How much would a good set of Parkour or Free Running training equipment cost?

Marcus

I've recently gotten into Free Running but practicing it is leaving me in some painful spots and leaving health issues because of my lack of skill. If I could find some cheap equipment it wold help a lot! If I could get a website or a price that would be great!

Answer
If you looking to build something to vault over I would suggest looking at http://sturdymade.com/.

But in truth parkour doesn't require any equipment (that ironically includes shoes). If you are going to get shoes don't go for high prices athletic shoes. Focus on shoes that have a solid single piece sole. (http://www.knowobstacles.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/traction.png) instead of bits and pieces that break off easily (http://www.playoffshoes.com/images/LeBron%20VI%20Mens%20Basketball%20Shoes%20in%20gray%20White.jpg). Also avoid anything with a high heel (http://www.sneakerfiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/nike-basketball-spring-2010-preview-3.jpg).

A lot of people train barefoot though. But if your going to go that way very slowly work your way up to it. Listen to your body and your fear.

I personally trained the first 5 years of parkour in a pair of crappy old vans that cost me $15 at a yardsale. I still to this day have no clue how they lasted that long. Either way I hope that helped.

Where can I find inexpensive running shoes?

My friend is interested in running track in the NCAA for his Division 3 college, but he can't afford to spend $80-100 on running shoes. He looked into the Nike, Brooks, and New Balance wear testing programs, but they don't allow NCAA athletes to participate. I was wondering whether there's any chance someone knows of other relatively inexpensive options. Thanks.

Answer
Try places like Kohls and JC Penny (these would be best--as a college athlete i've gotten plenty of shoes from here that have lasted me many of miles), maybe marshalls or like a tjmax (they usually have slim pickings though) and you can get good quality shoes for less. Check the clearance racks at places like sports authority and dicks.

Also, if you can shop online you should try eastbay.com they usually have really good deals.

What are good running shoes for beginners?

Are there good running shoes at a reasonable price? Also what type of socks do I use? Any help is appreciated!

Answer
I agree on Asics or Brooks. I used to wear adidas and Nike, but I've been wearing Asics for the last 3-4 years and I just bought by first pair of Brooks this year...what a difference. Much more comfortable! The best thing to do is go to a running shoe store and have them analyze your foot...they will fit you in a shoe designed for your foot type.

INDIRA G

It's offseason for my football team and we are conditioning now. Lately I have noticed that as soon as I put on my running shoes, I almost instantly get shin splints, ankle pain, and knee pain. The pain increases when I actually start jogging or sprinting. Could this pain be caused by my running shoes? I have been considering buying minimalist shoes (Vibram) or maybe even Zigtechs to get rid of the pain. Basically, are my current, normal Avia shoes the cause of pain?

Answer
Hi Indira,

It is quite possible that you are an overpronating runner and require a shoe that will keep your feet from rolling inwards. When you overpronate, you put extra stress on your shins and ankles which causes the shin splints you are experiencing.

For a better explanation see:

http://www.runpals.com/buy-running-shoes.html

Luckily about 45% of runners are also overpronators and your shin splints can be easily fixed. A couple of my favorite shoes for moderate overpronators are:

1) Asics Kayano - one sweet shoe
http://www.runpals.com/asics-kayano.html

2) New Balance 1226 - an aggressive trainer good for football
http://www.runpals.com/new-balance-1226.html

3) Nike Lunarglide 2 - awesome lightweight shoe to keep you fast
http://www.runpals.com/nike-lunarglide-2.html

Check out these options and see which you like best. All these shoes will definitely help your shin splints so you can focus on enjoying football!

Best of luck!

best running shoes to train for a marathon image

ricko

Actually, I have had my current running shoes for 7 months only and they feel fine but I am training for a marathon so I dont know if I should just go ahead and change shoes now just in case. No current problems with the shoes I have now but of course I am worried that they may be worn out by the marathon which is still a month and a half away.

Answer
Not really.
First of all, if you've trained in the same pair of running shoes, they may very well be worn out by the time you get to the Marathon. Thus, if you start using a new pair a month ahead of time, they will be properly broken in by the time Marathon Day arrives.
Remember that old shoes will not have the same foot protection as newer ones. When running 26.2 miles, you NEED that protection!

As a rule, running shoes are generally worn out by the time they reach 500 miles. It is not worth the risk to run a marathon in shoes that are 500 miles old.

By the way, which marathon are you planning to run?

Good luck, and good running!

What is the best running shoe for an under pronator with high arches?

blue_eyd_g

I am training for a marathon and plan to put a lot of miles on my shoes. I have trouble with my Achilles tendon occasionally, especially if my shoe doesn't have sufficient shock resistance. I also suffer from Plantar Fasciitis, which only bothers me in the morning when I wake up. The pain is less frequent when I have better running shoes. I don't want to spend a fortune but I am willing to spend up to $140. Thanks!

Answer
Shoes, with something about foot pronations. (Running Shoes)

Food for thought:

Information about some running shoes and spikes for hardcore runners:

Key for running shoes -

The better the shock absorption is the better the shoe is. Whenever possible, it is best to try them on before a purchase.

An ideal shoe will fit your foot like a slipper. Your running shoes are the key to staying injury free. Knowing how to use them will enhance your speed. You can wear any type of shoe you want for training in. But you should have a second pair of shoes just for racing in.

Oversize Trainers To Improve Your Speed -
The best type of trainer to wear is one that is either a half or full size too large for your feet. Buy a high quality cushion inset sole and place it in the shoe. This gives your feet added shock absorption protection. This could be a big help against Shine Splints. If one foot is longer than the other, buy the trainers based on the longest foot.
Except for hurdlers practicing their hurdle form, use this shoe for all of your running practices, including high speed sections. When you change shoes for races, you will find that your feet feel light and that your race time results are constantly on the speedy end of your speed range.

Shoes For Racing In:
A racing shoe (flats or spikes) that properly fits your foot and used for race purpose only, will enhance your speed. These shoes are normally very light but do not support your feet like trainers. You can make many brands of racing shoes feel very comfortable for use without soaks by placing a thin, soft cushion, flat insole in it. Replace the insoles when they begin to show signs of wear or when they are flat in your impact area. They can be bought in some grocery stores. If you use arch supports, place it in your racing shoe too. If one foot is longer than the other, buy this pair of shoes based on the shortest foot. However, if the toes on the longer foot are knuckling up in the shoe, then the shoes are too short - get a longer pair.

Hurdler shoe issue:
Shoes play a huge part of helping a hurdler be fast, especially in the short distance hurdles. This is not practical, but hurdlers need three pairs of track shoes. They need their proper foot fitting racing spikes, they need a pair of proper fitting running shoes for hurdle work practices only and, they need their oversize comfortable running shoes with extra cushion protection for all other running activities.

Wearing Spikes To Train In:
There are times when using spikes in a training section is very important to the athlete. Sprinters, hurdlers, pole vaulters, javelin throwers; long, triple and, high jumpers should wear their spikes when trying to calibrate their steps and starting block position. Once the measurements have been established with your spikes on, take them off and put on your trainers. Use your trainers to find the location of your established starting points. The order of finding your points should be with spikes first and then with trainers, never the other way around. This is because trainers vary too much in size, shape and, length for the same size foot - change your trainers and you change the deminsion of your foot. For this group of people, knowing how to find your precise starting points with your racing shoes on, assures you a consistent range of high end results for your discipline.

Living in Canada compared to living in the United States? What are the pros and cons of both?

best running shoes vancouver image
Q. I live in Alabama, US. I've been thinking of moving to Canada when I got older, preferably somewhere where I could easily visit America from time to time. But the location really doesn't matter as long as I would live well.

Wondering if I should actually do it when I got older. What are the pros and cons of living in America? Canada?

Answer
I've never been to Alabama, but I sorta grew up in California (until I was 8). And then I moved to Canada because of my parents' jobs.

I personally love Canada. Can't tell you which city I'm from, but Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal...are the three cities that attracts most immigrants. Those three cities (especially Toronto) are very diverse and close to the states. Toronto is close to New York. Vancouver is close to Seattle..etc.

Here are some things I like about Canada (pros):
- free health care..lol (and it's not as bad as what most americans think)
- the education system is quite similar in all provinces, and cities. Unlike in the states where each city varies greatly.
- not much social class division
- since it's so diverse (especially Toronto), you get some of the most diverse (and best) restaurants in the world.
- no death penalty! we are very strong on human rights.
- if you decide to have children (or have children already), they will be somewhat bilingual (it is mandatory for students to take french up to grade 9, in certain provinces)
-good retirement plans. like pensions for seniors

Cons:
- a major one is the weather. It does get cold and really snowy during the winter. But I love the snow, and I love to ski and skate, so I don't mind it. Skating outside during the night is one of my favourite things to do in the winter.

- you'll need to correct ALL your spelling. lol. Like color=colour ax=axe

- and you'll need to work on your pronunciation for certain words. seriously, canadians don't sound too different from americans. but here's one example...when americans say 'sorry', the 'sor' rhymes with 'far'. But canadians rhyme the 'sor' with 'or'.

- you'll also need to relearn some object names.
tennis shoes/sneakers=running shoes
soda=pop
shades=blinds
baggage=luggage
college=university
10th grade=grade 10

- oh, and everything is a lot more expensive here than the states. when the dollar was on par with the US, things were STILL so much more expensive!!!!!

you say you might come move to Canada when you're older. Do you mean like when you get to university age? Or like old old? Like after you retire?

come to Canada! take a vacation here and see if you like it.

Seattle locals: Put yourself in the shoes of an outsider coming to town to visit. What would you do in 4 days?

whosajigga

starting at the airport and knowing everything you do about the city. What hotel would you go to? would you stay in the same hotel every night or move around to different parts of the city? where would you go for breakfast, lunch and dinner each day? where are some non-tourist places you like to do that you could not miss if you were there on vacation? what surrounding areas would it be a shame to miss? Canada? Beautiful islands? Where would you go, what would you do?

Coming into town the last week of Jan and we would like an insiders guide to the city. Any assistance would be appreciated! Thanks!

Answer
Upon arrival, get your bags and make your way across the parking garage to the new link light rail. $2.50 and about 40 minutes later you'll be in downtown Seattle.

Choose a hotel in downtown. The options there range from the Green Tortoise Hostel with shared rooms to the Four Seasons or Fairmont Olympic. Whatever you choose, I'd stay in downtown Seattle. There is a "ride free" bus zone during the daytime that will get you around downtown, and most other places you will want to visit you'll be able to get there directly on the bus from downtown.

Breakfasts: Here are some of my favorite stops. You can check the bus schedules at http://tripplanner.kingcounty.gov/ to get bus schedules.

Mae's Phinney Ridge Cafe - north of the zoo in Phinney Ridge
Dish Cafe between Fremont and Ballard
Le Pichet in downtown (French style)
5 Spot in Queen Anne
Macrina Bakery in Belltown

There are also espresso stands and coffee shops on literally every street corner. If you want to grab a cup of joe and a pastry you can do that anytime and just about anywhere.Top Pot Doughnuts is downtown and on Capitol Hill and are worth looking up.

Lunch and dinner depend a lot on your tastes, and what neighborhood you are in when mealtime runs around.

What to do? Plan on a ferry ride (Bainbridge Island run is a nice destination). The top of the Space Needle is a great view on a nice day (skip it if it's raining or foggy). You can also get a great view from the top of Smith Tower or the Columbia Tower. Pike Place Market is great. Go on a weekend day for a bigger vibe (larger crowds) and more of the day craft vendors. Weekday will be a bit more mellow but will still be intersting and fun.

What else would I do in the wintertime? I'd probably go wander through the EMP, Experience Music Project at Seattle Center. Mid-Week would be best. The top floor is set up with instruments and sound rooms where you can fiddle around with music, and you want fewer crowds for that.

If you have a car, Snoqualmie Falls is a gorgeous waterfall. Mt. Rainier is an all day trip, so go only if you are willing to use an entire day. The San Juans are fantastic, and are also an all day (or even overnight) trip. If you choose to go overnight, choose one island such as San Juan or Orcas and don't try to get to multiple islands. The ferry ride itself is a couple of hours each way, plus the drive to Anacortes. The Islands are sleepy this time of year but still nice.

Many will suggest going up to Canada. Again, it's a full day trip, you'll need your passport for the border crossing. Time to drive to Vancouver is about 3 hours plus whatever wait for the border crossing. Usually going into Canada isn't too bad, but the trip back can have anything from almost no wait to 3+ hours so be prepared.

Looking forward to seeing what else gets suggested!

I got some advice that said you should get new running shoes every couple hundred miles..... is this true? or is that what the shoe companies tell you so you'll buy more shoes. I have a pair of running shoes I got years and years ago. I have no idea how much mileage they have, but they feel fine.

Answer
mileage really wont matter unless your over 800 miles on a pair. What matters is the midsole and tread. Remember, most shoes have been sitting on the shelf for about a year before you get them. Once they are exposed to the elements, the midsole will start to harden and the tread wear down. Usually 6 months exposed to the elements and you'll start to notice the difference.

I'm an over weight teenager. I currently weigh 136 ibs. and i'm 5'1. I'd like to loose a few pounds before i start highschool because i'm very self conscious about my appearance and i'd like to fit into a size 0,1,2or 3 in jeans again. What are some good tips on becoming a jogger? What supplies do i need?(Obviously running shoes and a workout outfit. but any other things?) Please help. Thank you so so much.

Answer
Hi

In order to become a jogger you will need to build it up first, meaning: if you try right away to start jogging for a couple of miles, you will not survive. you need to start small: for the first week start with a brisk walk ( try a park where you have a neat path ) and when you start feeling that your heart is beating faster you can pick up the pace and start jogging, I'm warning you though, you will be out of breath after a minute or so, but thats ok, slow down and keep walking. after a week or more of doing this, you wil notice that you're able to jog for longer, and slowly but surely you wil soon be jogging like a pro!!!

Good luck! and like I said : Don't push yourself too hard in the begining, it won't help

Are Adidas ReFlex Training Shoes good for running?

<3 Thingg

I am trying to get into running. I am clearly no expert on running shoes ant etc. As I am also on a budget, I found a cute and comfortable pair of Adidas ReFlex Shoes at Kohl's. They were with all of the other running shoes and cost a mere $39.00. I assumed the were running shoes and bought them.. Apparently they are "training" shoes. What is the difference between "training" shoes and "running" shoes? Will they be okay to run in?

Answer
Training shoes are made for fitness centers and gyms. You use them to bike or lift weights generally. Running shoes have much more stability because of the pounding. You could use them for running, but I wouldn't recommend it. You can get injured and ruin your knees in the long run. You sound more like a jogger so you should be fine, but if you're thinking of 5ks and that kind of stuff, go to a running specialty store. If you race in training shoes, you risk injury, but again, I'm not aware of how that would affect you. If its just a hobby stick with your shoes.

So im basicly giving you all he advice i have lol
have funn running
Well they matter in Cross country BIG time!! because we don'tt run on solid courses, it's always better to have a sturdy light weight running shoe i go to Academy for my shoes and equipment. good store =] some tenis shoes wont have an arch which is good to have when your running =] Um all of my friends really like then Nike but its to heavy for me so i dont i go with a really light weight shoe with a good arch. One of my friends counld only find spikes that were light weight so shes been running on spike shoes with out the spikes she says its the best shes ever ran in. Umm if you like running you should deffinetly try Cross Country its a great sport. and later on in the season definitly try track. It will work on your speed and Cross country will work on your distance. Eat right!!! thats a big important thing. and always remember to drink water all day long before you run! Always have that water bottle in hand! Dehidration sucks! and remember KEEP RUNNING dont stop to walk. it ruins your training. keep going and have goals set to where your mind will be focused on that spot not focused on pain or thirst.
uh thats it pretty much Keep Those Knees up!

What' can I do to get a contract or whatever I need...what type of permits do I need? What does it really take to run a shoe business any ideas ? Please advise me

Answer
It takes a lot of work and dedication. Have someone pass out flyers and business cards with your website. Create videos on www.youtube.com, www.linkedin.com, www.ebay.com and other networking sites.

It is good to market almost everyday to see results and place flyers in your local libraries.

What is this orange, rubbery stuff growing on my patio?

lidiya5

I noticed for the first time today a small section of patio that had little orange things growing from underneath the patio. I ran my shoe across it and it was really stiff and rubbery. Is this some kind of mold or fungus and is it likely to spread? What can I do about it? Thanks!

Answer
Most likely it is slime mold, a weird kind of life form with amazing abilities.
They are amoebae which join together to do things.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slime_mold

These harmless life forms are clusters of single cells (amoebae) clustered together to look like a single entity and which act like what science fiction fans call a 'hive mind'. Or the creature The Blob.
The mold will actually move to eat food, and some of them like finely ground oatmeal.

A search over at YouTube for 'slime mold moving' leads to a number of videos about slime mold. They can solve maze problems, for instance.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkVhLJLG7ug

Obviously you don't want these on your porch, so scrape it up and move it to a rotting log in a nearby forest or w.h.y.
And it might help to scrub the porch with a solution of Borax afterwards, to kill off the mold spores left behind.

I wear an 11 in nike women (my everyday shoes) and was wondering if sugar shoes ran the same or were the sizes different.
If I wear an 11 in nike than what size would I wear in sugar shoes boots?
http://www.alternativeoutfitters.com/clearance.aspx

I am interest in the brown boots half way down the page. Just in case anyone was wondering what boots I am talking about.

Answer
I would suggest looking up the shoes you like on zappos. They have customer reviews that say whether the shoes feel smaller, bigger, or about right in terms of size.

Answer
You want cross trainers. Go to the sporting goods store like Sports Authority and get a fitting, or go to Zappos.com for the reviews. The sizing is important, and you will be happier trying them on. In some cases, the last is too high, or the toe box too small. The shoes may benefit from an extra gel cushion you can purchase from the above for $20.

best running shoes under 50 dollars image

I race on real tracks with my turbophantoms but i need a shoe to wear while hurdling indoors. We run in hallways so the ground is tile and can be pretty slick. I tend to slide with my nike zoom forevers and i dont want to make another bad investment. I am looking to spend under 50 if possible. I need them to be lightweight and to have great traction...thanks for your help

Answer
If your running on tile you should just get flats. I don't know if you'll be able to find any under 50 dollars. Just run in your tennis shoes and when it comes time for the meet wear the spikes.

Where can you find good athletic shoes that are great and look good?

Less than 50 dollars

Answer
Well, I don't think any good ones are under $50 but you can look for Nike Free Run at Academy or Footlocker. They're REALLY good for balance and running long and short distances! I bought a pair that costs $75.

Someone probably does. And they're probably worn out and no longer good for running in them safely, and they've probably been worn for someone else's pronation as well.

Try looking on Ebay.

Which running shoe should i choose?

Crys

Out of the Nike Free and the Reebok RealFlex, which is better?
also, i have pretty flat feet and my knees tend to hurt the most during running (i'm 14 if it matters)
which one is better?
Free to recommend anything else that may be good!

Answer
I would recommend going to your local sporting good store (Sports Authority, Sport Chalet, or similar), and asking the people in the shoe department to help you pick out a shoe that's right for your foot. I did, and I found a shoe that followed me all through my XC pre-season and season. I have flat feet and knee problems too, which is why I chose not to use a running shoe that lacked support like these two do, because it causes more problems for people with flat feet. You'll want a shoe that corrects over-pronation (Having flat feet causes them to tip inward when you walk or run, which puts strain on your knees).

I don't know if this is necessarily true, but several people involved in running (especially XC) have told me that Nike shoes are not great for distance, so if you plan to do distance, be wary of that brand.

That being said, some good brands are Asics, Brooks, and Saucony. I run in Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11, and I love them! It's a lightweight shoe that's stiff along the arch of the foot and has moderate cushioning. Check them out: http://www.brooksrunning.com/Brooks-Adrenaline-GTS-11-Womens-Running-Shoe/1200822A306%2e090,default,pd.html?start=5&cgid=womens-runningshoes-support#ReviewHeader

best running shoes pavement image

William

I run on pavement around my neighborhood. I try to do 3 miles a day. Maybe something with cushion/durability. What are some good mens running shoes?

Answer
My favorite running shoes are Asics, just as everyone else said, but they are not for everyone. There are different types of shoes for different types of runners. It all depends on how you move your feet when you run: do you pronate (turn your foot inward) or supinate (roll your foot outward)? How heavy are you? How often do you run? Are you prone to injury? These are all things to consider when selecting the appropriate running shoe.
The best thing to do is to go to a nearby running specialty store. A worker there should talk with you and watch you run and can reccomend the right type of shoe for you. Good luck with your running.

What are good running shoes for active teens?

Allison

I am a 13 year old girl that is moderately active. I weigh about 95 LBS. if that makes a difference, I run in 5ks and run about 6-7 miles a week. I started seriously running in August of 2012, and have loved it ever since. I have under pronating arches on my feet (high arches). I also do pointe (ballet) and regular dance so my feet are pretty ugly from that. I also play volleyball and are planning to do track. I run on pavement, but sometimes the 5ks are on trails. I had under armor running shoes, but they are seriously lacking cushion and stability. So, the question is: I need new tennis shoes, and based on the information above do you have any suggestions on running shoes I should get? My price range is about $80-$120, but there is room for increases. I would prefer Asics, but I am open to any brands. Thanks for reading this!!!

Answer
Personally, I dislike Nike shoes since they are kinda expensive and they seem rather flashy. :/
But, like Chloe was saying, Asics, Brooks, and Nike are the better and more popular brands out there. From what I have seen of people participating in Track/Cross Country, this is what they generally wear.

If you can, it helps to go to a store that is able to analyze the shoe that is best for you in the store itself. Some stores have treadmills where they analyze your pronation and from that, they go through their selections and find shoes that are best. I think that this would be the best route, being that they will be able to find what is best for you in store.

Price wise, most shoes are within that price range, with only the extremely nice ones being + $120

Good luck (:

Sharp pain in my upper left thigh every time I run, what is it? How do I fix it?

Smileee :)

I can feel it deeply, somewhere between my left thigh and buttock. Maybe just from having so much random.. excess? lol.. fat on my butt? I've been running for over a month now and picked up 5k, but my joints are still cranky in my knees and ankles and this sharp pain? Do I need better running shoes maybe?

Answer
you say you've been having joint problems, have you noticed anything with your leg socket or hip? I kinda doubt it but it but it may be from there...

most likely it's just a muscle problem...quads or hamstrings? make sure you stretch out that leg really well and if you're running and it starts to hurt, try walking it off. try to take note of when the pain comes and when it doesn't.

I had a knew problem during my second year of track. i would feel this paralyzing pain underneath my knee cap (lol) and it was only when I put weight on it. I just remember doing a lot of flexibility stretching and knee bends and stuff. it went away in a month.

how long has it been hurting since? if its been a long time, maybe you should go see a doc. also go it if its really bad or swelling or anything else happens. but if its only been like a week, try and take a rest and do some therapy on your own.

How can I get rid of shin splints forever?

Pascal

I'm so tired of my shin splints! I've done everything I can think off to try to stop them but they keep coming back! I've iced my shins before and after my runs, stretched before and after my runs, take ibuprofen, got the right running shoes, and strengthen my shin muscles with stretching excersizes. Yet somehow they still come back :( How can I get rid of my shin splints FOREVER?

Answer
Hey, I feel your pain! I had done running for about 6 years finally after i stopped Running for County, I decided to train. So this would mean I would need to find different trainers rather than spikes!

Rather than getting fitted which is a huge problem with trainers, they can cause effects to shin splints, because of different shock absorbers and loading rates whether we run using different sides of our feet.

So be sure to check whether your trainers that you are running in are either too small or could be too big for your feet, this is why you should get them fitted for use so they they try to minimise a risk of joint injury.

I still suffer with shin splints, another way you could help minimise the risk, perhaps to rest up for a few weeks and apply ice for 20minutes every 4 hours.
I found that it was good to warm up the shin and leg muscles using a vaseline substance to keep them warm throughout stretching.

What are some popular namebrand shoes for teen girls?

right now in my school, the most popular shoes are uggs and sperry's. i have sperry's, and not the uggs but i'm not getting those cuz winter is almost over.

anyways, at the most, i wanna spend $200 on a pair of shoes. its for me, a teen girl. i want it to b name brand.

so, what are some popular name-brand shoes?
BONUS: also, what are the most popular shoes in YOUR school/work?

Answer
Sperry's are very in where I live, as well as UGGs. Other fashionable shoes include converse, keds, coach shoes, custom designed aldlo boots, over the knee boots, riding boots, fringed boots, ed hardy shoes, tory burch ballet flats, Sanuk shoes (love), leather flip flops, rainbow (the brand) flip flops, and basically any really cute and girly high heels (think Charolette Russe and Forever 21).

Nike sneakers are also always in, but they aren't exactly fashionable. They are more for gym, zumba, hip hop dance class, and running track.

How long until I start seeing results?

Munchkin

I began running today. I did 2 miles in about 25 minutes, will this help me see results or should I try going for a bigger distance and longer times?
Any other suggestions? I'm 19 years old, 5'0, and 135 pounds. I used to be a cheerleader, so I really want to get back into shape.

Thank you! :)
Also, how long until I start seeing results? And how often should I run?

Answer
Ok, first off, I am going to say that I have been in your shoes before.

After I stopped doing gymnastics my metabolism slowed down and I lost some of my fitness. All this year I have been working out again and eating healthy and am in the best shape I have ever been.

Secondly, yoiu can not ex[ect results right away, people that expect results right away often give up, or do some really unhealthy workout and food reginem programs to see results fast. PLEASE don't be one of those people. Give it time and keep at it, you will see results.

Now that I've said that.....two miles is a good distance, but yoiu should very the distances you run to give variation to your workout(you will see more results because yoiur body won't get set into a set pattern, variation is important). Also, try things other then running such as a cardio workout video to gain back strength, agility, and cardio endurance all at once. Strength is important to balance out the cardio of just running. Look at taking a zumba class maybe to throw variety into yoiur workout.

There are also so many workouts you can do at home if you dont have a lot of time, to work on toning muscles to get lean, healthy muscles. If you want some great interval workouts I have done in the past at the gym or with friends that I work out with you can email me. (hansenana@yahoo.com)

Give it time to see results, but if yiou keep a healthy diet and have a variety of workouts you do, you will be on your way to the fitter you, that you are looking for.
But always remember that you are at a healthy weight so don't over push yourself and defiently dont eat less then yoiu should!!! Trust me, eating enough if just as important to seeing results as excersising itself. Oh and start working out maybe three or four times a week anywhre from 25-45 minutes

Hoped this helped!!

Is it okay to run on the treadmill in basketball shoes?

best quality athletic shoes image

Ellalynn

I bought a really high quality pair of basketball shoes this previous October for basketball, and now that our school basketball season has ended and club basketball won't be starting until early April, I'll need to keep in shape.
The only other pair of athletic shoes I have are old, outdated, and uncomfortable to wear, so I'd much rather wear my new basketball shoes-

But is that okay? Will it mess up my legs?

Answer
Yes you can do pretty much anything with basketball shoes, I wear them for hiking in snow, playing tennis, lifting weight, go to parties, etc... Those are made to withstand a lot of kind of movement in a basketball game so they are very versatile.
However I don't recommend you go running to keep in shape, it's an very "old" and wrong type of feeling. Do some strength work with squat, push up, pull up and your condition will be much better than running on a treadmill. If you run, do sprinting, those are much better. I also listed here some principle that you might be interesting in on the source, check it out.

Whats the difference between these shoes? and which do you think are right for me?

anime frea

So i was at kohls and i was looking at athletic shoes for myself and the labels said
running shoes
cross training shoes
high performance shoes
what is the difference between the three?

oh and what do you think is the right shoes for me? when i workout i like to do a variety of different things some walking running kickboxing tae bo dancing high low aerobics etc?

Answer
Running shoes are specifically designed for forward and backward motion and have extra cushioning to help your body absorb the shock of running.

Cross trainers are built for any type of motion. Forwards, backwards, and side to side. They are not the best for any given activity, but are the most versatile.

High performance shoes are best used if you are going to be heavily training as an athlete. These are typically more expensive shoes and offer the best quality.

I recommend cross trainers, definitely! It sounds like they will be just what you need for the activities you do, and will be the most affordable! If you are exercising regularly, just make sure to replace your shoes often because worn down shoes can cause injuries!

ouboomerso

I hate it, I've watched it forever
It was very sad. I loved the speech that Vicki made.

Answer
The day of soaps are just about over.........and fans????

WHY watch these stupid azz shows that replaced your beloved soaps....you are only helping the ratings.........ever notice how "The Chew" runs over into the next soap so you MIGHT get hooked and watch their show........seriously would you want to eat anything these disgusting people would make? especially the guy with the red shoes, pony tail and wearing short pants, the guy needs to cover up...could be a lot of hair in that food.

If you wanted to learn how to cook you should have watched Martha Stewart oh wait she got canceled.

This is why soaps are going off the air...as fans we don't have a voice... no one cares....poor Dorian/Robin didn't even want to stick around to the end.

What is the process of ad sales on radio?

Vandar

As a business owner, how would i choose the right station? How do the big guys (like Coke & Bud) do it?

Answer
Bud and Coke will do it differently than you should; or could. They use huge national/worldwide ad agencies (often more than one) to drill down the ratings, set the goals, invite the stations they've selected to make presentations, then place varying portions of the budget with those who meet their criteria (including their cost estimates). They usually do this on an annual basis.

Obviously that's not for you.

My best quick suggestion for you is to be acutely aware of who comes into your place of business. Don't be shy about asking them if they made the decision to come in, or their parents (or someone else) sent them specifically to your place. Perhaps it was a sort of joint decision?

Then question them about their listening preferences: both the actual customers and any who influenced them. Keep track of this on a legal pad or computer file. Once you've got a good idea of the TYPE of station(s), see if you can get more specific as to which station(s) seems to be coming up most often. Seems like the obvious choice, right? Time to call them?

If you are in a fairly large city (Top-100), no, not just yet. Go to: www.radio-info.com
click on Ratings, then your city (if it's there). You'll get an idea of how the stations in your area show up in the ratings. PLEASE remember, these are based on only one of the many criteria available over the past year: persons 12 years and older.

You have no info on times of the day, age groups or any of the other important information that the full report reveals - but it's a start. The number one station may not be appropriate (nor financially efficient) for you. You may have to drop down the list a bit in order to make the budget work. More important than how many people listen to the station is the type of people - and do you have enough budgeted to garner the "frequency" to make a radio ad schedule work.

Now, dertemine how much money you can afford on a monthly basis to spend on radio advertising. Understand it will probably not be immediate, but with consistency and frequency, you should get results.

Now, armed with information, it's time to call the station(s). If you have a fellow business owner who is advertising on the station you've selected, ask if s/he is happy with their sales rep. If so, call that rep and arrange for him or her to visit you at your business. If not, ask for the local sales manager - don't be shy about telling that person the type of salesperson you'd be comfortable with, so you have a good relationship with someone who has enough experience to know what they are doing, but is not the #1 salesperson so you don't get their full attention.

When making your appointment(s), make sure there is someone else there so you don't have to interrupt your meeting to take care of customers. Or arrange for the meeting to be before or after hours.

There's so much more, but I'm running out of space and time. Remember, the right people, the right station and sufficient FREQUENCY to make it work.

One more thought, if you are a one-location business and if you're in a small town, radio's fine. If your a one-location business in a big city and it's fairly common merchandise you sell, radio may not be right for you. If you have one shoe store in Houston, use a local coupon flyer/magazine. But if you're the only Go-Kart track in town: go for it.

Good luck!

-a guy named duh
