PETAâs continued silence on the matter makes it hard to say for sure. But from a cost-saving standpoint, PETAâs hypocrisy isnât difficult to understand: Killing adoptable cats and dogs â and storing the bodies in a walk-in freezer until they can be cremated â requires far less money and effort than caring for the pets until they are adopted.

PETA has a $32 million annual budget. But instead of investing in the lives of the thousands of flesh and blood creatures in its care, the group spends millions on media campaigns telling Americans that eating meat, drinking milk, fishing, hunting, wearing leather shoes, and benefiting from medical research performed on lab rats are all âunethical.â

The bottom line: PETAâs leaders care more about cutting into their advertising budget than finding homes for the nearly six pets they kill on average, every single day.

I get terrible shin splints when I run. Would inserts help?

Not quite

I don't want to pay loads of money for the custom orthotics though. Are there inserts you can buy at like Fleet Feet or Dick Pond?

Answer
Inserts... hmmm... there are sports medicine doctors that work with this kind of stuff every day. I like the trainers at the local colleges. Maybe drop in and ask for advice. I never liked Dr. Sholls (I think that is how it is spelled) inserts.

Shin splints is one of those things that has so many causes;
poor shoe selection, running on hard surfaces like concrete, and even your running form.

Shoe selection... I say read the consumer reports to get the best shoe for the least amount of money. I personally like newballance and I personally have never found a pair of nikes that I liked. Shoes have to be not just comfortable, but very comfortable before you purchase them. I also like to wear thick, athletic socks.

Shoe construction caused my problem many years ago. There were metal pieces in my shoes holding them together. This also caused me to get an infection in my lymph system as well. If you are going to run, shoes are not something you can go cheap on. You owe it to yourself, when you set your mind to doing something, to do it 100% right. Also, talk to the trainers at your local colleges because they have to assist the injured and know the shoes to steer you towards and to avoid.

Running surfaces. Softer ones will help, but you now need to look out for gopher/snake holes, rocks and other such things which could cause even more severe problems. I found asphalt is softer and more forgiving than concrete.

Are you walking 1/4 to 1/2 the distance you ran before ending your workout? Are you properly cooling down? I do not believe nor do I think it would be a good thing to ice down your leg(s) after a run because it would constrict the blood flow when your affected region needs it the most.

Another thing that help me with my shin splints was modifying my form. I was running all messed up and I could not keep up the beatings I was taking. A running class at a junior college could get some excellent coaching with a very small cost.

One more thing... are you working repititions when doing your leg exercises as well; Leg extensions and curls, lunges, and etc...? I always believed it is really important to build muscle mass in the area where there is an injury.

Good luck.
