Why are women so much more critical of looks than men?

Q. I know that the stereotype is that men are the ones that care about looks but in my experience this is never the case. Why are women more likely to criticize another person for not being good looking enough?

Every single time that I've been on Youtube and one of the comments was something like, that b is ugly, the commenter is ALWAYS a women. Remember this, and when you run into this situation find out if the commenter is male or female and I guarantee you it will be a woman. Why is this the case?

The thing is, women have much more things to worry about than men. For example, nails, makeup, hair, dress, shoes... you get the picture. So if they see another woman with, maybe, one imperfection that they consider themselves to be perfect in, they lash out. But don't blame them for it. Women are made to compete, from influences like beauty pageants, models, the red carpet, tv, celebrities and more. It's just how it is.

I am self preoccupied for example I talk about myself all the time by using the word "I" in all my sentences like caring about my own interests, needs, and wants rather than others. I am also very manipulative. I've been manipulating people all my life ever since I was a child and I find it very fun to do. I don't care about others who give me sympathy as long as they give sympathy, admiration, and attention. I won't have to ignore them or get angry with them. I also have self entitlement for example I believe I deserve things because I deserve them like for example I believe I deserve to be called on first in class, get first in line, and many other things. I am also 18 years old

What are some good Men's European summer style tips for 2013?







Im going to Europe late june-early july and don't want to look too much like the clueless tourist that I am, so nothing major, just the basics, such as "don't wear athletic shorts"
specific countries are france, italy, austria, and switzerland, and any specifics on cargo shorts and stripes on shirts?
and were planning on doing lots of walking, so good walking shoe recommendations as well are much appreciated

Specific style tips depend on what country you're in, but in general wear:
-neutrals like biege, white, brown, black, tan
-no running shoes.
-no sports team ball caps or T shirts like Miami Heat or the Green Bay Packers or anything. Unless you wear something soccer related
-leather is big. Leather jackets.
-Basic V neck t shirts with blue jeans
-loose hair. Don't cut it too short, don't use too much gel
-for dinner, do a t shirt and a sports coat
-sunglasses.
-cigarette.

I just bought new running shoes, and I tried them out for the first time today, but my feet started hurting after the first ten minutes. So do running shoes need to be broken in or are these just not right a good shoe for my feet?

Running shoes are different than walking shoes. They should be maybe 1/2 a size larger. You should go to a running store and ask for a shoe and they should give you a pair to run in to see what your needs are. If they don't find another running store.

I have been running in my favorite pair of Asics for 3 years (way too long to wear a pair of running shoes, I know!). I finally broke down and bought a new pair of running shoes (this time Saucony) and they feel a little heavy, like they're dragging my feet down and not bending well. Is this normal for a new pair of running shoes?


Answer
A new pair of running shoes could feel a little odd when you first wear them, particularly if your feet are accustomed to the feel of Asics shoes (which have superior cushioning). I've used Asics for years and haven't been dissatisfied with them. The cushioning and how the shoe is designed could make it feel a bit different from the usual. So, it just needs a little bit of getting used to. Do some easy, recovery runs with the shoes first, to test them out and gradually, they should break in and as they wear down, they should feel a lot more comfy and gain more flexibility.

I used to have a pair of Nike Free training shoes and they were surprisingly different from my previous shoes. They felt odd because of the lack of cushioning at the heel, but my body got used to it eventually. If the new pair you got, are heavy, it probably weighs more.

I will be visiting Italy, Germany and Austria in a few weeks. I've never traveled outside of the US and I could not be more excited.

Learn some words in German so you will be perceived as polite. English is commonly spoken. They will know more of your language than you know of theirs.

Sidewalks are very uneven all over Europe. so walking can be difficult. But everyone walks. Most European cities are "walking cities." Athletic shoes are a giveaway that you are American. Wear leather shoes, and dress more smartly than Americans usually do. Like Sunday best--everyday.

Take a sturdy water bottle so you can fill it up at every opportunity. Purchased bottled water can get expensive. And soft drinks are more expensive than beer. Really. Learn what stores, department stores, the locals go to, then do so yourself. Cheaper.

Food is very cheap in the USA. No where else in the world is the food as cheap and plentiful as it is here. There will be plenty of food, of course, but you will pay much more for it.

Take plenty of money. Your own bank can change currency for you. Yes, you will have to pay the fee to change the currency. And again when you change it back. Use a money belt.

Photocopy your passport photo page and be sure to carry that in a safe place, such as your money belt.

Call your credit card companies and tell them your itinerary so that they will allow charges to your card; otherwise they will not allow charges that are not your usual pattern. Do not use a debit card on the trip.

Change the memory card in your camera every couple of days just in case it gets lost or stolen.

Be prepared for terrible jet lag, worse upon your return. Not much works to help this. So forget what you have read. OK to try it, though.

What are the best months to travel to Europe, would june july or august be good? Is it best to stay in Hostels and save money? I am a student wanting to see Europe, most as I can... How long do I need to be there to see a vast majority of the best parts? What are some must see sites and cities? How much money should one bring (estimate) and any other tid bits of info could really go a long way..

May, June and September will not be as crowded, and cheaper, as July and August are the height of the tourist season when most of the Europeans also go on holiday.
The rest of the year is also very well possible, the cheapest fares are likely between the mid January and April, and maybe October-November.

At this time you will need about â¬75 per day, ($US 100) when you stay in hostels and do your own cooking, this will allow you some money for sightseeing and drinking and to pay for your train tickets when here.
You can do it a little cheaper if you do not spend much money on being a tourist, also when you go to the countries that have been communist in the past.
An other way to save money is not to stay in hostels but to stay in peoples homes, you can get contact through couch surfing sites:

I have never done it, but people who travel that way say they really enjoy it.
Otherwise hostels are a good cheap choice, camping, while possible is not as easy when you travel by bus or train.
In July and August most hostels fill up 100% and you might have to book ahead or find other places to stay.
But even then the hostels out of town near the Capital cities still have some space, most of the time so be flexible.

How long you need?
Many Europeans spend all their holidays in their lifetime in Europe and I never heard anybody claim that he has been everywhere.
In a month you can get an impression of Europe, in but a longer time will be better.

Do not try to rush from highlight to highlight but take your time to really get to know a country. Spend a week in its capital city, but also a few days in a smaller town and a village, visiting National parks is almost always good.
Many countries will need more than 2 weeks to see them properly (only small states like Luxembourg or Monaco you can do in that time,)
but it will stay in your memory.
If you have one month do not try to really see more than 3 countries, in 2 months 6 to 8.

And pack light.
Bring as little as you can get away with. In summer that is one pair of jeans, 2 shorts, (or 2 jeans) a handful of T-shirts, a sweater, a jacket and underwear for a week or two.
Shoes you can walk in all day everyday, and a second pair to change into at night and for emergencies, or only bathroom use.
And bring enough socks too.
You will need to do laundry, but whatever you bring you will always have to do laundry.
Keep space in your pack for a couple of new T-shirts, (great souvenirs and very useful,) and save on washing a few days.

Just before setting off you should get the newest version of a good guidebook, I prefer the Lonely Planet series, but as said, right now would be a good time to get a couple of travel guides from the library or a secondhand bookshop.

And read the older questions here, there is a lot of information already, as questions like this come up often. I think that only in this hour 3 questions have been posted that might be of help to you.

An overweight man received an e-mail advertising a program guaranteeing 10lb weight loss over 3 days. He was skeptical but had nothing to lose, so he sent his information back and signed up. A week later, he hears a knock at the door, and a beautiful 20 year old voluptuous redhead answers, wearing nothing but running shoes. She explains she is a representative of the weight loss company, and says, "If you catch me, you can have me!" Immediately, the man starts chasing her. He is enthused, so decides to sign up for the 5 day 20 lb weight loss program. The next day, a very athletic blond appears at the door, wearing nothing but running shoes. She explains who she is, and says, "If you catch me, you can have me!" Again the man chases. The athletic woman gives him a great run for his money, being in excellent shape, but again he catches her to have his way. After 5 days of the routine, the man weighs himself again and finds he has indeed lost 20 more pounds.

He is delighted and calls the company to ask for their maximum program...lose 50 lbs in 10 days. "Are you sure, sir?" the rep asks. "This is the most intense program we sell." "Of course!" the man replies. "Your program really works great and I haven't felt so good in years!"

I'm a stone or two overweight and my thighs/hips are my biggest part. So I'd prefer not to begin wearing shorts although my friend- who I'm going with- said I'd get too sweaty in joggers.

Are you deciding on clothes for exercising or clothes for fashion?


It doesn't matter about fashion when you go to the gym. If you don't want to wear shorts you should wear Women's workout capris or workout pants.

Wear athletic or gym t-shirts. If you don't wear T-shirts wear athletic gym shirts.

Bring a water bottle of course, but not plastic ones, bring reusable plastic bottles.

And get some deodorant. Sometimes people need it.

If you have long hair, wear a headband to get less sweat near your forehead.

Water will be important to balance your body's water inside. Sweat glands decrease the body's level of water but bringing reusable water bottles will balance it all out. Remember wear socks that are higher than the ankles. DO NOT wear ankle socks. They can hurt your ankles when you're exercising. Hope I help! Motivate yourself as well!

To improve on your endurance, you need to practice running distances about twice as far as your event.

Key for running shoes -

The better the shock absorption is the better the shoe is. Whenever possible, it is best to try them on before a purchase.

An ideal shoe will fit your foot like a slipper. Your running shoes are the key to staying injury free. Knowing how to use them will enhance your speed. You can wear any type of shoe you want for training in. But you should have a second pair of shoes just for racing in.

Oversize Trainers To Improve Your Speed -
The best type of trainer to wear is one that is either a half or full size too large for your feet. Buy a high quality cushion inset sole and place it in the shoe. This gives your feet added shock absorption protection. This could be a big help against Shine Splints. If one foot is longer than the other, buy the trainers based on the longest foot.
Except for hurdlers practicing their hurdle form, use this shoe for all of your running practices, including high speed sections. When you change shoes for races, you will find that your feet feel light and that your race time results are constantly on the speedy end of your speed range.

Shoes For Racing In:
A racing shoe (flats or spikes) that properly fits your foot and used for race purpose only, will enhance your speed. These shoes are normally very light but do not support your feet like trainers. What is the best running shoe for someone with narrow feet and high arches?







I`m 19 and I alway have problems with my knees and hips due to running a lot. I think that it is due to underpronating and that my shoes are not supporting me right. I weigh 138 lbs but im tall at 5 ft 9 in without shoes. I have really narrow feet so it is hard to find a fit because most shoes have normal width. If you could suggest a type or brand of shoe that would work well I would really appreciate it.

I am 200 lbs and out of shape. I used to play basketball in high school and hated running long distances even then, but I could. How can I learn to enjoy running? How can I start running so I can be able to jog long distances without killing over? I've got to do something to get in better shape! Also, what are some good running shoes?

Suggest you start out walking first. You won't hurt your knees or tire as easily. I walk to keep fit and limber as often as possible. Get good walking/running shoes (ask mr GOOGLE what brands of shoes are good for walking/running). Whether you walk or run, pace yourself (particularly useful if you want to burn the most calories), and breath evenly. Use good posture all the while and walk quickly. Walk at least 3x a week, at least 20 min each walk. If I were in a serious rush to lose weight though, I'd increase walking time and the days per week. It helps to get a pedometer to check the distance you walked. I like to count my steps but not everyone likes to do that and I must admit I often lose count but continue on walking with a simple 1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4 in my head to pace each step evenly. If you feel like breaking into a run, by all means run a bit and when tired slow down to your paced walk.

Hello. Since my high-school graduation in 2009, I have gained 100 pounds. I weighed 200 lbs then now I weigh 300 lbs. I said enough is enough and signed up for two 5K runs in April. I have started training for them this week.

Every time I start running at the local park, my lower back starts hurting really bad. I have never had back problems before so im guessing its a muscle weakness issue. There is a lot of "baggage" on my core and it seems like the muscles arent strong enough to carry the weight when running.

How can a big guy like me strengthen his core? I do a brisk walk around the park (there is still a little pain when brisk walking, but not as much), since i cant run yet. I'm not giving up. Not this time.

I bought new running shoes, so the shoes arent the problem.

One of the main things about running is having a good core, this also makes you run faster, stronger and helps reduces injury.
For core work you can do things like, planks, sit ups, push ups, backwards bridge, etc.
doing weights is also a good way to get rid of any excess weight so it will be easier for your body to carry you around whilst running!
Also look at your eating plan as eating healthier can mean you can loose extra unneeded pounds and makes running easier and puts less pressure on your back!

I've never met a marathon runner who wasn't educated about shoes. So I'm just checking.

Shoes are shoes. As long as you are buying a similar quality shoe they will last you around 500 miles. Doesn't matter if you do short distance running or long distance running. It's all the same.

I really like Asics. I have tried many different brands of shoes on (probably all of them) and none of them fit the way that Asics do. I don't know what it is but after running in Asics Gels, other brands just don't feel as nice.
I own the Keyano and the 2100 Series (all models come in men's and women's). I have low arches so those shoes work out the best for me. The Nimbus is a normal shoe with no added arch support in it for runners who don't need it and I really enjoy that model as well.

Venus Williams, a female pro-player has her own line of inexpensive clothing that she designs for Steve & Barry's, a clothing store. She designs shoes too that sell often for anywhere from $8-20. My sister has got them and she loves them for tennis as well as everyday walking shoes!! They are good quality (otherwise why would Venus wear them professionally???!!!) and look spectacular!! Give them a try.

I'm looking to purchase a pair of running or walking shoes. I have been saving to buy for shoes for 6 months so it does not matter if they are expensive but I need some good, comfortable, quality shoes. What do you suggest?
Nike, New Balance, Adidas, Asics? Any others?

I heard the Asics brand was good.
I haven't bought new shoes in about 5 years so any suggestions are appreciated.

Q. I just got new turf shoes -Nike Bomba.
I want to wear then as everyday shoes. Like wear them to school, run on the gym floor, or walk on hard floors. I'm not planning to play real soccer games with them. Maybe use them for practicing soccer by myself or with friends

Would wearing the turf shoes everyday ruin them? If so, how bad?

I own 5 pairs of Soccer TF shoes and I break in wearing them around my house, going to mall, walk around, etc. And actually I wear them for college every day and also play on them and I tell you TF shoes are very resistant I haven't got any issues my wearing them around anywhere plus using them for play so sure don't worry about them.
Obviously some day they will rip or something remember nothing is 4 ever.

BTW are you sure the size is not small and tight than you normally wear cuz sometimes it helps to go a little bit bigger but if the size isn't the factor then you might want to try to break em' in by wearing them around the house too. if you have stairs walk up and down the stairs with them. just keep moving with them on your feet. And soak your feet in warm water to help with the blisters you have already or will develop in the process.

How do i repair the crushed heel of my expensive running shoes?

I bought an expensive pair of new balance running shoes, but the lazy butt I am, I sometimes try to force my foot in the shoe wwithought loosining the laces which has...............

without suprise, caused the fabric to tear in the back, and the plastic has cracked also. Now when I flex the foot, the plastic is now digging into the heel of my foot.

In addition to not being lazy anymore and loosening the laces and not cramming my foot in, any ideas on fixing the broken plastic / fabric? Is there something I can put in front of it, or is there something I can glue in.

If you've broken the heel counter of the shoe (the rigid "spine" that supports your heel) there's not much you can do. As stated above, you can use duct tape to cover the fabric, but that spine is a very important part of the structure of the shoe and helps its function. I wouldn't recommend wearing this shoe to run in any more, as you're leaving yourself open to injury as it will allow a lot of movement in your heel and, especially if you're an overpronator, leaves you with less stability in the shoe.

You know this now.. never never never crush that part of the shoe. It's like taking a foot to a friend's spine..

I hope I don't offend you, but I am not surprised or terribly upset by this video, and I understand why some people would not help. About nine years ago I was packing for a trip when there was a knock on my door. I opened it, and there was my neighbor, naked. She was obviously battered and bruised, and she was crying and barely coherent. She told me her boyfriend had just beaten and raped her and was holding their five-month-old baby girl hostage. I got her a blanket and called 911. What followed was a nightmare.

My home was surrounded by police officers and detectives. My yard was declared a crime scene and cordoned off with yellow tape. I was forbidden to leave my living room. I was interrogated by the police like I was a criminal, first by one officer and then by another. They played the good cop/bad cop thing, one being really nice to me and one treating me like I was garbage and yelling at me and threatening me with being charged with a crime if I lied. I was home alone and very confused and frightened, and I was angry at the police for playing this game with me.

When the investigation was over, guess what happened? The woman was arrested because it turns out she beat the shet out of her boyfriend so badly he had to go to the hospital, and he locked her out to keep her from attacking the baby. She was naked because she was too stoned to bother with clothing. The "good cop" followed up with me later and explained the whole thing to me.

Would I have left the man in the street? No, of course not! I would have at least called 911, and most probably would have sat down in the street next to him to try to comfort him until help came. But I might have regretted it, based on the experience above.

The world is complicated, and people are cold, callous and indifferent to the sufferings of others. Video games, movies, television and the secularization of society is the reason why. The second reason is nice people who will lay their lives on the line for someone else get tired of being pushed around and taken advantage of, and when they decide to draw the line and say no more, the world gets a little lonelier. I am neither callous nor tired of being pushed around. I am cynical and jaded and I never believe what I read and rarely believe what I see.

(I never got my blanket back either.)

Please fast forward seven years. Same neighborhood, different house. My husband woke me up in the middle of the night saying, "There's a woman laying on our lawn!" I did not believe him, but he assured me there was. He said he was awakened by her crying for help. I ripped the blanket off the bed and told him to take it to her, as it was only 12 degrees that night. Then I called 911 as I ran downstairs.

There was indeed a woman laying on our front lawn, without shoes or a coat. She was crying very faintly, "Help me." We don't know how long she had been there or how much longer she would be able to survive that kind of exposure. Her cries were very weak. The 911 operator wanted me to give her medical information on the woman. I said I did not know her and was not capable of assessing her condition. I was pissed as hell at the operator and scared to death and just wanted the cops to get there.

The cops came. Seven cruisers full of cops. One ambulance. One fire truck. They pulled the cars up to our front porch and one deputy proceeded to yell at me for not taking the woman in my house. I told her the house was mine and I will decide who enters it. The cops retrieved the woman from the lawn, calling her by name and making fun of her. It turns out they know each other. The woman is a methadone and OxyContin addict who had wandered off in her delirium. Their interest in helping her was basically zero. I went to the police cruiser and made sure she was covered, and I had to insist that the deputies cover her feet. I tried to calm her down, as she was frightened and crying.

Before the cops took off, I told my husband I wanted my blanket back. I lost a blanket many years before during the previous incident, and I didn't want to lose another. My blankets are $100 each. My husband went to get it back from the deputy, and she told him it was filthy after touching that woman and he should sanitize it. That's lovely. I didn't think she was dirty at all.

This lady very well could have died on our lawn, and by the grace of God my husband heard her cries. I would not have heard her, and my dogs did not alert us. Later we found out other neighbors saw her there but didn't want to get involved.

I'm thankful and grateful to God we helped her. I'm not grateful that the neighbors watched the whole thing like we're circus freaks, and I'm not grateful for the scolding the cops gave us, a lawn job courtesy of their cruiser, and the sleepless night.

I'm also not thankful that the next day the woman was returned home and found nearly dead in the middle of the street

Girls/ladies, what makes you wear belts?

I'm a guy, and mostly guys wear belts if their pants/shorts/jeans are loose (I'm the opposite because I like belts) I know that mostly girls wear them as an accessory, but I am curious since girls/ladies have different body figures, perhaps there are other reasons why you wear them. Do you like wearing them for feeling (like a snug belt around the hips) or is it as simple to look nice?
The earlier answer who laughed about the idea of wearing them for feeling comfortable is actually my main question.

I've wondered when I people (or girl watch in this case!) if wearing belts could have the same feelings like wearing bras/panties, make a girl be more sexier. When I see a skinny girl wear a good sized leather belt very sung low on hips in her tiny shorts or a curvier lady with a belt a decent size and similar visual effect.

Is my perception different than the reality? Could a girl wear them or the feeling of comfort?

Your perception isn't off. Belts do serve a purpose (other than just current trends/ styles) for girls and boys (as well as women and men), to train the body/ mind to stay in alignment. I was first made aware of this at age 3, when I took my first ballet class. A young ballet dancer must always be prepared for class with the proper leotard, tights, ballet slippers, hair secured in a 'ballerina bun', and a dance belt.

I went to Nordstrom's, they're having shoe sales. Found 2 shoes, both less than $300. BTW: I wore one of the boots for 4 hours, and I was limping. I took it back the following day!
My son bought a pair of Nike beach sandals. They didn't come in his size, so he bought the one larger. They weren't sold in stores! He was walking around sandals too big, only because he didn't want to pay for return shipping and re-stocking fees.

I`m 19 and I alway have problems with my knees and hips due to running a lot. I think that it is due to underpronating and that my shoes are not supporting me right. I weigh 138 lbs but im tall at 5 ft 9 in without shoes. I have really narrow feet so it is hard to find a fit because most shoes have normal width. If you could suggest a type or brand of shoe that would work well I would really appreciate it.

I've been researching a lot lately about shoes and the different foot types. What I've concluded is that I have normal arches (I used to think I had low arches) and that I'm an under pronator (which I'm very certain of). I've been looking for a good pair of sneakers to fence (epee) in. In fencing, stress is put on the entire leg. I've been doing it for a year now, and I tend to feel pain in my knees and ankles, if I feel pain at all (most of the time I don't, probably because I'm used to it now). I'm a female and I'm on the heavy side. I need a shoe that isn't to bulky. I tried using a pair of basketball shoes but they were too big and bulky and I ended up bruising my foot the first time I wore them. I also need a shoe that has good traction on gym floors. My pair of running sneakers right now (adidas Modulation) feel great, but lack traction on gym floors.
Please suggest somethings that can help me find a good shoe for a decent price (I try to stay below $70)

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as the best running shoe so any recommendations will only be the personal preferences of individuals who will not have the same foot type as you.

The "best" running shoes for an individual is the one with the design features that match the characteristics of your foot. Without knowing the characteristics of your foot, it is not possible to make any recommendations.

I strongly suggest that you go to a specialty running shoes store and let them check you and follow their advice.

volleyball shoes r made specifically for volleyball: it has good traction and grip. it is also very light weight for quick movement. usually it has a flat bottom part while running shoes have elevated shocks when you jump hurdles and stuff.
running shoes: are light weight but are made for running. in volleyball you dont run too much so running shoes arent realy built for volleyball.

if your new to volleyball i suggest buying running shoes bcuz there really is any need to spend more money for volleyball shoes when running shoes can be used for more than one activity. running shoes are also cheaper. but if your an experienced volleyball player i suggest volleyball shoes if you are commited to the sport.

You need to go get fitted in a running specialty store, rather than try to diagnose and fix things yourself. You could have too much "arch support" already that's causing your problems, for example.

And there are "arch support" insoles out there that would go in many shoes, if that's indeed what you need.

Should I buy running shoes that have cushioned heels (ex: Nike Shox Turbo V style)??? Or should I look for other features?

Shin splints are the result of muscle imbalance. Strong calves, weak shin muscles. To prevent them, lie face down in bed with your toes hanging over the edge. Slowly pull your toes upward against the resistance of the mattress. Hold for 1 or 2 seconds, then repeat. Try to work up to 2 or 3 sets of 10.

Now that you already have the injury, it's best to rest and ice them to relieve the pain. Flat feet don't necessarily require lots of cushioning such as high-arched feet do, but it's more about how you run and what shoe you feel best running in. Continue to do research on running sites and do some experimenting. A good runners' store is your best resource.

What happens if you run with shin splints?

this is my first track season in high school, and i'm actually pretty decent. i've been getting really bad pains in my shins, and one day it was so bad, i couldn't even practice. but now it's not so bad, and its just in my left shin now. Everyone on the team says its shin splint, and it the way i land on my feet when i run. i know how to prevent shin splints now, but how can i get over them? and can i run with shin splints? and how do i know if i have a stress fracture?

If you had a stress fracture you couldn't run. Period. Shin splints are one of the many downsides to running. I've had them so many times but I've always just ran through mine. Try and by shoes with little or no support example track spikes, vibram five fingers, or just go bare foot. This makes you land on your toes which makes you faster and has much less impact. It is the healtiest way to run. Also to help fix them stretch them and drink milk or eat anything with calcium. If it gets really bad then take a few days off. It's not worth hurting yourself. I'm just too stupid to stop. Hope this helps.
