Best Basketball shoe for big men?

Steve R.

Price isn't really an issue since I got a discount coupon from my friend.

Answer
Get a pair of jordan 14s or 3s. Both have very good ankle support and are comfortable to run in. Also, the 14s give you more traction and the 3s are crazy comfortable. Most people go with 14s because they are generally known as a great sneaker but dont dismiss the 3s.

Does anyone know of any good Zumba shoes for men?

Joseph Tru

I was wondering if anyone knows where to find good Zumba shoes for men. I'm a size 13 and I can't find any good shoes to dance in.

Answer
You need shoes that are lightweight, give good support, and allow pivoting movements without sticking to the floor. I have used Bloch split-sole dance sneakers. They are fairly narrow (they use a woman's last, no doubt) but come in very large sizes. I wear 12 and found a fit. If these don't work I would recommend a good indoor soccer shoe. I have used Nike lightweight soccer shoes and they work well. I also have used the old-fashioned Reebok Ex-O-Fit trainers, the hightops, and these work pretty well. I tried actual tennis shoes but they seemed kind of heavy for dance-type movements.

Zumba class for someone who has never taken aerobics classes?

megan_79

I want to take an aerobics class and I see that Zumba is all the craze right now. Would that be too much for a beginner? I have never taken an aerobics class in my life. I had a baby a year ago, and didn't lose all of my baby weight until recently. I have lost 20 lbs in the past couple months from doing Weight Watchers and I wanted to incorporate more exercise (right now I am only doing little things like walking and situps). Would Zumba be out of place for me? Do I need to know anything about a specific kind of shoe I should wear?

Answer
I went to a hour long Zumba class yesterday
and boy oh boy it was a lil hard to keep up. It's fun and you'll like the music. Just make sure you wear something comfortable: muscle shirt, stretchy pants, a tennis shoes. It's a good work out, drink plenty of water.

should i run barefoot or with minimalist shoes?

Zachary

I usually run with regular shoes but I would like to get into this, but I don't know whether I should go barefoot or get some should get some minimalist shoes.

Answer
Running barefoot means exactly that.... running barefoot.

Wearing any shoes while running -- even the so-called minimalist shoes -- is not running barefoot.

(in my opinion, they are a joke. I dont care if they have little spaces for your toes, they are still shoes. if you are going to go that route save on the expense and just wear tennies)

New running shoes, considering barefoot running?

SMFW

I'm looking to get new running shoes (obviously). Up until a little bit ago I was decided on getting some stability shoes (I have flat feet) such as Asics 2160s. However, I've been doing some research and came across and article about barefoot running. Also, I read that shoes that are controlling of movement tend to cause more injuries. I don't know how I feel about going completely barefoot, but I'm looking at some shoes that encourage natural movement such as Nike Free Run+. Would I be okay running in shoes without much support with flat feet?

Answer
Information about some running shoes and spikes for hardcore runners:
To improve on your endurance, you need to practice running distances about twice as far as your event.

Key for running shoes -

The better the shock absorption is the better the shoe is. Whenever possible, it is best to try them on before a purchase.

An ideal shoe will fit your foot like a slipper. Your running shoes are the key to staying injury free. Knowing how to use them will enhance your speed. You can wear any type of shoe you want for training in. But you should have a second pair of shoes just for racing in.

Oversize Trainers To Improve Your Speed -
The best type of trainer to wear is one that is either a half or full size too large for your feet. Buy a high quality cushion inset sole and place it in the shoe. This gives your feet added shock absorption protection. This could be a big help against Shine Splints. If one foot is longer than the other, buy the trainers based on the longest foot.
Except for hurdlers practicing their hurdle form, use this shoe for all of your running practices, including high speed sections. When you change shoes for races, you will find that your feet feel light and that your race time results are constantly on the speedy end of your speed range.

Shoes For Racing In:
A racing shoe (flats or spikes) that properly fits your foot and used for race purpose only, will enhance your speed. These shoes are normally very light but do not support your feet like trainers. You can make many brands of racing shoes feel very comfortable for use without soaks by placing a thin, soft cushion, flat insole in it. Replace the insoles when they begin to show signs of wear or when they are flat in your impact area. Insoles and arch supports can be bought in some grocery stores. If you use arch supports, place it in your racing shoe too. If one foot is longer than the other, buy this pair of shoes based on the shortest foot. However, if the toes on the longer foot are knuckling up in the shoe, then the shoes are too short - get a longer pair.

Hurdler shoe issue:
Shoes play a huge part of helping a hurdler be fast, especially in the short distance hurdles. This is not practical, but hurdlers need three pairs of track shoes. They need their proper foot fitting racing spikes, they need a pair of proper fitting running shoes for hurdle work practices only and, they need their oversize comfortable running shoes with extra cushion protection for all other running activities.

Wearing Spikes To Train In:
There are times when using spikes in a training section is very important to the athlete. Sprinters, hurdlers, pole vaulters, javelin throwers; long, triple and, high jumpers should wear their spikes when trying to calibrate their steps and starting block position. Once the measurements have been established with your spikes on, take them off and put on your trainers. Use your trainers to find the location of your established starting points. The order of finding your points should be with spikes first and then with trainers, never the other way around. This is because trainers vary too much in size, shape and, length for the same size foot - change your trainers and you change the dimension of your foot. For this group of people, knowing how to find your precise starting points with your racing shoes on, assures you a consistent range of high end results for your discipline.

Why Are Running Shoes SO Expensive.?.?

Franois

What's the difference on running shoes and some other NORMAL shoes?

I mean while wearing running shoes you don't ****** run faster.

Answer
Running shoes are more expensive for a number of reasons:

1) There's a high demand for running shoes, running is very popular and people want to invest in a good shoe so companies know that they can get more money out of people. The same goes for basketball shoes, I remember a pair of Jordan's I wanted in Middle school that were over $200! But of course there were tons of kids that bought these b/c they were in at the time.

2) Because of this demand people want shoes that are good/great for them. So companies invest tons of money on the newest and best ideas for shoes and in correlation, they have to charge more for all of that time and money spent invested into the shoe.

* You can find shoes for cheaper!
* The best thing to do is to do some research, find a pair you like that are in your price range and research places like (youtube, yahoo, google, running website, shoe review) find these reviews on the shoes you are interested in and then make a choice.
* Stores pressure you into buying shoes b/c that's their mission!
*Just because one shoe worked for another person doesn't mean it will work for you!

HELP need opinion about which running shoe to get?

which running shoe should i get. Im deciding between a pair of nikes or a pair of brooks. Heres a link to a tv commercial of the nikes.

and the brooks

Answer
Go to a running shoe store and say you want running shoes, period. They should have you run in a shoe to see how you run, which would indicate what type of shoe you need as opposed which commercial is more convincing to you or me or anybody. Once they have an idea of what you need they should pull out several models and have you try them for comfort, have you put both pairs on and jog around the store to see which you like best. They should be half a size to a full size larger than your street shoes. If you go to a shoe store and they don't ask to see you run first thing to get an idea of your needs, find another store.
Good luck!

Knee/foot/back pain walking on concrete floors all day. Shoe suggestions?

SunshineEy

I started working at Home Depot a few months ago, and within a month started experiencing knee pain, as well as lower back and foot pain. I assume this is from walking on concrete floors all day. I've tried a few different shoes and insoles but I'm still having problems. I've read lots of guidelines online for how to pick out good shoes, but I REALLY need some specific brand and/or shoe recommendations. I don't want to spend a fortune on them because with my work, shoes are dirtied and sometimes torn within a few hours at work, but I really do need something that will help with this knee pain. I feel 80 and I'm still in my twenties! Anyone who works in a similar environment, on their feet all day, on concrete floors, moving heavy objects around, please help me out here and be as specific as possible. Thank you!

Answer
First of all, you need to probably have your gait assessed. A vast majority of people over pronate (a rolling in of the foot during the heel-to-toe motion). A degree of pronation is wanted, as it allows the arch to "spring" and absorb some of the shock of your body impacting with the floor. Overpronating basically overshoots this tendency, and can result in knee and back pain. You can even exaggerate this motion to see what the extrapolated motion is- purposely roll IN on your feet - you find you become almost knock-kneed. This puts everything from the foot up out of alignment, and can result in back pain in severe cases.

It could also be that your natural tendency is to supinate, or roll out. This causes the same kinds of problems, because again, the foot is unable to absorb impact.

You can tell what your natural gait is by assessing a pair of your old shoes. Put the heels together and assess the gait. A running gait will normally have wear on the outside part of the heel, rolling through the middle part of the foot, and pronating a little towards the end, kind of where your big toe would be (yep.. it really it a great lever!). A walking gait will be a little more mid-foot impact and not so strong on the heel, but you should notice a fairly similar roll-through pattern at the forefoot of the shoe.

Now, as comfy as running shoes are, they may not be the best choice to be in all day if you're literally on your feet. Running shoes are designed with very spongy material that is designed to compress under pressure. Great for short periods, but they can become compressed fairly easily and the kicker is that that material also can take 24-48 hours to bounce back and decompress. Think of taking a sponge and mashing it down.. once the air pockets are compressed, so soft sponge. A running shoe is basically the same. If you like the feeling of a runner, consider getting two pairs and rotating every other day.

A cross trainer may be a better choice, as they also offer a little bit of lateral (side to side) support. They will feel stiffer and not as cushy, but they will be a little less likely to compress through the day, but will offer you a little bit of extra stability. Plus, they will also have a stickier outsole which may help grip on floors.

If you really like the feeling of a running shoe, you could consider getting a trail type shoe, which will have a harder outsole and more dense midsole. In a trail situation, this helps protect against rock brusing and the like, but you'll find they won't compress as much through the day. The tradeoff again is they won't feel as mushy as a running shoe, but they should feel better at the end of the day.

It's hard to suggest a brand without knowing your foot type as far as the gait mentioned above, as well as your preference for fit. If you can provide some information, maybe I can suggest some :) Running shoes (any shoe, really) are quite specific from person to person. Some people swear by one brand - their running partner may spit in anger at the thought of wearing that same brand.

Another quesiton.. do you have to wear green seal shoes?

Can shoes cause knee pain?

MadHarley

At work, I walk for hours on hard flooring, and one day I have terrible knee plain on my right leg only. My old boots were getting uncomfortable so I bought new boots. They are steel toe boots and are 4 lbs. Was it my old boots that causes my right knee pain or can heavy boots cause knee pain.

Answer
No. Pain is something for the knees themselves to make. The problem may be pronounced by what you wear but even that would only happen if something was already wrong with the knees.
It sounds like your kneecap may be giving you this pain. Kneecaps end up having the tendons tighten up when the knee senses pain and that pulls the kneecap up on and into the knee making it hard and painful to bend the knee. It is the most common problem with knees. Here is how to release the knees to get rid of that pain:
Kneecaps:
Do while sitting on a chair with no front cross braces.
While sitting have your leg resting in a stretched mode. Place both your thumbs, side by side, about 2 inches behind the kneecap and press down into your leg and then redirect the pressure a little towards the kneecap. After 30 seconds, slowly slide your foot back and under your chair as far as it will go, release the pressure but hold your foot there for another 30 seconds.
The important part of this is the pressure on the leg, if there isn't enough there this isn't going to take. If you have that problem try it again right away.

How do women walk in high heels everyday?

emma

I wear high heels only on special occasions and during summer i wear only wedges. But other women tend to wear high heels everyday and everywhere. How do they do that? My feet hurts so bad when i walk in heels just in hour.. how other women walk in high heels everyday?

Answer
With high heels other muscles at calves are used then with flat shoes. If this muscles are not trained they fatigue soon what causes hurting feet. If you jog never and try to jog some miles your feet will hurt too. The feet of women that walk daily a nice distance with high heels won't have any fatigue at calf muscles. Very important is also a perfect fit of the high heels, no slip at heel, a toe any that gloves toes enough space. With poor fitting shoes you have problems with flats, bigger with high heels. Also very important is a stable heel, if the heel bends to the side this will cause pain or discomfort when you walk. So you have to train for high heels and invest money for hood quality, then you won't have problems anymore.

I'm looking for some good running shoes. Help?

amii :)

There's SO many options. I need some shoes that are good for going on a jog outside, or on a treadmill.
I'm 16, and I just need some shoes to go for a jog in to get some exercise.
I'm not looking for anything $80, something around $40.

Answer
Shoes matter, especially if you are heavy. They protect your legs from impact stress, and they keep your legs aligned so they develop evenly, and you do not twist your ankles or put undue stress on your knees. Some cheap shoes work fine too, but they tend not to stand up as long.

Pick your shoes by trying on insane numbers of pairs of shoes and jogging around the store in them. Discount shoe stores have just as good a shoes as do athletic shoe stores... but there is no salesman to fit them. Pay no attention to whether they are men or women's shoes... it does not matter. Women's shoes have a narrower heel and lower back than men's shoes... It is your FEET you want to match, not your gender :) If you are a new runner, you will probably want shoes that are a little higher, and provide more ankle support than the ones with the cut-down around the ankle bone. Lightweight and good cushioning are features to look for, and a slight wedge is nice if you plan to be primarily running... Flatter soles are better for aerobics because you will then need cushioning under your forefoot, not just for heel strike.

You will know when you find the right pair, because they will FEEL right. Wear the socks you plan to run in. Go a half size larger that your usual size, because you will be slamming your toes into the front of ones your usual size while you run, and that is not good for your toes... or your mood about running.

SO my advice? Test drive some shoes, take plenty of time to do it, and don't even try on any that cost more than you plan to spend.

Wear decent cotton or cotton/wool socks, and if you get *any* chafing, powder your feet with gold bond. If you get shoes with a removable insole, you can dry them better between runs by taking the insole out... If you don't get a removable insole, stuff them with newspaper after every run. Dry shoes last longer,(and smell better) and so cost less :)

If you get really serious about running, then more expensive shoes start to make sense... But the shoes you will need will depend on what sort of running you get interested in. The best shoes for track, road and trail differ quite a bit, and are NOT the kind of shoes you wear in a gym for weight lifting or aerobics. When you need those shoes, the ones you buy now will be blown out. If you are losing weight, the shoes you buy now will not be the right shape after a couple months anyway (your feet will be different). Go get em then, when you need them, and know what you need them for :)

Feet problems with running and shoes?

Wonder Gua

I'm a heavy, 245 lb man who is 6'2" tall. How can I run without coming home to realize my foot is bleeding?
Um... I'll try out my "running shoes" next time but seriously, I have a problem with sheer body mass and running-related food injury.

Answer
What is causing your foot to bleed? I am not buying that it is just your body mass. Because of your weight, you will probably need to replace running shoes often (every 200 miles or so) but as long as your shoes fit properly (running shoes often times need to be 1-2 sizes larger than regular shoes because of swelling during runs) and are in good shape, you should be fine there.
What part of the foot is bleeding? I would go to a running store. Bring your current shoes with you and have them help you out. They make shoes designed for heavier runners.

Good running shoes for women?

I'm 15 years old, a size 7 1/2 or 8, depending on the shoe brand. I loved my old Asics but they wore out, and that particular shoe style has been discontinued. I've heard that Mizunos are good...any reviews? Anyway, please help!
Sorry I didn't mention this before...Adidas are too wide for my ankles (they're really narrow) and I'm not a Nikes just never fit me for some reason.

Answer
I currently have the Mizunos Wave Rider. They are pretty good. uhm. It really depends on the person and I'd suggest that you go to your local running store, try some different brands, and do a little test run around the store.

Mizunos are comfy and easy to run with, but it always depends on the person.
Goodluck!

What Athletic Shoe Is Best for Workouts? (women's shoe)?

I usually wear my nike cheerleading shoes to workout at the gym, but they aren't the most supportive while running on the treadmill and doing other exercises. Do you have any suggestions for athletic shoes that are:
-Supportive
-Not too clunky (because I always trip on heavy shoes!)
-Possibly have Toning Abilities
Thankyou! I really appreciate it, any brand+model would be good to know:)
I DO NOT WANT SHAPE UPS! haha or any shoes with the obvious toning shape!!!

Budget Running Shoes?

cb_89

Hey everyone, I recently started a walking/jogging routine and plan on doing running in the near future once my legs get used to exercising (I've led a relatively sedentary life until now). I was wondering if anyone could suggest a pair of moderately inexpensive running shoes.

My biggest problem seems to be aching feet, as my current shoes are 2 year old Walmart shoes (I paid 10 bucks for them lol). A shoe with an above-average amount of cushion would be preferable.

In case this information is helpful, I'm kind of a big guy, 6'0" and 220 lbs.

Thanks a lot everyone!

Oh yeah, my price range is probably about 50-85 dollars.

Answer
There is no such thing as a "budget" running shoe, fact is that if you want a decent pair of running shoes your going to pay between 80-100 dollars and buy new pairs every 300-500 miles unless you want to have injuries, which can cost you a lot more then 80-100 dollars, the best thing you can do is get is "value" being the best shoe you can get for you feet at the lowest price. Some people are the "trendy"types of runners that buy the most expensive shoes possible and completely ignore if the shoes actually are right for there feet, then there are the experienced runners that go to a running specialty store and talk to a trained salesman that most of the time is a fellow runner, and they ask them questions like if they are over-pronaters, pronaters, or under-pronaters, if they have high, low or normal arches, what distances the run on a weekly basis, and some times what weight range they are in. They help determine what shoe is right for you, and then you can find the best value out of the many shoes that they show you.

What are the best running shoes?

Isaac Skor

Ok guys, I'm looking for a pair of running shoes that are light, low ankle, and breathable. I've owned two pairs of shoes that I absolutely loved, both by Adidas, Adizero Feather 2 and Climacool Ride (not the fresh ride ones now, just the plain ride). I was able to snag both of these for under 80$. My budget this time however is only going to be 60$. Thanks Guys!

Answer
Personally, my favorite kind of running shoes are asics. I also like brooks and saucony. Brands such as nike and adidas are good, but i feel like because they try to cover all sports, they can't specialize in running.
As for the price point wise, getting them under 60 is do-able. You obviously won't be able to get the newest model, but there isn't much of a difference. I would check footlocker and eastbay websites, they seem to have the selection of shoes at the lowest price (unlike dick's sporting goods). To save money, make sure you look for a coupon code. Also, you can save money on shipping by having the product sent to your local store.
You can also check http://www.firsttothefinish.com/index.asp .They have great prices, but the selection is usually limited.
If I was you, I'd get one of these shoes similar to your climacools: http://www.footlocker.com/product/model:171922/sku:2229790/asics-gel-neo33-mens/black/light-green/?cm=GLOBAL%20SEARCH%3A%20KEYWORD%20SEARCH

Using Coupon Code: LKS1AP57 ( $10 OFF $50+ SITEWIDE)

Hope this helped!(

Would it be more accurate to measure my own bra size?

Girl

I had a bra fitting yesterday where the woman concluded a 32 C fit me nicely. I went in originally because I was doubting my 32 B bra as I didn't fill the cup. She was finding my broad back a puzzle as she said "I was petite there" (ribs) evening bringing me a 30 D option which was too tight on the band and too large on the cup.

But considering that measurements happen while I'm actually wearing a bra couldn't I do it if I found some good instructions?

Answer
Best thing to do is measure yourself. You might ask your friend to help but you don't need to. Best to do this part topless.
Fullest part of the Bust inches - Under the bust in inches = your cup size in inches
36inch - 30 inches = 6 inches

Under the bust = your band size. So if you it's 30 then your band size is 30. If it's an odd number like 29 then you have to go up to the next even number to ge the band size. But you should still do the equation like above with the odd number; ie 36inch - 29inch = 7inches

Each cup size is a one inch higher than the next except for aa which is only on half inch smaller than a A cup. AAA is nothing but a bra made for women that are really small so they feel more normal by having a bra.

'

The first time you get a good fitting bra it does tight. but you can run to fingers along the band and along the straps then your golden. Bras are like shoe and Jeans you need to break them in a bit until that conform to your shape.

Also when your not in the right bra your breast tissue can migrate to your armpits. So you have to scoop that side fat that is really your breast fat into the each cup. Then scoop your boob in the right position and lean froward and jiggle your bits and they land how they are supposed to in the bra. This is something you have to get used to doing everyday.

How can my boyfriend get his daughter back?

Zerzin

My boyfriend has 1 child,a daughter from a short term relationship when he was 18. The girl is now 9 years old and has been living with my boyfriend for the past 6 months. She use to live with her godparents, because her Mama died when she was 4 of cancer. That girl is the most SPOILED kid I have ever seen! She calls my boyfriend Alexei which is his name instead of Papa and she refuses to listen to him!
If he tells her to do something she won't do it and if he tries to force her, she screams like a crazy woman and hits him. He most the time he leaves her alone, but last night he couldn't just let it go. We were back in his bedroom when Jasmine(his daughter) hollered back there and asked if she could go down the street to the corner store.
My boyfriend told her no that he would take her to the store tomorrow. His daughter got quiet and we thought she was still watching TV in the living room, but when my boyfriend called her name about 30 minutes later, she didn't answer. He jumped up, ran to the living room, and sure enough she was gone. She had put on her shoes and jacket and was gone. My boyfriend put on his shirt and shoes and went out to see if he saw her. He did see her...all the way up the block about to cross the 4 way intersection. How he managed to run up there so fast I don't know, but he caught her before she crossed and dragged her little tail back to his apartment.
He was smoking mad and telling his daughter that she had pushed him TOO FAR, he was tired of being nice to her and she repaying him by being a spoiled brat. She wasn't really listening to him until he said she was getting her butt smacked. When she realized he was serious, she went to tears, saying that she wanted her 'other' Mama and Papa(her godparents). He told her that she could cry all she wanted, but she wasn't changing his mind. He dragged her into the living room, because she fought him every step of the way, picked her up and flipped her over his lap at the same time he sat down on the couch.
I stayed outside because I couldn't stand the sound his belt made when it hit her or how she screamed. My boyfriend must have really been pissed, because when he was done with her, he just ordered her to go to bed and get out of his sight. She went to bed and we went to bed later, but this morning we woke up to the Los Angeles County Police in company of his daughter's godparents knocking on our door, saying they were here to remove his daughter immediately pending investigation. The police took his daughter away and handed her over to her godparents who seemed all too eager to take her home with them. They told my boyfriend that he had been reported several times last night for child abuse and was under investigation, so his daughter was being removed to safety maybe permanently.
It's not like he doesn't love her. He battled her godparents for years to gain custody!
He tried hand spanking her. She wouldn't lay still and she wouldn't take her hands away from her bottom whining that her butt hurt, which is kinda the idea, but she made Alexei feel bad and he couldn't really smack her butt properly.

Answer
Alexei should have grabbed his daughter firmly by the wrist and held her over his lap, while he smacked her bad little butt until she cried and begged him to stop. No bruises, just a sore and sorry little girl, who then should've been made to apologize to her Papa.

Ik this sounds crazy but my dream is to go to the nfl as a tailback, but most of the tailbacks you see are around 5'10-6'2. I'm in 7th grade and already 5'9, wear size 14 shoes, and weigh 140. I really don't want to grow over another 3 inches. The highest I would accept is 6'3. But these height predictor test and other things are predicting me to be 6'4-6'6. If I was that size linebackers would get low and blow my chest up. I want to be a quick, fast running back, not a tall one like Brandon Jacobs. I'm really fast, the fastest one in my grade actually, but I can easily get my ankles broke because of how tall I am. Is there any methods I can do to help my height stay average (5'10-6'2). My dad is 5'11 and wears a size 12 1/2 shoe. my mom is 5'9 and wears a size 10 in women's. I dont see why I'm so huge! Please give me some tips and warnings on things that can make you taller. Thanks

Answer
There are ways to stunt your growth. One of my friends is 4'9 the same height as me, but they don't think she'll grow anymore.
1) she doesn't eat properly and doesn't get enough calcium.
2) she exercises loads.

what is your striking point when you run, and what running shoe do you recommend?

I have seen the Newton running shoes, which seem phenomenal, however, I am not a constant avid runner. I mix up my activities with walking and the elliptical. However, a few times a week I like to get out and jog, but nothing too hard-core. Basically, I call it a toe-tap. I'm not really lifting my knees and coming down hard. I just like to keep myself moving through the latter half of middle-age and menopause. Could 'you' recommend a running shoe and why?

Answer
The best shoe for you depends so much on fit. One runner with a wide foot and a shallow arch will have a totally different opinion from a narrow footed deep arched runner. Everyone is different. There are hundreds of shoes and what works best for me may not work best for you.
Of the hundreds of shoes, there will be a few that are really good for you

So, this is what you have to do:
You should go to a good running store, even if you have to drive a while to get there. You can use the Runnerâs World Shoe Store Finder to help you find a nearby store.
http://www.runnersworld.com/store/search/1,7978,s6-240-417-0-0,00.html

Some running stores have experts with whom you can make an appointment. They measure your foot to determine itâs size, your arch, and if you over-pronate or not. They ask you about your running and needs to determine which particular shoes might best meet your needs. Then they let you try them all on and run with them on their treadmills. Usually they have a decent return policy, too.

Keep track of your running and buy new shoes every 400 miles or when they look worn out.

I need comfortable running shoes to be able to run long distances in my own exercise, which is an activity just like sex.

Why doesn't the government mandate that insurance companies provide me with comfortable running shoes?

Running shoes are too expensive, just like contraception is for women who want to sleep around.

Answer
You're not getting what US richclass insurers do...

Proper, modern socialized health care is proffered in every 1st World country -- that is, in every 1st World country except the archaic US. All of these socialist 1st World nations present health care systems ranked higher by WHO than the system in the US -- which is ranked an embarrassingly low 37th in the world. Such socialized health care systems as highly ranked by WHO allow for far less costly health care on top of more and higher benefits.

Much of the exorbitant costliness of US health care is explained by the fact that Americans pay non-producing, non-involved third parties â that is, private insurers â whose only motivations are to earn massive, non-producing profits for US richclass moguls -- and for the only service of providing appointments with health care professionals. With that, consider that people in California pay ten times more for health care than people in Japan, and see the link following: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=89626309.

I've put about 1000 or maybe more miles on these pair of running shoes. I know it's time to get new ones but is it possible to get blisters from over used running shoes? However, I haven't got blisters from these shoes yet.

Answer
oh dear, you should only put in 300-500 miles per pair of running shoes. you can get blisters if you wear the wrong socks or if they're tight. but since they're overused, your shoes must be pretty flat and spacey.

over used running shoes can also give you shin splints, bad support, knee problems, IT band problems, hip problems, etc.

get new shoes!

Running shoes for people with shin splints?

nancyakacu

I am prone to shin splints and think it is because of the running shoes I wear. I am buying new running shoes and usually run 3-4 miles a day so I'm wondering what would be some good running shoes to get? Right now I'm looking into Nike Dual Fusion St 2 or Avia '5230' running shoes. Any tips/ good suggestions?

Answer
I have the very same problem. I run everyday on a treadmill. I run the same, 3 to 4 miles a day. And I thought it was my shoes as well. But Its mainly how you run. You have to make sure you dont slap your feet when youre running. And run from heel to toe. Kind of like roll your feet when you run. I had some pain on my shins and I asked my mom how to stop it and thats what she told me cause she was an avid runner when she was younger. She always told me dont slap your feet haha. Shin splints come from the constant impact from your foot hitting the ground as you run. So good shoes like Nike shocks or good supportive running shoes will help but it is mainly how you run. Also, wrapping your shins with band wraps will help as a support to your shin bone. I also heard that icing your shins after running will help a bit. Ive tried all these and they do help alot. Mainly what helped me though was maintaining a good technique for running. Hope I helped =]

What type/brand of walking show for men would you suggest for a week at Disney World?

We are spending 7 days at Walt Disney World in May 2012. Both of us are looking into the best walking show for men. A shoe that offers high comfort, reduction of impact, breathable fabric and under $100. Some have suggested Sketcher's Shape-Ups or the Reebok version. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Answer
well i wouldn't recommend the "shape up" type of shoes cuz you are getting a work out from wearing them which can make your muscles so to begin with just with regular walking, just imagine how your muscles will feel after walking in them around disney world. plus you have to be able to feel balanced in them which can be a lot of work depending on where your center of gravity is so not feeling stable would not be a good thing either.

as far as the brand i have no preference. my personal opinion is whatever brand feels comfortable on your foot. just make sure that its an athletic walking/running sneaker. and you better get out there trying on shoes now cuz you're gonna want to break them in a bit before you just head off to disney world where you will be walking MILES each and every day.

Is there a deep symmetry principle at work in US politics?

Hillary Clinton was the shoe in candidate -- "inevitable" that's what they said.

Suddenly at the last possible moment arises Obama, out of nowhere, the buffoon candidate, who she didn't even bother to run against in the primaries, thinking him a nullity, thinking him so obviously unqualified that even the most un-informed voter would see him as utterly unqualfied and vote for her instead.

Didn't happen.

He won, she lost.

Now for the symmetry, mathematically this is such perfect symmetry it looks like what we woodworkers call a butterfly pattern.

Comes now Pawlenty, or maybe Jindal, or maybe Romney to be the GOP candidate in 2012. And they are "inevitable" clearly the right person to represent to GOP against Obama.

And suddenly, out of nowhere comes Sarah Palin, the buffoon candidate, clearly a ditsy airhead even dumber than was shown on SNL.

But, all the GOP hopefuls go down, and Sarah Palin is the choice of the primary voters.

So far, I hope you see the perfect butterfly symmetry here. I am a mathematician, but one need not be a mathematician to see this.

There are 40 million people in the "We Want to Be Trailer Trash" movement in USA. They are the militant trailer trash on the march. They are very proud, extremely cohesive, every single one has their NASCAR jacket with the Dale Jr. patch. All the men have ducks tail hairdos. The women call themselves "red neck women". They love the stars and bars to irritate to people driving behind them.

These are radical militant as*h**es on the march, and there are 40 million of them, and they are voting for Sarah Palin -- one of their own.

So, here's what true:

2012 is plainly a GOP opportunity. Obama has messed up bigtime. He's a Marxist. People know it now. They don't want a Marxist President.

But because of the principle of symmetry the GOP is doomed to have a clowny bozo airhead take over the top of their ticket in 2012, who Obama with all his many deficiencies will have no trouble beating like a rug.

You get right -- this is something that only mathematicians can see -- we Mandelbrot types -- we fractal geometers. We can see it, but it's invisible to mankind, until the news report the amazing (again) facts.

Answer
Politics is not mathematics. It has no logic, it is chaos based on emotions and great marketing. The better marketer always wins and Obama had the best marketing campaign. Fractals have logic & purpose which can be seen throughout nature but politics is not natural.

Why are some Clinton backers voting McCain?

LuvMyPup

i am a huge supporter of Hillary, let me just say that first. i want nothing more than her as my president.

however, all this time we have been saying that we choose hillary becuz we think she is better than obama. she has more experience, she knows all of the issues. you can ask her anything on the spot, and the women has a clear and precise answer. we have been saying all along that obama doesnt have the knowledge or the experience like Hillary does.

so some backers are voting mccain so that she can run again 2012. mccain is a 1 term prez giving her a huge advantage in 2012.

well, if we were so confident that Obama was going to suck, then why would you put your democrat values aside and vote mccain? wouldnt hillary have the same chances of winning in 2012 going up against obama?

unless you think he might do a good job and you are worried?

i just dont get it.........

i am confident that no matter who Hillary goes up against in 4 years, she is a shoe-in.
Hoping For Change~ how the heck did you get racist outa my question. im guessing you cant read between the lines so i'll dumb it down for you- i am a former Hillary supporter, voting for Obama. i am trying to figure out why more clinton supporters arent doing the same.

Answer
I've felt since the beginning that Bill and Hillary are moving behind the scenes to fulfill their own agenda...I'm not kidding either

1) Bill doesn't like Obama, everyone knows it
2) If Obama loses, Hillary can run in 2012, McCain has already said that he will only serve one term
3) Hillary's closest friends and top campaign supporters have said publicly that they are voting for McCain, among them Lynn Forester de Rothschild, John Coale and Hillary's own brother
4) Bill has spoken positively about Palin AND McCain, yet negatively about Obama
5) Biden is a CLOSE friend of Hillary's...And we all know what he's been saying...
6) Hillary backing out of the Anti-Iran rally made Obama look bad, and caused the rally organizers to UNinvite ALL "political personalities"...That didn't sit well with the Jewish community

how do you cure heel spurs without surgery?

best athletic shoes plantar fasciitis women
on Plantar Fasciitis Shoes for Women :: Plantar Fasciitis Inserts & More
best athletic shoes plantar fasciitis women image
Q. i dont want to have surgery because of a heel spur. is their any way of cures without surgery

Answer
Plantar fasciitis (heel spurs) is an excruciatingly painful foot condition caused by the inflammation of the plantar fascia, a broad ligament-like structure that runs along the sole (plantar) of the foot between the toes and the heel bone.

Most people who have plantar fasciitis know they have it and know what it is.

Some doctors compare the pain of heel spurs to the feeling of walking with a pebble in your shoe, just beneath the heel. Ha! Those doctors have never had plantar fasciitis. Those who have will tell you that the pain is far, far worse than that innocuous little analogy suggests. It is so bad, in fact, that it drives many people to submit to horrendously painful corticosteroid shots in their heels, in hope of reducing the pain.

I had a cortisone shot in my right heel the second time I had
plantar fasciitis. I am not a screamer, but let me tell you, that shot caused me to let out a shriek of pain that was heard in the parking lot of the podiatrist's office. It was so painful that I was unable to force myself to undergo the shot in my left heel that was scheduled for two weeks later. Furthermore, though many people do get relief from such shots, for me the shot did no good at all.

Another fairly drastic option for treating plantar fasciitis is surgery to loosen the plantar fascia by making a small cut in it. Certainly this treatment is effective for many people, but few would choose either surgery or those devilish cortisone shots if they had other less invasive treatment options.

Well, there are other treatments that should be tried before turning to surgery. The first time I had plantar fasciitis, I gave up my ten-mile-a-day walks, bought a car (which I had never done before), and abandoned stylish shoes (which are a major culprit in women's foot disorders). I also had a pair of custom-fitted insoles made--for $60--which I put into the Reebok walking shoes that I wore all the time until my heel pain subsided, which it did after about two months. I took aspirin every day to reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

You should, of course, check with your doctor before using any over-the-counter NSAIDS (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like aspirin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or naproxen. But if your doctor approves such medication for you, and if you use it carefully (NSAIDS can be dangerous if improperly used), then such drugs do help to relieve the pain and inflammation of plantar fasciitis.

A few years after my first bout of plantar fasciitis, the condition flared up again, and this time it was even worse than the first time. I had not gone back to wearing high heels, but I had occasionally worn attractive flats that did not provide sufficient support for my unusually high arches--and I had sometimes walked distances in them, since I no longer had a car.

I need more arch support than most, but everyone should make sure that the shoes they wear offer good arch support, because most cases of plantar fasciitis could be prevented if only people would take better care of their arches.

This time the pain was so crippling that I ended up having to use a cane for over a year. (My son complained that I was getting old. I told him to think of it instead as an athletic injury--I walked so much that I damaged my feet.) Because I had to stay off my feet as much as possible, I became virtually housebound, not a situation I relish.

It was the severity of this bout of plantar fasciitis that drove me to subject myself to that dreadful cortisone shot. Because that shot didn't help, the podiatrist was recommending surgery. But I kept putting it off, even as I began to implement a couple of other suggestions she had tossed out.

First, I switched to New Balance walking shoes. For some reason, the New Balance brand provides better arch support for
plantar fasciitis sufferers, and podiatrists routinely recommend that their plantar fasciitis patients wear New Balance. For dressier occasions, I wear "grandma" shoes--fairly wide, well-constructed black or tan shoes with really good arch supports. (The brand I like is S.A.S. )

Admittedly, these shoes aren't pretty. I now wear slacks or calf-length skirts, because my granny shoes don't work well with shorter skirts and dresses. One other thing I did--and I believe this is what made the most immediate and dramatic difference in my condition--was to wear those pre-formed Futuro elastic ankle braces that you can buy for five or six dollars in any supermarket or drugstore. They are way cheaper than the custom-fitted insoles I purchased for $60 dollars the first time I had heel spurs, and since I didn't end up having to buy a car, treatment was much less expensive the second time around.

I never wore skirts while wearing the ankle braces, but I only had to wear them for five weeks before the pain in my heels faded away altogether, though I continued to wear them for another two weeks, just to be sure all was well. Those braces pull up and support the arches from below the foot, providing even better support than my custom-fitted insoles had.

I never went back to wearing pretty shoes without arch supports, except for those infrequent occasions when I need to dress up, but I know I will not be walking or standing around.

It has now been three years since that last bout of plantar
fasciitis. A couple of times since then, after I have walked long distances on hard surfaces (e.g., sidewalks or roads), I have felt the familiar twinge of heel pain. But whenever that happens, I just wear my braces again for a couple of weeks, and the pain goes away. In fact, sometimes I will wear my braces even when I don't have heel pain, if I know that I am going to walk a lot more than usual, and that prevents me from getting even the beginnings of heel pain.

If you suffer from plantar fasciitis, try changing to appropriate shoes, use NSAIDS if the doctor approves them for you, and start wearing ankle braces. The braces should be snug enough to provide good support, but not tight enough to impede circulation. (Those of us who are no longer young need to be careful about protecting the circulation in our feet.)

You may well discover that your heel pain goes away within a few weeks, and that you don't have to have surgery after all.

Even more important, you won't have to have one of those nightmarish cortisone shots!

hope my ans suits u..if let me know

Which US brands of athletic shoes fit a wide front foot & narrow heel well?

Bess2002

The front of my foot is very wide, but my heel is very narrow, making it difficult to find shoes that are wide enough in front but that don't slip at the heel. I need lots of shock absorption in my shoes to minimize pressure on my discs when I run & to keep my plantar fasciitis from flaring up. I also have a high instep & high arch. I wear orthotic inserts to support my high arch so arch support isn't a big necessity in the shoe itself. I'm a woman, but I don't mind wearing either men's or women's shoes, so long as they fit well. Any recommendations?

Answer
like yourself I have wide feet And I have always been a big Asics fan their shoe are very conforatable and they have a wide selection of shoes to chose from.

New balcnace is another shoe brand that makes wide shoe sizes. But have no experience wearing them. Your best betis to go to your local running shoe store and ask them.

Running shoes are something that you must do in a store. The reason being that there are so many thing that you need to consider in buying a pair of shoes. For example, do you have wide or narrow feet, do you pronate (outward roll of the foot) or supernate (inward roll of the foot) or are you a neutral runner. (look at the bottom of your current running shore they will tell you) They should not rub anywhere, if they do they will give you blisters. Either move up a half size or try a different shoe.

Go to a store that specializes in running shoes, so that you can try the on. In fact, most stores will let you do a short run ( 100-200-meters) in the shoes before you buy them. This is done so you can see if the shoe rubs anywhere. This is because they want you to be happy and come back again. They usually can answer all of your questions or find the answer for you.

Usually when you find a shoe that you like stick with it and just get the most recent model of that shoe (it usually changes every year)

In fact, take the shoes that your currently running in with you when you go the shoe store. Do not buy running shoes on line. Bad Idea.

Where are good places local to get sandals that cover up bunions?

best athletic shoes bunions image

Jessica Gu

I live in lancaster , PA and it is really hard to find sandals that cover up my bunions and dont irritate them either. The only kind i can find are flats by blowfish, but im not particuaraly looking for flats. Thanks;

Answer
I've got one foot with bunion, the other I had surgery done. With that, I end up getting bursitis that's why I'm contemplating having the other surgery done. I now sleep with a pillow to prevent bursitis from happening, between my hubby and me, and one on my left.

I wear all types of sandals, thongs are my favorites, and I can wear 3" heels once in awhile, because I love shoes. I've also started wearing mules, or wide toe shoes, just no tennis shoes or athletic shoes. I can wear laced up boots, etc, just not athletic type shoes.

Best answer is to try them on yourself, if you're going to cover up your bunion it will only squeeze them and hurt even more. Nordstrom's Rack, Marshall's, are good sources to find comfortable shoes.
Buyer beware when it comes to buying shoes online, and I do not rec. using PayPal. I got screwed, took 3 years for my credit.
I bought 2 pair of shoes, $700 worth @ Zappos, where they have free shipping & free returns. I am a 5 1/2, so I bought a size 6. Returned them. Ordered a 5, too small. I saved $700.
I went to Nordstrom's, they're having shoe sales. Found 2 shoes, both less than $300. Both were rated as 'best comfortable shoes for walking'. BTW: I wore one of the boots for 4 hours, and I didn't even do that much walking, mostly standing on the same spot . . . . and I was already limping. I took it back the following day!
My son bought a pair of Nike beach sandals. They didn't come in his size, so he bought the one larger. They weren't sold in stores! He was walking around sandals too big, only because he didn't want to pay for return shipping and re-stocking fees.
Shoes that are good for some, may hurt your feet. Just saying!

How to prevent blisters from sperry topsiders?

getspasmod

I recently bought a pair of sperry topsiders (the women's angelfish). I have worn them several times, and each time I wear them they cause terrible blisters on my heels. I tried putting moleskin inside the shoe where it rubs, but this has not helped. I really like these shoes, but this problem is making them unwearable! Please help!

Answer
Are you wearing socks?

Some people can't wear athletic shoes because of bunion, me for instance, but I can wear any other type of shoes, boots, sandals.

Sperry is another, and I used to wear them, but they're too narrow for me and hurts like hell!

It's possible you can't wear certain shoes because of blisters. Not a good sign!

i'm looking at running shoes, not track shoes, but what are the best pairs of running shoes from nike and adidas for sprinting?
my choices are nike lunarswift (come out in january) adidas supernova sequence 2 or the older Nike Air Max 2006?
i currently have a pair of adidas supernova glydes and they are decent. Im mainly leaning towards nike
thanks

Answer
Reebok opens up many doors: such like price and style, which is very efficient for running but those others [the nike and adidas] are very good too. It's sometimes always best to choose a brand that is new, that has just come out.
Hope this helped!

Looking for light and flexible shoes that I can wear with business casual?

CK

I usually dress business casual (or at least a button down shirt with nice jeans). I only own a pair of black dress shoes or running shoes (Nike Free and New Balance Minimus). When I wear business casual, I go with the dress shoes.

The dress shoes are very rigid and do get uncomfortable. I prefer the lighter more flexible shoes without so much bulkiness. Can anyone recommend any nice casual shoes that can be worn with business casual and are light and flexible?

Someone suggested converse. What do you think? I'm a guy in my twenties.

Answer
Dock.Siders are your best bet.

Best running shoes for narrow and flat feet?

Q. I have very flat feet (very flat arches) and very long, narrow feet. I have always had a problem finding secure running shoes that support my arches into the correct position, and are snug around my entire foot.

I have knee problems because of this, so a good running shoe will help prevent furthur injury to my knees and feet.

Do you know of any running shoes that specilise in shoes for flat footed runners?

Answer
You need in insert to correct your flat feet, either something off the self or made by a foot doctor.
New Balance makes shoes with widths just like street shoes so you can find your size in that brand.

what is a good running shoe meant for runners and has ankle support?

Q. I currently run in high top basketball shoes because they're the only things that give me proper ankle support. I am wondering if there is some kind of ankle supporting running shoe? I need ankle support because I broke my ankle a few years back and without the support I cannot exercise as hard.

Answer
Basketball shoes provide lateral support. They protect your ankle by limiting any left to right motion. When running you really don't need that type of support. What you do need is a shoe that supports your foot (and therefore everything above it) based on how you run.

You need to get fitted at a specialty running store that can tell you what type of support you need (motion control, stability, or a neutral shoe). Once you know that you can pick out the proper shoe with the most cushioning, which will help protect your ankle from the stresses caused by running.

Then try to run on smooth, flat surfaces. Avoid trails, concrete sidewalks, and rough or crowned roads and take corners easy and you should be fine. You can wear a separate ankle sleeve which may help a tiny bit and you can also work on building up the muscles that support your ankle which will help a lot.

What running shoes offer good arch support?

I need a good arch support in my running shoes. What do you recommend that is light yet offers good support? I have been having pain in the arch of my foot for some time, especially when I get out of bed in the morning.

Answer
First of all you need to stretch your calves in the morning when you get up, a couple times during the day, and at night before you go to bed. The reason your arch hurts when you get up in the morning is most probably (like most people) your toes are pointed while you sleep. This causes your plantar fascia to contract for 6-8 hours. So stretching will help keep the PF limber and over time the pain will subside.

As for shoes. In a perfect world I would tell you to go see a podiatrist (who runs) and get fitted for custom orthotics (insoles fit to your feet that you can put in any shoes to give you the support you need). I've had good results with Brooks Trance, Brooks Adrenaline, Mizuno Wave Inspire, and a handful of New Balance shoes (but they only number their models and change the model numbers over time so I've lost track of which ones).

Go to a specialized running store and get fitted. (Not Sports Locker, Finish Line, Hibbits, Dicks, or any store that calls itself a "sporting good store").

Why is it necessary to get shoes with arch support?

mc96826

i wear alot of flat shoes like vans and nike sb's...but since i work out i want running shoes which have arch support why is arch support necessary what happens when you have flat feet?

Answer
Arch supports are helpful in preventing plantar fascitis (spelling?). Believe me, you don't want plantar fascitis.

Is it too late for me to start ballet/dance classes? And is it weird that I want to?

Stormynigh

I am an 18 year old guy and I was talking to my friend who is 16 and has been doing ballet and jazz since she was 7 years old and I told her how i have always wanted to try ballet. Needless to say, she laughed at me and said (1) I am a guy and most guys shouldn't WANT to do ballet & (2) I am too old to start dancing anyways. Okay, I know there is no way to make a career out of it (which I have never wanted to do in the first place), but is it too late for me to start dance classes? And are there places that offer beginner-level courses for adults? Also does it make me weird for wanting to try it out? I just want to try it for recreation and exercise in addition to being a swimmer (I have been swimming since middle school and will continue at college). Any thoughts/advice?

Answer
Absolutely YES! And you definitely SHOULD do it!! And BTW, it is not too late to make a career of it either. And NO, it is NOT weird. I didn't start dancing until I was 16 because my father didn't approve of it and I had to wait until I got a job after school and pay for my own lessons. I danced with a dance troupe for five years, then became ill and had to stop dancing for a while in order to get chemo.

After I had a career and raised a family, my husband and I took up ballroom and vintage dancing and we now dance with a vintage group. Ballet is hard for me right now as I have problems with balance. I absolutely adored jazz tap and miss that most of all. (I STILL have my tap shoes and you don't want to know how many years ago that was!)

Call any dance studio in the yellow pages. I guarantee that they have adult beginner classes and if you decide you want to join an amateur dance troupe, they will greet you with open arms. There are always plenty of ladies trying out but never enough male partners.

Have a TON of fun! BTW, once you get into it, you will understand that it is like any other athletic sport - you will work hard, get into terrific shape, and then the gals will be lusting after your body. All the guys in the troupe I danced with had better bodies than the football players. Your swimming has given you a great head start, and my guess is that your swimming will help your dancing and your dancing will help you as a swimmer.

I'm excited for you. You will love it so much -- and it's a great place to meet dance partners and well... friends or more. ;) Don't let her scare you off. It's NEVER too late to learn ballet.

Forty years from now, this could be you! (Hubby and me at a vintage dance event) We only started vintage dance a year ago!!! We take lessons on Sunday nights and guess what -- almost all of the steps are BALLET!!
