[Girls in the UK with bleached blonde hair]?

If you go to the salon and get your hair bleached blonde, how much does it cost for you?

I'm thinking of doing it and getting my hair dyed blonde like Blonde with very light brown or black highlights.

How much would it cost to get down, like dyed blonde or an estimate of what it would.

Thanks.

I ordered some doc martens?

Yahoo

Ok so I recently ordered some women's 1460s black smooth leather doc martens. Not the made in England ones these ones are the ones made in Thailand or china. Anyways I have wide feet and I'm a size 7 us so I ordered a. 5 uk and I was just wondering if they ran wide or narrow, I'm really scared that the shoes I really want might not even be able to fit . I know that they feel tight at first because you have to break them in but what if they never break in to the point where I'm actually comfortable because they are just to small or narrow. When I ordered Steve Madden boots I ordered a size 6 and they were too tight so I went up a size and they were way to big. I'm scared ill have the same problem , please someone who has a pair can you please shed some light on my situation I don't want to end up wearing them thinking I just have to break them in then find out they are too small and can't return them. Also I don't think I'd be comfortable going up a size I'm short and have a pretty big foot already so I would just feel uncomfortable .

Answer
Buyer beware when it comes to buying shoes online, and I do not rec. using PayPal. I got screwed, took 3 years for my credit. Avoid buying shoes, on sale that states: "Final Sale No returns."
I bought 2 pair of shoes, $700 worth @ Zappos, where they have free shipping & free returns. I am a 5 1/2, so I bought a size 6. Returned them. Ordered a 5, too small. I saved $700.
I went to Nordstrom's, they're having shoe sales. Found 2 shoes, both less than $300. Both were rated as 'best comfortable shoes for walking'. BTW: I wore one of the boots for 4 hours, and I didn't even do that much walking,

What are good nike running shoes....4 men?

Answer
Nike Shox are wonderful. They give you a good grip on the ground...men & women. I am a teenager, but i have a very large foot. My brother also likes them. They last really long too! Once you break them in, the give you a bounce so it's a little easier to run. Even when they are not broken in they are very comfy & are really great for running!

Foot pain since starting running again...?

Mis

I recently started running again. Cross country ended in the fall and i had shin splint problems so i was unable to do indoor track however i have just started up outdoor track. I just got back into running and we've been running quite a few miles (5-7 per day). Unfortunately my foot has been hurting me. I didn't have any pain at all during running one day and the next i woke up and i couldn't even walk or run. It's been like that for a few days now and i don't know what it is. During the cross-country season i bought new shoes but they were hurting my shins so i swtiched into my old ones from the year before (which i had knee problems that year) and they were fine through cross country but now it's starting to hurt. I think it might be becasue they're so worn out but i have walking shoes that have very good support in them and they still hurt my feet. I looked some things up on the internet but it says fallen arches or flat feet but i took a test and wet my foot to look at my foot print and it looks normal so i don't think that's it. Can anyone help??

P.S. The pain on the bottom of my left foot on the left side, so next to the arch, and if i walk for more than a few steps on it it begins to hurt everywhere.

Answer
Heel pain, heel spurs and plantar fasciitis can cause bottom foot pain. Symptoms include a dull ache which is felt most of the time with episodes of a sharp pain in the center of the heel or on the inside margin of the heel. Often the pain is worse on first rising in the morning and after rest and is aggravated by prolonged weight bearing & thin soled shoes

Those with flat feet or falling arches may also feel bottom foot pain. The symptoms vary depending on the severity of the condition. Individuals may experience corns, hard skin under the sole of the foot. The arch area may be tender and shoes will tend to wear out quickly. In severe cases the patient may experience calf, knee and hip pain

Mortonâs neuroma, the term neuroma refers to a swelling of a nerve. The nerve commonly affected is a small nerve that connects the 3rd and 4th toes, counting from the big toe. The patient will complain of pain in the sole of the foot.

People suffering from metatarsalgia â Metatarsalgia is a general term used to denote a painful foot condition in the metatarsal region of the foot (the area just before the toes, more commonly referred to as the ball of the foot). This is a common foot disorder that can affect the bones and joints at the ball-of-the-foot. Metatarsalgia (ball of foot pain) is often located under the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th metatarsal heads, or more isolated at the first metatarsal head (near the big toe).

With this condition one or more of the metatarsal heads become painful and/or inflamed, usually due to excessive pressure over a long period of time. It is common to experience acute, recurrent, or chronic pain with this common foot condition. Ball of foot pain is often caused due to improper fitting footwear, most frequently in womenâs dress shoes and other restrictive footwear. Footwear with a narrow toe box (toe area) causes the ball of foot area to be forced into a minimal amount of space. This can inhibit the walking process and lead to extreme discomfort in the forefoot.

Plantar warts or verruca. Verrucaes are a common complaint amongst children and adults. A verruca is a small skin lesion which is commonly found on the bottom surface of the foot. The lesion is usually approximately 1cm in diameter but can be larger. Sometimes a single wart may have many small satellite warts surrounding it, this is called a Mosaic Wart.

Corns- A corn is a localized thickening of the skin due to pressure. Corns often occur on the top of the toes where there is pressure from the shoes. However, they also occur at the sole of the foot and in between toes. Certain corns may become entwined with the nerves of the skin, these corns are particularly painful. Often corns develop a core which is often referred to as the "root" by patients. Corns can be very painful, especially if there is inflammation and swelling around the corn.

Wear comfortable, properly fitting shoes. They should have good arch support and cushioning.
Wear shoes with adequate room around the ball of your foot and toe.
Wear sneakers as often as possible, especially when walking.
Avoid narrow-toed shoes and high heels.
Replace running shoes frequently.
Warm up before exercise, cool down after exercise, and stretch adequately.
Increase your amount of exercise SLOWLY over time to avoid putting excessive strain on your feet.
Lose weight if you need to.
Learn exercises to strengthen your feet and avoid pain. This can help flat feet and other potential foot problems.
Keep feet dry to avoid friction. This may help prevent corns and calluses.
Avoid alcohol to prevent attacks of gout.

Healthy 18 year-old and Gout?

Laurance

I'm an 18 year old guy, 5-7", 140 pounds (About 63 kg), I eat fairly healthy; I stay away from carbonated drinks, sugars, white flour..., I'm not extremely strict, but I stick to that most of the time. and according to some websites, I don't eat food that is high in Uric acid, I did have breakfast two times this weak with a moderately listed Uric acid: Oatmeal.

I usually workout 2/3 times a week, and at least once. But I haven't worked out in a month or so, until couple days ago I did a 36 minutes of running on a treadmill (My shoes aren't meant for running, but I've used it to run for six months) after I was done I kind of felt one toe sore (but really not much) which didn't bother me at all. And last night before I want to sleep I felt few of my toes sore again. Nothing major.

The horror: I woke up at 6:30am with a very, very painful feeling in all of my toes in the morning. (the pain woke me up) and I seemed to be cold and shaking. A few minutes later the pain subsided, but it was still there. I'm not gonna lie, I was scared! I immediately went to the doctor, and the pain was not severe by any means on the way there, it seemed to range from low to low-moderate. The doctor examined my toes and said it was likely caused by the running two days ago, and prescribed a painkiller (500mg paracetamol, 30mg caffeine, 10mg codeine phosphate).

After a little research (more like google), I found that a "Gout attack" is described very similar to what I had! but then I found out that this is most likely to happen to older men (above 50) or obese/unhealthy people (At least that's what I understood), and I also found out that usually pain in Gout keeps getting worse for the next 8-12 hours after the initial sharp pain, but mine now, 6 hours later after the sharp pain and 3 hours after I took one pill of that painkiller, I feel a weird sensation in my toes, and very minimal to no pain (discomfort).

If anybody can tell me whats the possibility that I have this, It'd be appreciated? All my knowledge on gout is based on extremely basic google-search of 30 minutes, ANY help and input will be appreciated!

Answer
1. the pain is due to running and bruises.
2. What Ur doctor said is correct. Just, trust Him.
3. Medication given is most relevant one.
Just, take it easy and forget, since Ur anxiety without proper base is likely to interfere with Ur healing process.

How do you repair athletic shoes?

Paul

The sole is starting to detach in the front.

Answer
Shoe Goo or Goop is the best stuff I have ever used. It repairs a lot more than shoes. I used it on the toe cap on my shoes and it lasted longer than the shoes did. Go to Wal-Mart and look on the shoe care rack in the shoe dept. It should be below the athletic shoe laces, It runs about $3.97 for a large tube.

These shoes OK for Achilles Tendinitis?

Loz

So i've been running in strictly racing flats for the last 4 years and it finally have caught up with me.

So I've ended up with bad Achilles tendinitis, so I was thinking of switching to the Nike Free 2.0. I've tried a variety of trainers and I can't stand the feel of bulky/heavy shoes. So any ideas?

Answer
I have the same thing and I would recommend that you go and see a foot doctor. I got inserts to put in my shoes and now I am pain free. Hope this helps.

What kind of running shoes ?

JuNo

I started running and jogging about a week ago and i feel that the shoes i run with are horrible. I had them from about 10 years now and they are torn and beat up really bad. They are nike shoes. When i went out for a run with the shoes that day, my legs were so sore and i couldn't bend down or walk down the stairs without excruciating pain. What kind of running shoes would you suggest for my condition ?

Answer
You need to go to a specialized running store. Don't go to some big box sporting goods store or department store. Local places are generally the best when it comes to this. You need to find someone with the knowledge to diagnose your gait; once you understand your stride, how much you pronate, etc, you'll be able to know what kind of shoes you need. You will likely need to spend some money on your shoes, which is a bummer, but the alternative could be serious injury. I've suffered from a stress fracture, achilles tendonitis, ITBS, and other conditions, and many of them could have probably been at least partially avoided by proper footwear that wasn't worn out. Good luck, and realize that running is often naturally painful, especially when you are just getting started- but there's a limit to this. Don't hurt yourself because you dont have the right footwear.

what's your opinion on this article Airlines lobby for system to speed airport security?

angel

Airlines lobby for system to speed airport security Biometrics uses scans of iris and fingerprints
By Carly WeeksOTTAWA â A coalition of Canadian airlines and airports is putting pressure on Transport Minister Lawrence Cannon to adopt a biometric travel screening program that would allow passengers to âfast trackâ through airport security and avoid hassles like taking off their shoes, coats and removing laptops from their cases before boarding planes. The voluntary program, which is currently in place at several major U.S. airports, relies on iris and fingerprint scans to identify passengers and quickly move them through airport security. The biometric screening system is seen as a way to significantly reduce line-ups and other delays that have become a major hassle for passengers, particularly those who travel frequently, according to the coalition, which includes Air Canada, WestJet, as well as the Toronto, Montreal and Edmonton airport authorities. âItâs just another service to passengers,â said Scott Armstrong, spokesman for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority. âObviously, people are always looking for ways to make the whole airport process quicker.â Although some Canadian airports have expressed interest in the biometric screening, the federal government has to approve such a program before it can be up and running in Canada. Thatâs because Transport Canada would have to conduct the background checks on interested applicants, and Canadian Air Transport Security Authority employees would likely be responsible for helping passengers with biometric cards at the airport.
When passengers are approved for the program, they receive a card that comes equipped with a microchip containing their biometric data that they must bring to the airport and scan on a machine, similar to a bank machine. Passengers with biometric cards would be able to wait in separate lines that have specialized security equipment, enabling them to pass through security checkpoints quickly and easily.
Adopting such a system, also known as a registered traveller program, âwould enhance aviation security while improving the passengersâ experience in the airport,â says a letter sent to Cannonâs office last month by the group of Canadian airlines and airports.
The group argues the federal government wouldnât have to spend any money on the screening program, because it would be paid for by the private sector. Furthermore, any Canadians that wanted to use a biometric screening card would have to pay for the service.
There is currently one company, called Clear, which operates the biometric screening program for about 45,000 passengers in the U.S. Although the GTAA has already signed an agreement with Clear for a similar program here, nothing can move forward until the federal government decides whether or not to approve it.
A spokeswoman for Cannonâs office as well as CATSA said the federal government is currently reviewing the program to see if it can be implemented here.
â CanW est News Ser vice

Answer
I think it is an option as the US already has some type of program in place that if frequent travelers are willing to pay some fee and pass a background check, they can clear security at a faster rate than others and do not have to take off their shoes, etc.

My opinion is that the passengers that do go with the program should probably have their background checked every year just to make sure they are clean.

Will the rubbing alcohol method ruin my new skates?

Mackenzie

For Christmas, a friend bought me Graf Edmonton special skates. I was very pleased until I realize they were too small. My feet would feel very comfortable if they were about .5-1 inch longer. I read about this rubbing alcohol method online, of which you pour some in each boot and wear think socks. I am afraid this method will ruin my skates and it's ability to support me when I skate. Also, are there any other methods that could help stretch my boots? I heard about the ice method as well as shoe stretchers. Thank you;)

Answer
OMG, do NOT do anything that RJ suggested! Graf Edmonton Specials are heat moldable so you can take them to a proshop to get then molded. When you do flatten the toe area a bit, which should give you a little more room. It's recommended that you let the boots set for about 24 hours before skating in them. At the very least wait until they have cooled for a while. If you heat them up by any means and immediately go walking around or skating in them, they will crease and be ruined. If they still feel too short, most proshops can stretch them for you, usually about half a size. If all else fails, you'll probably have to sell them and get the correct size. Incidentally that's an awesome Christmas gift - I have these boots and they run about $700!

Cant wear high heels !!?

That Girl

WHy i cant wear them, all my girl friends wear them everyday, dance ,and even run with them
I tried practice b wearing them at m house but that didn't help

Answer
This woman is a model. The advice is sound. She's a little crazy and likes to walk funny. Her ability to walk like that just shows how comfortable she is in heels. How to Walk in Heels: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3a141Kwmkjk&list=TLA4Tgol9jWkKkBKzsutedmNF6hBtA_ZQf

This video shows her walking normally a bit more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fN1c_g5BoOE&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PL0DE34ECAA5AD2921

Start with low heels or chunky heels (seem to be trending right now) and work your way up as you feel more confident and secure. In general: Instead of walking heel-to-toe like you do barefoot (or in flats), shift your weight slightly forward in high heels. The higher the heel, the more you shift your weight forward. Practice this barefoot by letting the ball of your foot touch the ground first.

Some come by it easily. Some have to practice. Practice walking in your heels while your at home. Practice walking on carpet, on wood, all sorts of surfaces (plush carpet seems to be hardest). Likely, your friends practice while at home. You should also do a few practice laps while trying them on at the store. Make sure the heel of the shoe holds your foot securely in place (keeping your feet from sliding forward), the widest part of your foot fits into the widest part of the shoe, and the toe-box is not too tight.

Additionally, heels never have to be uncomfortable. If you feel any discomfort, either you are not walking correctly, need more cushioning in your shoe, or the shoe just is not good quality.

What are bunions on your feet?

Alyssa12

i'm fifteen and i run cross country and i think i might have a bunion on my foot...
what are bunions caused by?
what are symptoms?
how do you treat it?
can it be fixed?
what happens in the long term with having one?

Answer
Well bunions occurs as a result of a problem with your big toe known as hallux valgus. Hallux means the big toe and valgus means that itâs pointing outwards towards the other toes.
In hallux valgus the bone in your foot at the base of your big toe, called the first metatarsal, moves out at the side of your foot. Your big toe angles towards your other toes.
There is evidence that people can inherit a tendency to develop bunions. However, it doesnât always follow that if your parents or grandparents have bunions, you will have them too.
Hallux valgus affects more women than men. This may be because the ligaments in the foot (the structures that connect bones together) are usually looser in women than men.

The type of shoes you wear may also affect the development of a bunion. If you wear narrow or high-heeled shoes, this puts extra strain on the bones and muscles in your foot, pushing your toes together and forcing your big toe to point towards your other toes. Footwear alone doesnât cause bunions, but it can worsen them.

Bunions are also sometimes associated with joint diseases including osteoarthritis. However, there is usually no serious underlying cause.

Treatment of bunions Wearing the right shoes, using shoe inserts and padding and taking painkillers can all help to ease the symptoms of a bunion. However, these treatments canât cure a bunion or stop it getting worse. If you have severe pain or discomfort from a bunion, you will need to have an operation to correct it.

Self-help
One of the most important things you can do is to wear the right footwear. You should try to wear flat, wide shoes with laces or an adjustable strap that fits you properly. You may also want to use a bunion pad over your bunion to give you some protection from the pressure of your shoes. You can usually buy these pads from a pharmacy or from your chiropodist or podiatrist.

Medicines
You can take over-the-counter painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen to help relieve the pain and inflammation of your bunion. Always follow the instructions in the patient information leaflet that comes with your medicine. Medicines give temporary relief but they wonât reverse the condition or prevent it from getting worse.

If you have a bunion as a result of underlying arthritis, your GP may prescribe specific medicines to treat this.

Prevention of bunions Wearing tight, high-heeled shoes may make bunions worse. You can ask an orthopaedic surgeon or podiatrist for advice about your footwear. He or she will probably advise:

making sure that the toe of your shoe is wide enough to prevent your toes from being forced together â the widest part of your foot should be in the widest section of your shoe
choosing shoes with a low heel and a wide toe box where you can wiggle your toes comfortably
shoes with adjustable fastenings such as laces, buckles or straps that hold your feet inside your shoe
using soft insoles in your shoes as shock absorbers

Any good track sneakers under $49.99? and where to buy them?

Tick Me Of

Answer
No. You get what you pay for. In running shoes, the lower the price, the lower the technology. Shock is transferred through a cheap shoe into the wearer's joints, causing fatigue and pain. I personally won't run in a shoe that costs less than $100.00 It is well worth it to pay more, and you're more likely to want to run tomorrow if your joints don't hurt as a result of your run today.

Visit "Sports Authority" and get a shoe that fits your running style (pronator, under pronator, over pronator, etc.). If you get one that doesn't, you'll regret it.

I am just starting out and I have been recommended to go to Showtimedanceshoes.com and they have a really wide selection of brands /prices... I don't mind spending over $100.00 but is there a difference in the quality? Should I just stick to the $80.00 pair for now for practice?

Answer
I like Very Fine or Go Go Dance. They run under $60.

If you're just starting out, get something less expensive until you decide what type of shoe you like or if there's a dance style you want to pursue (smooth or Latin, or swing, or Argentine tango).
If you're a woman, you might decide on a higher or lower heel, a more tapered heel, open toe or closed toe, etc.

How long before you can run after meniscus surgery?

JenEricRal

I am debating having surgery for a torn meniscus. (Superiorly surfacing oblique tear in the posterior horn of the medial mensicus, to be exact.)

I can run and do most things pain free, but I have a lot of pain in the back of my knee with deep flexion. I cannot squat, sit "indian style," or cross my left ankle over my right knee. It makes simple things like squatting down to tie my son's shoe or clipping my toenails difficult.

I did not have the pain until I started my pt/recovery for ACL reconstruction in the same knee.

I have had two major surgeries in the last 18mo. I am ok with surgery, but I do not want to go back to square one with my running AGAIN! I am so over recovering from surgery and going to physical therapy...LOL!

1) How long before I can start running again if I have a miniscectomy?

2) Is there a risk in putting off the surgery?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
The recovery from a meniscus surgery is a lot faster than recovery from ACL surgery. However, mensicectomy is hardly performed anymore. Rather, they usually perform an arthroscopic debridement to "smooth out" the tear. Preservation of the mensicus is helpful in the long run. Therapy is often done in weeks rather than months. It's a rather simple procedure and post operative recovery is mainly focused on restoring range of motion and general strength...you do not get as big of a shut down in muscular function as you do with ACL repair. Yet, running needs to be introduced gradually in accordance to the guidelines established by your surgeon. At the very earliest, running might be able to be resumed in 4-6 weeks, however, your surgeon may have other preferences based on what he/she sees in there.

I can't say that putting off the surgery will necessarily put you at any risk...but I suppose it is possible to tear it further requiring a larger piece to be debrided which could permanently alter the mechanics of the joint.

Good luck

ACL Rehabilitation and Running?

Sidney

I had an ACL repair on my left knee this past May, I was supposed to be starting my first day of Basic Training on May 13, but had surgery instead. I'm just now being able to run, but it's still hurts when I make too hard of an impact with my left leg. What are some things I can do to help alleviate some of the pain but still be able to run so I can get back in shape for the military?

Answer
I had reconstructive knee surgery April 4 and was just cleared to run again two weeks ago. It hurt for me at first too. I actually stopped running and started doing work in the pool for about a week and a half. I went to the deep end and while wearing flippers, I would tread water for 5 minutes each day. It got my leg stronger and let it feel used again, which was a big help.

Anyways, after my week in the pool, I started running again. It was a lot better than before, but still not ideal. I ended up buying new running shoes that were shock absorbent and supportive*. That worked amazingly for running on both trails and pavement. Luckily for you, the military doesn't require much in order for you to pass PT. The running distance is 2 miles and for women, I'm pretty sure you need to come in under 20 minutes. It isn't hard at all :)

*In case you were wondering, I bought a pair of Brooks Ravenna 3. DO NOT get Nike Pro's. Those are really crappy as far as regular use goes because they have terrible support and are basically just a fashion shoe. Also, when buying running shoes, make sure there is about a centimeter and a half gap between your toes and the end of the shoe. If the shoes fit "just right," your toes will hit the end of the shoe while you run and your toenails will get black from bruising and end up curling inward against your toe.

What is wrong with me? Should I carry on seeing a psychiatrist or not?

Konstan

Hello,

So i've been seeing doctors for the past 2/3 years (i'm currently 14) or so now regarding self harm, and recently started visiting a psychiatrist (who i have visited once) at CAMHS. Over the course of the past year at the least, I've been showing symptoms of what you'd probably call a mental illness, or as I prefer, a mental disorder of type. I was self harming in March of 2012 - December 2012 then from March 2013 - September 2013 and recently relapsed.

I moved into a new house in late 2011, early 2012 (which i have again, moved recently) and i almost immediately showed absolute fear of the bedroom i was staying in for the first 2-4 days. BUT I am not saying this is at all to do with the house i was living in at the time since i had experienced the same at previous homes during earlier childhood.

Anyway, I started hallucinating, Auditory and visual hallucinations that is. While i was starting to develop these symptoms, they weren't very intense but as time went on, they were. I would hear two main voices, one was male, the other female. The female was nice to me, whereas the male was horrible, telling me to hurt myself and those around me, calling me worthless and stupid. As for the visual hallucinations, I would see shadows which nobody else had seen, I would see my little sister stood in my room with a blood-covered knife. She was asleep on the floor above me, so it couldn't have been 'real'.

My past contains early experience with bullying and friendship issues. My biological dad left me when I was weeks next to months old. My sister's biological dad (who also left, due to being sectioned) suffered from schizophrenia, not that there is a connection there, but that's always interesting, right? He would slit my mum's throat and try to kill her as well as himself.

An early memory I have always remembered is that whenever people were at my door, whether that be to bring post or to visit, I always saw a shadow man with a dog, they made me feel threatened and targeted. I always used to run faster than ever into the kitchen, where I would be found hidden underneath / behind furniture shaking. As a young child, I was already scared of my own life and the things I was seeing and nobody else was.

I've had some rather bad experiences during class, one time in french class, i was doing my work as i do and i suddenly started hearing the voices again. I suddenly felt the urge to cry but i kept it in, people were asking me what was wrong and i wrote "im sick of acting like everything is ok when its really...not" and i was then sent out of the classroom to see my school nurse then to see my school counsellor the next day. I also had an argument in p.e, which resulted in breaking down, being in tears and telling my teacher that "i cant do anything right so dont expect me to be able to play for this team".

Sorry if this has been long or confusing but i really need advice. My first doctor told me It was hormones, the second told me it was depression, the third, bipolar, the fourth and last schizophrenia / schizoaffective. When i saw the psychiatrist at CAMHS, she told me i had no mental disorder and we left it at that, i was upset because of my experiences and how someone could just tell me after all of these assumptions and ''diagnosis'' from other doctors, there was nothing wrong with me?

If you were in my shoes, would you carry on getting "help" and seeing the psychiatrist or not? I feel helpless and im on the edge of giving up looking for answers.

Note: I've considered suicide and lately i've been planning overdosing if that makes any difference.
I also have problems leaving the house, I will NOT leave the house unless it's absolute necessary. Otherwise, I will refuse to do so.

Answer
The last psychiatrist simply did not know what he/she was talking about. That sounds like schizoaffective or schizophrenia. There is no need to kill yourself at this point in your life as things can definitely get better. The average person does not suffer in the way you do which means that it is definitely a mental illness. Once you have the proper medication you will not have the auditory or visual hallucinations anymore and the strange feelings will go away. It's hard to believe but it will.

Society thinks that every part of our body can get sick, but not the brain? I am mentally ill and I thought it would never get better, but within a week of having the right medications my mood swings, rage attacks and racing thoughts were gone.

Once you're on an anti-psychotic drug, the chemical inbalance can be fixed and you can lead a normal life, so don't give up hope now. Go see a different psychiatrist and write out a clear list of your symptoms. When they started, what they are like, if you suffer depression/anxiety/mania, and your family mental illness history. Good luck.

Is it possible to have a low ejection fraction and feel great?

Eric

I am a 37yo male, smoked for 21 years (quit about 2 months ago). My heart rate at rest would sometime speed up to around 90-100BPM. I have also been a heavy drinker for about 5 years. I've decided it is time to clean things up, eat healthy, cut my risk factors and have things checked out.

I started excercising after the 1st of the year, 2012. I will also note that I am not new to excercise, I have done it, lifted weights, played racquetball my entire adult life. So, after I started excercising again, I feel great. My heart is not pounding anymore, I'm able to go strongly on the treadmill, bike and elliptical, keeping my heart rate around 130 for 20 minutes. I can also go harder for the last minute, topping around 180 if not a little more.

I went to my family doc early on, before the new year. They said I needed to see the cardiologist due to LOW heart rate. My resting heart rate, back when I was younger, excercising a lot, would drop into the 40s, and I felt fantastic. One of my friends also experiences this. So, things are getting better with excercise, but I still want to see the cardio and have the stress test done to check things out. During the test, it took me 11 minutes to get my heart rate up to 155bpm. He says that I show signs of a possible blockage and that he wants to run a cath. Also mentions signs of a low EF. OK, I haven't been exactly eating very healthy, so let's do this and get it fixed if necessary.

We run the cath and find no blockage but that my ejection fraction is around 30%. He's put me on meds, carvedilol 3.125mg 2x/day, lisinopril 10mg 2x/day, mexiletine 150mg 1x/day. I actually feel worse now that I've had this done than I did before. I am experiencing cough, some dizziness last night, and shortness of breath which I have NEVER experienced, even with all those years of smoking.

I work at the post office and have for 14 years, most of which is on a walking route, just to give a little more background.

I have already talked to one of the docs nurses, and she is going to talk to him. I am looking for some input from some experienced doctors on what exactly may be going on with me. I've always been one that believes in using how you are feeling as your guide, and if I stop these meds and continue on my excercise regime, I will feel better than I have in a long time.

Answer
First off, stay with your goals of quitting smoking and drinking. That stuff is absolutely horrible and belongs nowhere near one's daily activities. I'm confused by your resting heart rate, saying it would be in the 90-100 range. Then say it would be the 40's. These must be from 2 different time periods. Either way, they won't do anything for the 90's. Same for the 40s. They'll just mark it down as being in the 40s and monitor it for now on. Then administer medication later on.

I wasn't there for the stress test so I really can't consult too much on that. But it's fantastic that you lasted 11 minutes for the stress test. Usually, we get 8 mins and just call it good. I'm kinda curious what your ECG looked like as it was showing a possible blockage. Good to hear the angiogram came back OK for you.

Now about that ejection fraction of 30%. That is significantly low. You have to had experienced some drowsiness or tired. I have had patients with EF of 20-25% and they struggled to lift a finger.

However, since you feel fine. If I were in your shoes, I would continue the medication. Stay the hell away from smoking/drinking. And maintain the excellent exercise regimen. Do not stop taking the medication until you consult your doctor. If you maintain the exercise, the exercise will reduce the need for the medication.
