They are similar to athletic shoes with the soft cushion, but the uppers are leather, NOT nylon. The shoes are 1 year old, worn a couple of times a week, but there is strong foot odor. No problem like this with my other shoes.

Answer
Lysol spray can also help (it's safe for your feet, according to my brother-in-law's foot doctor). Make sure the shoes get a chance to dry thoroughly between wearings.

Does anyone have any suggestions on comfortable shoes for walking in Vegas?

browneyedg

I am going to Vegas at the end of July, and I know it will be miserably hot. I have a wide foot, so just any shoe is not comfortable. I don't really want to wear tennis/athletic shoes because it will be so hot and we all know they don't look great with every outfit. I hear that there is a ton of walking to and from buildings, and to make sure to bring your walking shoes. So, with all of that being said, are there any comfy and cute sandal type shoes out there good for walking?

Answer
flats!! legit its hot there look for a flad with a bit of something to step on and thick bottems .. anything like that should work

What shoes are best for plantar fasciitis?

SageEyes

I am looking at getting some good shoes for plantar fasciitis. The ones I have looked at are pretty expensive. I want to get some input from others before I pay that kind of money. Any and all comments would be most welcome!!

Answer
Shoes aren't really going to help much. Plantar fascitis is caused by your achilles tendon tightening up on your leg and as it pulls on the ends of your muscles as it shortens up, it pulls up on your heel as that is the end that has the least amount of resistance to it. The other end is your knee. When the tendon pulls up on your heel it causes pain where it's attached, and can cause pain in your ankle as well for it pulls your foot up into your ankle so it can move as it should for walking. To get rid of that pain you have to free up the tendon in your leg and here's how to do that:
Achilles tendon:
While sitting and your leg on your lap, take both thumbs and place them side by side at about ankle height on the tendon on the back of your leg and apply pressure hard and hold. After 30 seconds slowly raise your toes up as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your foot there for another 30 seconds.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Is plantar fasciitis a hard condition to cure? What's the fastest way to heal plantar fasciitis?

cherokee72

My 13yr old son was recently diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis and has a hard time walking - he's in the middle of football training and can't wait to return. I've been told it can take months to heal, even with purchasing New Balance tennis shoes especially designed for people with PF. What can I do to help speed up his healing process and make him more comfortable. Currently he is on Advil 3x daily and will be seeing a podiatrist next week.

Answer
I've had it too, and I'm a CNA, so I understand his pain. It can be a hard condition to cure if he doesn't take care of himself and rest his feet when he needs to. The podiatrist will probably tell him to take NSAIDs (like Aleve) and an anti-inflammatory (Prednisone) if possible. In the meantime, buy foot inserts that will help his arch, or you can get a two-liter soda bottle, fill it up with warm water and cover the cap, and roll under the foot to help support his arches so they don't fall. Hope this helps!

best running shoes to prevent stress fractures image

I got a stress fracture in my femur from running cross country. When I start running again, how can I prevent this from happening?

Answer
It really depends on the severity and location of the fracture. Most typically, stress fractures require a rest from running for 4-6 weeks. I've got one that was bad enough to put me on crutches and take me out for 4 months!

When you do start again, be sure to start slow...run/walks. Jog a light pace for 1/4 mile, walk a 1/2 mile...this is really conservative, but just to give you idea.

You've got to really listen to your body...do not run until all sharp pains have subsided, when you can be up on your feet for an extended period of time without it hurting and you can walk prolonged distances without pain. When you do run, it pretty much should be painless...if not, you should go back to non impact activites such as biking.

High cushion socks such as Thorolo's level III will be helpful. Be sure to have the appropriate type of shoe for your foot. A reputable running store can typically help you out with this.

Finally, when resuming running, don't increase your distance/intensity by more than 10% per week. In other words, if you did 5 miles in one week, don't do more than 5.5 the next.

What happens if you run with shin splints?

-up in the

this is my first track season in high school, and i'm actually pretty decent. i've been getting really bad pains in my shins, and one day it was so bad, i couldn't even practice. but now it's not so bad, and its just in my left shin now. Everyone on the team says its shin splint, and it the way i land on my feet when i run. i know how to prevent shin splints now, but how can i get over them? and can i run with shin splints? and how do i know if i have a stress fracture?

Answer
If you had a stress fracture you couldn't run. Period. Shin splints are one of the many downsides to running. I've had them so many times but I've always just ran through mine. Try and by shoes with little or no support example track spikes, vibram five fingers, or just go bare foot. This makes you land on your toes which makes you faster and has much less impact. It is the healtiest way to run. Also to help fix them stretch them and drink milk or eat anything with calcium. If it gets really bad then take a few days off. It's not worth hurting yourself. I'm just too stupid to stop. Hope this helps.

Why do my knees hurt when I run in a different state?

I live in Colorado but visit Florida frequently. I try to keep up running while I'm in Florida but I can this really bad knee pain while I'm down her and running. It's fine when I'm walking and I try to run on the side of the road in the grass to keep off hard surfaces but they still hurt. It's not my shoes as I've had three different types of shoes that I've run in down here and when I go to colorado, my knees are fine. I run on sidewalks and on roads all the time in Colorado and I never feel this pain, but when I go to Florida I can only jog a minute max and sprint for about 30 seconds until it's too painful.

Answer
There is no way your knees know what state the are in so it must be the surface or slant on the surface.
If you are running on the side of the road where there is a cant or slope then this puts strain on your joints.
Find a level area like a park or golf course, and if you run on the sidewalks in Colorado you could run on the sidewalks in Florida.

Why did my knees start hurting when I jog?

Jo

About 2 years ago I started running for "just getting fit" reasons. But, recently I have been getting knee pain when I run or even just walk, I've never had this happen before until now. Also I've been running in my neighborhood on concrete/asphalt if that had any factor in it.

Is that a sign I may be doing something wrong when I run? Should I buy new shoes or might it be something else? I would love to hear from you as I am a little concerned about this. I am neither old (only 27) nor do I have any other physical condition on a continual basis that would explain that.

Answer
If you started running on your own, you may not have learned the best ways to do it to keep the impacxt at a minimum. After all, your full weight comes down on one knee, then the other. Now, the concrete issue isn't really relevant, because if you were running on dirt, the only "springiness" would be from the grass, and that's not really enough to protect the knees from the jolt.
Consider changing the way you run. Perhaps to a more "body forward" stance, so that the forward portion of the foot gets the weight, rather than heels and knees.
Watch how runners in a fast race have their bodies.
I suspect that you have learned bad habits, and "Running for Dummies" might be a good book to read.

Additionally, the reminder that with ANY bone or muscle pain issue of undetermined origin, your Vitamin D level could be an issue, and I've included an !Answers site where I addressed that.

Best to you.

also, I wear 30x32 size MENS jeans, and usually a size large or sometimes for sweaters and jackets XL, what would the sizes be for womens? i'm looking to get my clothes for when I start dressing up in public, I just begun my MTF transistion.

Answer
My best advice to you is to invest in a tape measure. You can get one at just about any drugstore or alterations store. Measure yourself and when you go online, (check various websites) check the sizing chart. The sizing chart will give you measurements that will relate to your measurements that you took. Keep in mind that different clothiers size their clothes differently. Some run small while others run large.

mens shoe size compared to womens

The other day I was in the mall, and I went in this store to look at these running shoes, and both mens and womens shoes looked identical, anyway they were out of mens and it would take a month to get mine in. But they had a crap load for womens, my shoe size is 11.5 what size would i need to get in womens if i wanted the shoe that badly??

Answer
to get from mens shoes you add a size and a half
i wear a size 6 in womens and i wear a 4 1/2 in mens
you wear an 11 1/2 in mens so you wear a 13 in womens
i hope that helped :)

What's a good athletic sneaker for me to wear?

Soccer Cra

I've been researching a lot lately about shoes and the different foot types. What I've concluded is that I have normal arches (I used to think I had low arches) and that I'm an under pronator (which I'm very certain of). I've been looking for a good pair of sneakers to fence (epee) in. In fencing, stress is put on the entire leg. I've been doing it for a year now, and I tend to feel pain in my knees and ankles, if I feel pain at all (most of the time I don't, probably because I'm used to it now). I'm a female and I'm on the heavy side. I need a shoe that isn't to bulky. I tried using a pair of basketball shoes but they were too big and bulky and I ended up bruising my foot the first time I wore them. I also need a shoe that has good traction on gym floors. My pair of running sneakers right now (adidas Modulation) feel great, but lack traction on gym floors.
Please suggest somethings that can help me find a good shoe for a decent price (I try to stay below $70)
-My current running shoes: https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1139485/adidas-climawarm-modulation-high-performance-running-shoes-men.jsp
-These are a pair of shoes that caught my interest a while ago. No matter what I research though, I can't find a good answer as to if they would work for me: http://www.adidas.com/us/product/womens-running-adipure-ignition-shoes/CP197?cid=G61711&breadcrumb=1z13071&search=adipure+motion&cm_vc=SEARCH
Also, any ideas how to solve my ankle problems? The problem comes and goes; It tends to happen often when I run, or sometimes walk. It's only become a problem in recent years. I started noticing in summer of 2011. Thanks.

Answer
Unfortunately, there is no such thing as the best running shoe so any recommendations will only be the personal preferences of individuals who will not have the same foot type as you.

The "best" running shoes for an individual is the one with the design features that match the characteristics of your foot. Without knowing the characteristics of your foot, it is not possible to make any recommendations.

I strongly suggest that you go to a specialty running shoes store and let them check you and follow their advice.

What type of shoes should I purchase for Track?

Courtney S

One of the coaches for Tracks would like for me to do 400 if I do Track in high school so what brand?

A few helpful notes:
-The shoe must be a snug fit
-I could care less for fashion, designs, colors, ect.
-please don't get anything bright colored. I prefer all white or black shoes that are sold by Companies who know their customers
-A small heel or no heel at all (high heels work also)

Answer
You'll need two pairs of shoes, one pair of regular running shoes and a pair of track spikes.

I would recommend going to a running specific store because they can help you find shoes that are the best match for you based on your stride (pronation, heavy stike, etc) and your event.

Since you're doing the 400m would you also be doing other sprinting events or other mid distance events like the 800m? Theres different track spikes depending on your event. Sprinter spikes typically have no heal cushion at all where as distance spikes will have some support at the heel.

Check out this link to look at some spikes.
http://www.eastbay.com/searchresults/?N=61&Ntt=track%20spike&cm_REF=Men's

People always want to know what BRAND to get but honestly it doesn't matter. I've had new balance, nike, and adidas and they're all great. Just get shoes that fit you and your event, don't worry about brand.

I need a shoe I can buy about anywhere and if you know who sells it the name of the company. Thanks!

Answer
Not Nike Shox. No serious running store will carry Shox.
There are a dozen great shoes for runners with high arches. Finding the right shoe, unfortunately, is not as simple as determining your arch height. For example, the adidas Response Cushion 16 and the adidas Supernova Cushion 6 are both great shoes. The Supernova is built for a heavier runner (heavier than 180 for men) while the Response is much lighter and less bulky.
Your best course of action is to find your local running store and have them fit you.

How can I get rid of calf pain when I walk?

jen_2174

I have tried everything I can think of but I still have major calf pain when I walk so bad, I can barely take a few steps forward. I thought it was due to my high arches because i have abnormally high ones but the other day I just bought a very expensive pair of shoes with expensive arch supporters put in and theres no difference in my calves at all. Sometimes on rare occassions i can walk without pain and dont know why, but most of the time it ruins me getting in shape and losing weight because the pain is so bad. Doesnt matter if the surface is flat or uphill its all the same. Its really upsetting me because its blocking me from life and ive already spend a lot of money and nothings helping. Any suggestions?
I have tried stretching and it doesnt seem to help.

Answer
Try to figure out what is causing you that pain. If it is a fracture have it x rayed. If it is arthritis, try drinking one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar daily. I had a severe pain on my knee caps once but after drinking apple cider vinegar the pain has not recurred.

Mary

I have a duck walk and walk on the outer sides of my feet. I get blisters on the back of my heel, sometimes on my toes and at the base of my big toes. I wear good walking shoes called New Balance and they have been broken in. I wear thick socks too. Prior to walking I am starting to put bandages on heels and some toes to give myself some cushion, but I still get blisters.
I have flat feet too.

Answer
you need help from a podiatrist. you probably need anti pronation inserts to train your feet to walk normally. my son had custom inserts. it really solved his pronation issues.

are you suppose to feel a burn with Reebok Easy Tone walking shoes?

Lucke

I have a pair of Reebok Easy Tone walking shoes. The ones with the balance ball technology. I already walk regularly with my boyfriend and I thought it would be great to get a pair. Now I have a pair but I don't feel a burn or really a difference with these shoes. I thought I would.

Answer
Use a tape measure to get a baseline of your calves and the circumference of your thighs. Then, take some photographs as well. Then, speed up your walk, and see if after three months, there is a difference in the measurements and the look of the legs. If not, burn or not, return the shoes.

I was wondering if anyone knows where to find good Zumba shoes for men. I'm a size 13 and I can't find any good shoes to dance in.

Answer
You need shoes that are lightweight, give good support, and allow pivoting movements without sticking to the floor. I have used Bloch split-sole dance sneakers. They are fairly narrow (they use a woman's last, no doubt) but come in very large sizes. I wear 12 and found a fit. If these don't work I would recommend a good indoor soccer shoe. I have used Nike lightweight soccer shoes and they work well. I also have used the old-fashioned Reebok Ex-O-Fit trainers, the hightops, and these work pretty well. I tried actual tennis shoes but they seemed kind of heavy for dance-type movements.

i have been doing zumba for a while, and i think its time to get some real shoes, my tennis shoes just make my feet hurt.

my instructor recommended to get jazz shoes from discount dance supply.
but im not sure what kid to get. any ideas or suggestions as to what kind will work best?

Answer
Jazz sneakers would work great. Any kind would work, just make sure to look for something with only a little bit of tread on the bottoms. You want to be able to twist without your shoes sticking!
Here is the link to the new Zumba shoes... They too are about $75, but they're pretty cute!

I think you could either order them off the Zumba website or through your instructor.

What are the best running shoes for me?

Jessica

I am looking to buy some new running shoes next week and I have no idea what kind to buy. Mostly I will be running on the treadmill with these shoes. I have a medium to high arch on my feet and I have bad knees from years of softball. Thanks for your feedback!

Answer
As a coach of marathon and half-marathon runners, this is a question I am asked frequently, and it's an excellent question.

As an alternative to what Jo suggested:
Yes, there are MANY running shoes in the $100-150 price range, but that does not mean they are the best shoe for you!

Prior to running my first marathon, I had worn New Balance and a couple of other "no-name" shoes. For that marathon, though, I visited the local running shoe store, where members of my own running club went for their running footwear. After talking with the owner for about 15 minutes, he didn't hesitate. He pulled down a pair of Nike Air Pegasus and said "this is what you will need". When I asked "why these?", he replied with a good, detailed explanation of the construction of the shoe, and how it was well-designed to protect my feet. It sounded reasonable, so I bought a pair.

I've never regretted it! To this day, it's the only thing that goes on my feet when I'm not wearing regular street shoes or dress shoes.

A funny thing happened, however, when I got to the Marine Corps Marathon that year. It seemed that almost all of the Marines in the race were also wearing Nike Air Pegasus. Naturally, this aroused my curiosity, so I asked several of them "why?" All of them had the same response: "That's what they gave us in Boot Camp." When we consider that the Marines do more running in Boot Camp than the other military services, it makes sense that they'd want to protect their feet.

If it was good enough for the United States Marines, it was good enough for me.

I ran all of my marathons in Nike Air Pegasus. It is definitely not the most expensive running shoe on the market. When I bought my most recent pair (less than 2 weeks ago), it cost $79.99. Considering that my first pair (19 years ago!) cost $53.99, that's not a bad price at all.

However, just remember that the best shoe for one runner is not necessarily the best shoe for the next runner. Some shoes are built wide while others are narrower. Some have a higher arch, and some have little arch. That's why you need to go to a running specialty store and have the clerk look at your feet. He or she will measure them properly, and will probably ask you several questions about your running. That's their job, so don't let it bother you at all. In fact, I'd be more worried if they didn't ask you any questions!

Whatever happens, let me wish you Good Luck and Good Running!

My Filipina fiance started calling me "master" after we got engaged and I told her that was a bad idea but she says it's her culture that's what the wife calls her husband. it's like "Master of the household" So I'm living in a funny episode of I Dream of Genie right now. She's not all oppressed and stuff either she is independent, smarter then me, and highly educated. She just wants to do it that way so that's how it's going now.

Is that really common in your culture? Cause I'm blushing to death and hoping she never says it in public. Also when she says it I have a sudden urge to buy her anything she wants.

Funny story, my mom was in my house while i was at work and saw one of her love letters to me where she called me that and threw a fit. it was hilarious.

I am very much for women's rights and have never been in a situation like this. I was raised by a feminist.

Answer
I have been to the Philippines and none of the married ladies there called their husbands like that, at least not in public. However they by and large did seem to be very respectful towards their husbands, and the really appreciated it if their husband was nice with them. A large percent of the guys there are losers that smoke, drink and gamble away what little money they build up, and yes, sadly wife beating is not uncommon there. So yes she might have a submissive fetish or something or maybe she just appreciates a good guy - a quality rarely present in western women these days.

I say treat her nice but watch the spending (remember Imelda Marcos that had like a few million shoes) filipinas can be sweet and loving but have no problem spending money on dumb stuff... Enjoy the ego rush and do not let you mom ruin her - remember you mom may think it is fun to spread feminazism but YOU have to live with the woman and share your future with her. And do not let you mom go rumaging around your personal papers - that is really not good.

Show hear some appreciation by giving her non monetary praise and teach her how to manage money well for herself and your family. Encourage her to grow as person, visit new places and improve her career. Filipinos are hard working and good people but they are really bad with money (read the history of the place and you can see how trillions of dollars in investment and foriegn aid was squandered whilst poorer countries around the Philippines rocketed to success with a lot less help). Be a good 'master' and teach her to be a wise queen and you will be way better off in the long run, else you may end up training a leach or golddigger...

Beware... Be smart.

Hypothetically, would you ask for independence in 1946 from the US government?

delive_ran

If you were alive then and one of the people of the Philippines. Would you go with Pres. Quezon rhetoric speeches that "he rather see the Philippines run like hell by the Filipinos than run like heaven by the Americans"? I would definitely say NO. The only years the Philippines enjoy such high prestige was in the 1950's and the 60's through out Southeast Asia. When Marcos came to the picture all hell broke loose and until now we felt the after shock of it all. If we are run by the US government they would proclaim the Philippines as one of their States just like Alabama or other States like Hawaii or Guam etc...a governor obviously will run the affair of the Philippines island and the staff and the workers would still be the Filipinos but this time we enjoy the privileges of the ordinary Americans do in the mainland. I would rather shine the shoes of the Americans if the country is running smoothly and in order rather than see the Philippines like this. Would you? Thousands of Filipino are moving to the US and millions of Filipinos are now considered OFW, overseas contract workers working for Arabs and other nationalities with cruelty and lots of pain just to get those dollars back home to feed their love ones in the Philippines. How ironic isn't it. Nuon nakahiga na tayo sa kama, mas ginusto pa natin ang mahiga sa sahid. Of course for some who will say we rather be free. Masarap maging malaya. Kaso if the people who will run the country doesn't know how to run it and worst will rob the people instead. Until now we are still guided and supervise by the US government. If not for the US government, Vietnam or even China has invaded us long time ago. We do not have enough manpower or even decent equipment to fight any invasion. What are we going to fight with, stick and carrots? Even some of the people I talk with in the past said we are better if we kept to be one of the States of the US govenrment then. I guess to me it is only obvious we are bound for hell because of trusting our own kind, the Filipinos. Even if P-noy make good for this 6 years, we never know if the next President is another GLORIA ARROYO, so another agonizing 6 years once again. We sing, dance, listen to US music and other hip-hop, break dancing etc....where do we get this with the US culture that we keep on copying and our own culture is lost in the clouds above us. Let me see your different point of view, and for those eccentric ones or hard to follow individual well if you like to discuss what you think, go ahead. Enjoy the moment. Thanks
The other argument of the Filipinos against the idea before is that they said the US government will steal the natural resources of the Philippines. Why steal it when they can promote or even make the Philippines main US and other European destination. Why they will remove Taal or Mayon volcanoes and move them somewhere in Southern Carolina? Ridiculous. The beaches we have will be well guarded by the US coast guard perhaps and the desputed Spratley island could have been a tourist vacation by now if we are a US State. We have no NPA, no abu sayyaf, no MILF or other terrorist jumping or hopping from one island to another to reach Sulu or Tawi tawi to bomb Mindanao. One thing puzzle me is that we are branded as one of the best workers around the world, efficient and well organized but we cannot run smoothly a government like the Philippines. Ironic isn't it? Doesn't this tell you something is wrong with us?

Answer
I asked myself what is the reason why Pres. Quezon said that, for sure he had his reason or reasons to say those things. One of them (I can only guess); we should not forget that his ancestors are Spanish. I can only tell from my own experience. Because of your question, I remember a conversation I had with a Spanish woman just this year about Spain colonizing the Philippines, believe me, it was done carefully and diplomatic. There is one thing that she said that woke my attention: "Spain lost the Philippines because the Americans took it all". The triangle Spain, Philippines and America, even now a days is a sensitive matter. Now, going back to this quote, at the end he died in NY during his exile.
Colonizing a country is a crime. The Philippines has been the interest of many. Other countries were arguing who will get which part of the Philippines, does this ring a bell to you? The Philippines have suffered a lot that even the new generation can feel the pain after all this years. There is also a saying: One should not leave a winning team, but will always and someone will. The Philippines, with its own natural resources can survive by its own and that is a good basis for Independence. There is also a saying: No man is an island. Now comes the exchange of products, modernization and globalization.
As for me, I also have a dream. I dream that the Philippines will prosper not only because of the help from others which is costly at the long run, but, from Filipinos to Filipinos, to mature, tolerant, be productive because with productivity and creativity, it can come out something new Made in the Philippines. It will not only boost self worth but also respect which the Philippines/Filipinos really do need.
Wouldn't that be nice to imagine, if people in other countries, when they look around in their own homes for start, from the smallest to the biggest, from less to most important objects that they have, giving them small Philippine flag stickers and let them stick it at those that are made in the Philippines and as a result, their homes are full of it? Nice isn't it. Impossible?
I do understand your despair and we only have one short life to live which for many, a struggle and I'm not here to judge. You rather polish the Americans' shoes than having a Philippines like this. That is OK, but what is wrong with polishing Filipino shoes?

I run 3 miles a day and I currently have to take off time running for fear of a stress fracture in my knee. I also experience shin splints. I believe better shoes would really help me. Any suggestions? I anticipate about an 100.00 investment, no more than 150.00

Answer
I am a runner, I go to many races and I know what exactly you need. "Addidas" is defiantly the best brand. And whatever the brand is, the shoes must be completely flat, bendable. I won't be able to explain, but see full details you need in that pic.( https://www.google.com.eg/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1280&bih=591&q=running+shoes&oq=running+&gs_l=img.1.1.0l10.5765.7492.0.8922.8.7.0.1.1.1.292.1133.3j2j2.7.0...0.0...1ac.1.17.img.nEPupLdiPu4#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=s_VcG-jfiCyOHM%3A%3BLJoDoXjjIRt3wM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fzero-drop.com%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F2010%252F12%252Fnewton-running-shoes-barefoot-12.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fzero-drop.com%252F%253Fpage_id%253D759%3B500%3B339 )
I hope that helped :)

chris

I see allot of girls wearing leggings. I hear allot a women trashing on pantyhose. Besides the missing feet what is the difference. I seen both up close and besides the feet I don't see anything else really different. I'm a big fan of pantyhose and i'm not seeing them worn as often anymore. one would think leggings are the same but there not. There are only a couple of body parts when raped in pantyhose that beat a sexy pair of feet. So ladies??? Why will you wear leggings and not pantyhose? What is the difference?

Answer
Different types of fiber used to make the pantyhose. Leggings are thicker, lasts longer, can be washed again & again. Panty hose, runs, and they can fit inside shoes they're thinner material and you can see through your legs.

I LOVE pantry hose, better for dresses, but I seldom wear them. The last time I wore them, was when I was feeling beautiful & elegant - Easter 2012.

Leggings are more casual, and I can wear with my pants (cold winter) or tunic (summery tops).

My sister just had her baby on March 7, 2007. It is her first mother's day and we want to get her something special. We are asking for any ideas! Maybe from her husband and her son. From my mom, From me. Any answers are better than no answers.

Answer
Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

This is a really beautiful poem too!
Women have strengths that amaze us.
They carry children, they carry hardships, they carry burdens but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up for injustice.
They don't take "no" for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without new shoes so their children can have them.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about a birth or a new marriage. Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They have sorrow at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all sizes, in all colors and shapes.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world spin!
Women do more than just give birth.
They bring joy and hope.
They give compassion and ideals.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women have a lot to say and a lot to give.

How do I train for track and field?

<3MJKingOf

I am a freshman in high school and track starts in the spring but I want to start training early so that I can create a habit. In the earlier years, you never had to try out for track but this year you do. I've never done track before and I don't even know how the sport works. Some one please explain how it's "played" and please give me some tips on how to train. I think I might even just go out and run tomorrow morning.

Food for thought:

All runners who compete need a closing kick. So, learning the proper technique to sprinting 100m with standing starts is very helpful.

A better 100m run â form and technique will get you there. - ptfa.geo answer:

After that, distances will shape your mindset on improving your speed. You have to find suitable techniques, to your style of running to achieve faster running times. You can compete in any number of Track and Field events.

Running Technique Keys:

Faster Running in General:
Running faster requires - either, a higher out put of leg rotation or running on your toes or both. Pumping your elbows to the back harder and faster is the key to getting a higher leg rotation. However, XC runners should stay away from being too high on their toes - risk of twisting an ankle is too great.

A racing shoe that properly fits your foot and used for race purpose only, will enhance your speed. Placing a thin insole in your racing shoe makes your racing shoe feel very comfortable for running in without soaks. Replace the insoles when they begin to show signs of wear or when they are flat in your impact area. They can be bought in some grocery stores.

Faster 100m require -
100% application of arms and legs at a maximum output rate.

Faster 200m (curve) requires -
special lean techniques for running the curve at top speed. The straight lean for wide curves and the "T" Torque for tight curves are the dormant lean styles. Application of the 100m running technique is used for the straight.

Faster 400m requires -
strategy, stamina, cursing power and a burst of closing kick energy. Having enough energy to close strong is the key.

Faster Speed For Races Greater than 400m requires -
strategy, higher leg rotation endurance, cursing power, body ventilation and relaxation skills, an on-and-off valve for generating power with your arms and, a final burst of closing kick energy. Having enough energy to close strong is the key. (Your technique is knowing when to use these essentials.)

Faster Hurdles:

Requirement:
One needs to have an ability to go air born in a balanced manner and then return to earth by hitting the ground running.

The secrete to hurdlers' speed is in the placement of their starting blocks, the rhythm in their running between hurdles, the use of their arms, the placement of their lead leg after clearing the hurdle and, the methods needed to close out the last four hurdles.

The hurdle heights for high schools are:
American Girls - 30 inches and 33 inches
American Boys - 36 inches and 39 inches

The hurdle heights for college and open divisions are:
American Women - 30 inches and 33 inches
American Men - 36 inches and 42 inches

Faster Race Walking:

Requires:
Sustained pressure on the hip joints. One must have an ability to keep one foot on the ground at all times while walking forward after locking the knee joint. Power swings with the elbow in conjunction with accentuated hip swivel provides the power behind speed walking.

26 year old male interviewing for job, how to look older?

Chris

As the title says I am 26 and I am interviewing for a job (and likely to interview for several more, I'm hopeful but not dreaming).

Normally this isn't an issue for a 26 year old, most of the time my peers are interviewing for a professional position they've been out of school for four years and have at least a little experience in a similar or related field. I do not.

I spent three years in between Community College and Junior College trying to decide what I wanted to do with my life, I graduated with an AS and decided to end my college run. Three years later I decide my job isn't what I want and go back to school. So I'm graduating but I have had three years of professional working experience, mostly in an office setting.

But when I talk to the people currently working for the company (job fair and at an open house) they're completely overlooking the fact that I'm not a 22 year old graduate and I do have some experience.

Long story short I'm interviewing for a position that is traditionally held by people in their mid-thirties to late 60's. There aren't even many 26ers, let alone freshly minted college grads.

Consciously my interviewer will know I am in my 20's but if I do all that I can to look older they may feel as though I am older, more experienced. There's a chance they'll even notice my experience more than my title â2013 college graduateâ And I'm talking 30-35 not 50's, and I look my age, maybe slightly older than 26, so this probably isn't unattainable, I'm just not sure how to do it.

I know if I grow a beard, I'll look older. I had a full, thick, beautiful brown beard from Thanksgiving to early February, but I just couldn't stand it anymore, I may bring it back if I need to keep interviewing but I only have enough time for my beard to look like I haven't shaved for a couple weeks... probably not enough to be respectable and look older. I may try anyway but I need ideas that will help me look like I'm in my 30's that aren't beard-centric.

I won't be wearing stage make-up but I'm not opposed to wearing make-up for the interview if it helps me look slightly older.

Any help is appreciated..
I am aware they'll look at my resume, this isn't about tricking them it's about the feeling they walk away with. That's what I want, I know they'll know my age, but I'm trying to get to them on an emotional level rather than a logical one.

I know I'll be good at the job, I just need to pull out all the stops to get it.

Answer
If you have a suit as opposed to a sport coat, wear that. Wear a wedding ring. they won't ask but they may notice. A shiny wristwatch is a nice touch. Nothing too fancy, something that looks practical.

Obviously, piercings and tats are absolutely out, but you knew that. Being tall is a plus. Wear decent, conservative black shoes, maybe with a little heel.

If you are getting your hair styled, stop. Go to a barber and get man's cut. Don't smell like anything. Shut your phone off.

Good luck.

What's the difference between the Miss USA and the Miss America pageant?

women running shoes puma
on PUMA Women's Shoes like Wedges, Sneakers, Running & More
women running shoes puma image

Silencieus

I don't understand all the pageants and their preliminaries. There's a Miss America, Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss Earth, Miss USA, but what's the order of succession?

Is it, for example, winner of Miss New York goes to Miss USA and then winner of Miss USA goes to Miss World?

Can somebody clarify??

Answer
The shortest answer to this question is that it's really like the difference between Nike & Puma...just two different brands, but both running shoes. Both pageants have long and varied histories, but Miss USA goes on to Miss Universe and is a Trump owned organization. Miss America is not a part of Trump.

The differences in the competition is that Miss America has a talent portion. Usually Miss USA will be a little more glam and Miss America is a little more 'woman next door'.

Some major differences include....

* Miss America is the more established of the two pageants (est 1921). Miss USA has not been around as long (est 1952).
* Miss USA is part of a network of pageants including Miss Teen USA and Miss Universe. Miss USA goes on to compete in the global Miss Universe competition while Miss America does not have a world-wide event.
* There is no talent section at Miss USA while the talent section in the Miss America pageant still plays a major role.

Miss USA

* Evening Gown
* Swimsuit
* Interview

Miss America

* Personal Interview
* Talent
* Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit
* Evening Wear
* Onstage Question

Where can I find a reasonably priced tweed jacket for on the British high street?

Alice

I'm planning to buy a vintage-esque but still quite modern tweed jacket for my boyfriend this Christmas, but everywhere I've looked so far, they are too expensive or much too old fashioned. I would be grateful for any suggestions of where I can buy a reasonably priced jacket for my boyfriend, preferably the British high-street.
Thanks. x

How do I get in shape before track starts?

best athletic shoes under $50 image
Q. I signed up for track, and it starts in a few weeks. I want to be prepared and ready for all the running and exercising. What do I do?

Answer
You are smart to start now, especially if you are not currently participating in a winter sport at your school or in any other type of regular, strenuous exercise program. By starting early you will get a jump on the competition for slots on your team. You also are allowing plenty of time to lay down a 'base of conditioning' on which to gradually improve. Gradual increases in workout intensity are less likely to cause injuries of all types and less likely to cause you to burn out mentally, too. In some events like the 1600 or 3200 meter (1 or 2 mile) race you can improve your time race after race due to your increased level of fitness and then run out of time at the end of the season and never be sure how fast your fastest time can be. That can be frustrating, I know.

Talk to the coach. Ask him about the requirement for you to have a sports physical. Your regular doctor can do this physical. Or your school might even pay for the checkup. You will need this before you can start officially practicing with the team anyway so you might as well be safe and get it done before you start your own pre-season private workouts. You really want to know your family's medical history including heart health issues before you start getting ready for competition -- better safe than sorry!

Ask the coach for handouts of sample workouts and his calisthenics / warm up / stretching exercise routines. Ask around to see if you can't find a returning veteran of the team or even a rival team or a college track/cross-country team to show you the proper way to do the warm up. Ask if the returning veterans on your school's team are organizing their own informal group runs. Training in a group is safer for the runner and can be an enjoyable chance to socialize.

Buy some decent running shoes. Ask for recommendations for a well-stocked sporting goods or running store. Your coach might have some coupons. Wear your most comfortable old athletic shoes to the store to show the clerk the wear pattern on the tread. Let the sales help have you try on several different brands and styles. Don't be lazy: lace both shoes up all the way, tie them snugly, get up on your feet, off the carpet and on to a hard surface and walk in the shoes, jump in the them, run a few steps in them. Don't be shy; it's your money. Make sure the running shoe fits both feet well. Your goal is to get such a good fit that there is no 'break-in period' and that the shoes do not rub you raw or give you callouses or blisters. Running shoes, in my opinion, are the most comfortable shoes made. My guess is that you will still not regret spending $50 to $75 dollars for your first good pair of running shoes - even if you wind up quitting the track team and never run a yard in them. They're that good!

Use all cross-training opportunities at your disposal: walk, hike, downhill or cross-country ski, snowshoe, walk or run stairs (don't run down stairs, though) step aerobics, dance, yoga, martial arts, treadmill, stationary bicycle, circuit training, free weights, swimming -- whatever you can do comfortably to raise a sweat, condition your heart, lungs, bones, joints and muscles. Don't ignore your upper body or your mid-section. After all, you might be a sprinter, a jumper, a hurdler, or a pole-vaulter waiting to be discovered. In any case, your core/abdominal strength is key to all motion.

If you live in a cold part of the country be aware of cold weather running issues: acclimate to cold weather gradually not all at once, dress in layers and use them to prevent either frostbite or soaking yourself in sweat, be visible to cars, run against the wind on the way out and with the wind on the way home so as to find out that you are under dressed sooner while you are still close to home rather than later when you are far from home.

Whatever climate you are running in make sure you give your body the water it needs. If you are making the transition from couch potato to athlete for the first time I bet you will be amazed at how much water you will need to consume. Increased calorie consumption, increased outdoor activity, central heat and central air conditioning all drain moisture from you. You may never look at water fountains the same way again.

One last suggestion: borrow a couple of issues of running magazines from you local public library and get in step that way.

Well, I don't think any good ones are under $50 but you can look for Nike Free Run at Academy or Footlocker. They're REALLY good for balance and running long and short distances! I bought a pair that costs $75.
