Safe Exercises During Every Stage of Pregnancy
Date updated: May 07, 2007
By Sarah Whitman
Content provided by Revolution Health Group
Whether you were die-hard about fitness before you became pregnant or you are just beginning an exercise routine, staying fit is an important part of your prenatal care. Studies have shown that on average pregnant women who exercise have easier labors, fitter babies and gain less weight, making them less susceptible to weight-related complications like gestational diabetes.

"Women who are athletic often have shorter labors and are able to push more effectively," says Vivian M. Dickerson, M.D., and medical director of women's health programs and care at Hoag Hospital at University of California, Irvine. "They carry their pregnancies without as much back strain and leg strain because they have more core strength," she says.

Studies have also shown that women who exercise during pregnancy recover more easily and are less depressed, probably because they feel stronger and healthier, says Daina Kalnins, MSc, Registered Dietitian and academic clinical specialist for SickKids, Canada's largest center dedicated to improving children's health.

Unless your doctor instructs you otherwise, most low-impact, non-contact exercises should be safe to practice throughout your pregnancy with a few modifications in each trimester. Of course, be sure to discuss any fitness plans â especially if you're just beginning â with your care provider. "Start with something like walking and a little yoga. You just don't want to suddenly throw your body into a total tizzy because it's never done this before," Dickerson says.

The following is a list of dos and don'ts for some common exercises during each phase of your pregnancy.

Walking/Jogging
Walking or jogging is a great way to stay in shape during your pregnancy because it is low-impact and requires little gear and no skill. If you were not exercising before you became pregnant, start by walking for half an hour three days and week and build up to walking or jogging for an hour five or six days a week (be sure to rest at least one day a week). "The important thing is to do exercise about 30 minutes a day, nearly every day," says Robin Elise Weiss, author of The Everything Pregnancy Fitness Book.

As your pregnancy progresses, your center of balance will change, so be sure to wear sturdy walking or running shoes, stay on smooth, level terrain and keep your gaze a few feet in front of you to avoid falling. Also be sure to wear a supportive sports bra, and consider wearing a belly bra, especially in your third trimester and/or if you are running.

Low-Impact Aerobics
Low-impact aerobics are ideal for pregnant women because you can do them indoors and tailor your workout to your level of fitness. Doing aerobics has both cardiovascular and toning benefits. It is important to keep one foot on the ground at all times to avoid falling. And you should not attempt any high kicks or leaps. Contact your local gym to see if it provides a prenatal aerobics class or buy a video tailored for pregnant women.

Stationary Cycling
If you enjoyed biking before you were pregnant, you may want to consider switching to stationary cycling to avoid falling and harming your baby. Stationary cycling keeps you from jostling around, which may be uncomfortable if your breasts are sore or your belly is big. You can also catch up on reading or watching television while you exercise. If your back hurts when you cycle, try a machine that allows you to sit in an upright or reclining position.

Swimming
Swimming is one of the best cardiovascular exercises for pregnant women. Swimming is easy on your joints, builds strong muscles and makes you feel lighter, which is good mental exercise too! Although chlorine is perfectly safe for you and your baby, be sure to avoid water that is too cold or too hot (hot tubs and saunas are off limits) and avoid dirty or polluted water.

Yoga
Yoga can tone muscles, increase circulation and reduce stress, and the breathing techniques you use in yoga can be helpful during childbirth. In fact, many childbirth classes incorporate yoga postures and breathing techniques, so it is good practice for labor and delivery. You may want to attend a prenatal yoga class, especially if you have never practiced yoga before. Most yoga studios offer prenatal classes, which include poses that are safe and comfortable for pregnant women. You'll also get to meet other moms-to-be.

During the first few months of pregnancy, most yoga poses are safe, but it is probably best to avoid any that make you feel as if you are going to fall, including balancing poses like head and shoulder stands. During your second and third trimester, steer clear of poses that strain your abdominal muscles (such as Boat), that strain your lower back (such as Bridges), that cause you to feel lightheaded (such as prolonged forward bends or inversions) or that require you to lie on your stomach. And do not exercise in a room that is hotter than 100 degrees.

Poses that are particularly helpful during pregnancy include Mountain, which will improve your posture; Cobbler, which will help you sit with better alignment; Warrior, which will strengthen your legs and ankles; and Cat, which will stretch your back.

Weight Training
Weight training strengthens and tones your muscles and builds stamina, and you can do it at home or at the gym. If you are a beginner, start with short sets and lighter weights, and move up to more repetitions and slightly heavier weights. If you lifted weights before your pregnancy, you may want to reduce the weight a bit and compensate with more repetitions to avoid straining. The key is to stop before your muscles become too fatigued.

Avoid quick, jerky movements that may injure your joints, which are looser than normal; moves that cause you to bear down like you are having a bowel movement, which can cause dizziness; and walking lunges, which can strain your ligaments. If you're doing exercises that require you to stand still for long periods of time, walk around between sets to keep blood from pooling in your legs.

No matter what type of activity you choose, it is important to keep your heartbeat below 140 beats per minute (you should still be able to carry on a conversation without losing your breath). It is also critical that you drink lots of water before, during and after your workout to avoid dehydration and overheating. As your pregnancy progresses, duration is more important than distance or quality. So if you have been exercising for 45 minutes three days a week, continue to do that even if you cannot squeeze in as many miles or sets as before.

Challenge yourself, but stop short of feeling pain. Also avoid any activities that increase your chance of falling or crashing into something (including other people). And do not exercise at high altitudes. The American Pregnancy Association also advises women in their second and third trimesters to avoid exercises that require them to lie flat on their backs because it may restrict blood flow to their babies.

Remember that being pregnant and delivering a baby is an athletic feat. "The better shape you're in, the more stamina you have and the more familiar you are with your body, the better you're going to do," Dickerson says. "When you're in labor for 12 hours, you've run a marathon as far as I'm concerned. And you wouldn't ever think about doing something like that without training."

Plantar Fasciitis in Young Adults and Teens?

Marnie

I'm 15 and I've had plantar fasciitis for 8 months now, and by going to school, there is only so much walking I can cut back on. I've tried everything- Iontophoresis, Tennis balls, stretching, ice, taping, PT, and NOTHING helps at all! I'd really like to go back to running in the fall, but this awful injury holds me back.

Any suggestions or support?

Answer
Have you tried switching over to orthopedic shoes for additional cushioning and support. They work well in relieving pain caused by plantar fasciitis. If you go to http://www.drewshoe.com , they even sell athletic orthopedic shoes which will be great for when you want to go running.

How can I prevent my flat feet from getting any worse?

Drew L

I have flat feet and am still very athletic. I am very fast and want to be an Olympic sprinter. I am 15. How can I prevent my feet from getting worse?

Answer
Flat feet are a very common foot condition which causes over-pronation and can potentially result in much more serious ailments such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, or shin splints if not treated early.

Proper arch support through orthotic insoles or shoe inserts is an effective solution to foot pain caused by flat feet, and helps to prevent more serious foot ailments.

what is the best running shoe for women in 2008?

Claudia G

Answer
I like going to the runners world website and read their running shoes review. Really there are alot of good running shoes out there. It just depends on what type of runner you are, your foot type (high, low or neutral arch, narrow, wide, etc.), your gait, over/under pronator, etc.

I've run in many types of shoes - Mizunos, New Balance, Nike, Brooks, Merrill, and Asics. So far, Brooks Adrenaline works the best for me for road running and Merrill for trail running. It took me a few different runners to really feel whats best for me. I always go to a specialty running store to get fitted properly - because over the years, your feet do change and technology in runners change.

This website has lots of reliable information with shoe reviews and running stores use this as a guide as well.

How do you make shoes off rule in your home?

best walking shoes japan

Katie

I am moving into a new house with all brand new white carpet installed (not really my choice) and I want to keep it clean. I have done some research and it appears one of the best ways to keep carpet clean is to take your shoes off in the house. I have never lived in a house with this rule and don't know where to start. I have three kids 8, 10, and 12 who wear shoes in the house now, as does my husband. I am not sure how they will respond . What about guests? How do you go from shoes on in the house to a shoes off rule?

Answer
To make this work, you'll need to provide some amenities. Start with a comfortable bench in the front hall (and at any other entrances). There should also be a set of shallow shelves where people can put their shoes. Don't let it get cluttered up with ancient family sneakers, winter boots, etc. A basket containing clean pairs of tube socks and washable slippers for guests to put on would be nice. (Some people would not care to put on slippers others have worn.)

Some people post nice signs saying, "Please remove your shoes when you come in. There are clean socks and slippers available for you to wear."

Your family and friends who visit will soon become accustomed to your new rule, and may even ask to keep a pair of their slippers at your house. These slippers should have smooth soles that won't trap dirt.

Bear in mind that there will be people who for one reason or another will be very reluctant to take off their shoes. Older folks who wear orthotic supports, people who have athlete's foot or plantar warts, people with a foot odor problem, even women who mostly wear high heels and can't walk in stocking feet â if they raise these objections, you'll have to accommodate them.

One problem can come up with people wearing sandals or flip-flops. Perspiration, dust, and dirt come in on the soles of their feet. You can politely request them to put on socks while they're in your house.

You will probably want to vacuum your carpets every day or two, especially in the high-traffic areas. You may have to buy a very strong vacuum cleaner, and make sure it's always working at top efficiency.

Look up some of the other postings on this topic (in the "Search Answers" box at the top of the screen). You'll find some strenuous objections to this whole idea â "I don't want to visit anybody who values their carpets more than my comfort" and so on. Stick to your guns. Make it convenient for your husband and children to shuck out of their shoes. Perhaps their new shoes don't have to be lace-ups. Come up with polite ways to direct visitors to the shoe bench. Countless households in Japan, Canada, and even the USA follow the "shoes off" custom as a matter of course.

What to wear in Tokyo,Japan during the Summer Months?

Rhian

I'm going to Tokyo in a few days, and I was wondering what clothes would be appropriate. My everyday clothing is jeans, a shirt/cardigan and converse or something but will it be to hot to wear jeans? Also, what clothes/shoes should I wear to restaurants in the evening? I'm 14 by the way, around 5'5/6''. Thanks!
Oh and I'm a girl LOL

Answer
Jeans, shorts, capri's, t-shirts, tank tops, will all be fine. It's about 80 to 90 degrees here most days this time of the year but the humidity is high and everything is concreate, and its crowded, so yeah it gets hot. I promise you wont need a cardigan or a hoodie.

Expect to do alot of walking, so converse shoes would be a good choice. People dress freaking crazy here so you might feel a lil out of place just because you are dressed normal for american standards but don't worry about it, if you wear things that are uncomfortable for style reasons here you will be misrable.

I don't know what type of resturant you will be dinning at but bring a couple of dresses, not formal but something casual dressy and something dressy and you should be fine for anything. most places are ok with just casual clothing.

Also bring a small umbrella with you because we are finally getting out of the rainy season but it still rains alot here compaired to summers in the US. If you carry a purse, bring something small that you can wear across your body, around your front side, pic-pocketing is bad here in more crowded areas.

Hoped this helped!

What are must haves to take on a trip to the water park?

Ashley

I am going to a water park with my youth group in a month. Just wondering what I will need and not need. Thanks for the help!!!
I'm a teenage girl no kids stuff

Answer
Don't take anything of value. You are either going to rent a locker or be leaving it in the open where it can be stolen.

I recommend money for the locker rental, split it with a friend.

You might want to bring sunglasses but you won't get to wear them on the ride. Same applies to your shoes, unless you have those water shoes, you are going to be running around barefoot.

You definitely need waterproof sunscreen or sunblock, whatever your preference.

Chap stick with spf.

You also need cash for souvenirs, lunch and snacks, unless you pack those.

Something to pull your hair up with. Also a comb or a brush will probably be nice at the end of the day.

A change of clothes, could just be some undergarments plus whatever clothing you wore over your swimsuit

Towel

Nice extras,
Waterproof disposable camera
Stuff to shower with before you leave (shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, soap, etc.)
Goggles
Snacks
Card games for the bus ride there

Side note, if you wear makeup, and plan on wearing it that day, make sure its water proof.

I hope you have fun!

Does my baby need those traditional white walking shoes?

My baby is 9 months old and walking. We had her measured at Stride Rite, and she is size 3 1/2. They didn't carry any of those walking shoes in her size (at the store). My mom says that she should have those traditional white high ankle style walking shoes to start out with. Are these necessary, because I've seen lots of sneakers in her size, but not that support the ankle. Do babies really need those funny looking white shoes with the ankle support?

Answer
Im sure it is a marketing scam by stride rite haha nah but seriously I didn't put my daughter into shoes until after she could walk so it was after even 1yrs old. We did end up buying her the stride rights though because they did go over her ankles which made it harder for her to slide off & because after buying other shoes/sneakers, they seems a little less heavier.

When I would put her in other shoes she would walk like frankenstein taking huge heavy steps & it looked like she had weights connected to her legs, but the stride rites were the first pair that she wore that she actually didn't mind & didn't spend the whole time trying to tear off her feet.

Anyone know a fix for squeaky orthotics in new walking shoes besides powder?

exnavyew

...(didn't squeak in old shoes). I had this same problem when I bought my previous pair of walking shoes but one dusting of baby powder solved that problem permanently. However, putting baby powder in new shoes is only working for about 1 day and squeaking is back (it's not the shoes, it only squeaks when I insert the orthotics). Anyone know anything else I can try besides baby powder to end the squeaking? thx.

Answer
Corn starch can also work, but if the baby powder is not lasing then this might not last either.
If you keep using the powder, it should eventually work longer.

I'm an over -pronater with collapsed arches but I started wearing inserts to help my arches about a year ago? So now with the inserts I have high, but collapsed arches if that makes any sense. I had calf problems with the Mizuno Wave Inspire 5, but they were fixed with the Wave Nirvana 4 + the inserts. MY knees and hips hurt before I bought the brooks adrenaline gt-10 (recommended to me by the running store guy,yes a specialist),and I was wondering if they would help or harm me..? If I put the inserts in,would it be too much motion control? Female , High school freshman.
-I am a long distance runner,I think my average millage is about 20-30 miles per week?I race 800,mile,2 mile.

-Just went for a half an hour run in them, and my Achilles felt decent while my knees and hips hurt. This could just be me though, because everything has started hurting before I got these shoes.

Answer
I've worn the Adrenalines for years and loved them untill the 9s came out. (I tried the 10s their not as good as the 7s and 8s but much beter then the 9s) Several of my freinds said they like the 10s. I'm willing to say the adrenaline 10s woun't hurt you, though there may be better suport shoes out there.

As for the inserts I would go ahead and put them in, the adrenalines are a moderate suport shoe so the extra suport woun't hurt. Are they custom made orthotics? If so what material?

Your knee and hip pain though may not have anything to do with your shoe or inserts. It could be anything from a tight hamstring or hipflexer to the surfaces you run on. I would recomend Tring to stay on grass and dirt as much as possible and on even sufaces. If your hip pain is only on one side try running on the oppisite side of the road, many roads have slight crowns and always pounding on one side can cause pain particularly if you have any weak mustle groups or if one leg is slightly shorter then the other. (This is actually very comon and usually caused by tightness in the tendons I know it caused me a lot of hip pain). I would also talk to your coach or trainer about core exersizes, and stretches for your hamstrings, quads, calfs and hip flexers, these can help treat and prevent wear and tear type injuries that cause pain. I do mine a couple of hours after I run and spend about 1/2 an hour a day.

One other thing don't pay $99 for those shoes, if you want to buy them online try www.runningwarehouse.com they have excellent prices, free 2 day shipping and easy and free return shipping. You can get espesially good prices if you wait and watch for sales.

Help on running shoes?

Q. I'm trying to find an upgrade for my running shoes, but I have no idea what I'm looking for. I've narrowed my search down to these ones:

http://www.eastbay.com/product/model:137242/sku:10391005/mizuno-wave-nirvana-6-womens/?cm=GLOBAL%20SEARCH%3A%20KEYWORD%20SEARCH

The last two are my favorite, because they have a lower ankle, but I don't know if the high ankle is good for running, it seems like it would constrict a lot of movement. I have size 11 shoes right now, but I measure out around 11.5 or 12. Other than that can I get tips on which would be the best, or what I need to look for in general, thanks!

Answer
My personal opinion out of those would be the pair of Asics. i've had some Asics and I ran them to the ground! I'm no pro at running, just a junior in high school (male) cc/track runner but I easily run 500+ miles per sport season and Asics have done me very well. One thing to take into account is the number of the model. The Asics Gel Cumulus 12 means that there have been 12 generations of the shoe and 13 for the Mizuno pair. I've read from reviews in Runners World Magazine that the Gel Cumulus have an amazing reputation for having an awesome amount of cushioning so my guess would be those would probably last you the longest. One thing to take into account is a lot of Mizuno shoes (at least ones that I've tried on) tend to be semi-narrow and a lot of them are for people with high arches. The Asics pair are probably going to be for more "normal" (regular arched, mild over/under pronaters). So in reality it depends on your body type/ foot type. If your looking for shoes within that price range take a look at the 2150s (or 2160s whatever theyre on now :P) if you haven't yet. I had 2140's and they lasted me a whole track season and almost half of a CC season and were still comfortable. Anyway, I hope I was of some assistance :). I'm also looking for new running shoes as I type this so I wish you the best of luck!!

How to fix the pain in the arch of my foot from running?

best running shoes plantar fasciitis high arch
on Plantar Fasciitis Outside Of Foot
best running shoes plantar fasciitis high arch image

anonymous

Today I ran about 3 miles on the beach barefoot, I thought it would be okay but the sand near the water where I ran was hard and now I am feeling pain in the arch of both my feet. It is pretty painful to walk. What should I do to help the pain? And what would this technically be called?
Also, I run for fun sometimes but I am not an avid runner, nor have I ever ran barefoot before.

Answer
Hello,

First of all I am sorry that you have this pain, it must be frustrating.

It is difficult to tell exactly what is wrong, it could be a lot of things. Perhaps Plantar Fasciitis.
In order to diagnose you better please answer these questions:

1) Do you have high or low arches?
2) Is there any redness or bruising?
3) Where is the pain located exactly in the arch (towards the heel)?
4) What kind of shoes you usually wear?
5) Is it painful to the touch?
6) Are you active in other sports?
7) Is it more painful in the morning?

Here are a few things you can do right now:

1) Ice your feet at least 4 times a day, either by applying ice directly or rolling them over a frozen bottle.

2) Avoid any high impact activities.

3) Wear good quality supportive sneakers and rest when you can.

Again, if you can answer my questions I would be happy to assist you further.
You can write to me directly if you prefer, my email is in my Yahoo profile or itaiw@yahoo.com

Why does the Arch of my feet hurt?

Hi Hi

Everytime I do exercises and running (eg quick feet, star jumps) anything which kind of involves using the arch of my feet, it always starts hurting after a while of exercise. Do anyone have any suggestions on how i could prevent this from happening?

Answer
This problem sounds similar to the one I had. I went to the podiatrist and he told me that I Plantar Fasciitis. The plantar fascia is a thick fibrous band on the bottom of your foot. It is attached to the heel bone (calcaneus) and fans forward toward the toes. It acts like a bowstring and supports the arch and several muscles inside the foot.
Plantar Fasciitis is caused by
â¢Improper and / or non-supportive shoes
â¢Over-training in sports (repetitive micro trauma)
â¢Lack of flexibility (decreased ankle dorsiflexion)
â¢Weight gain (pregnancy)
â¢Obesity
â¢Fat-pad atrophy (decreased cushion on bottom of heel)
â¢Prolonged standing
â¢Prolonged bed rest
â¢Walking / running on hard surfaces
â¢Biomechanical problems (flat feet, high arch feet)
The website http://foothealth.about.com/od/plantarfasciitis/a/PlantarFasciits.htm will give you some tips on how to renew the arches of your feet, but the best way I personnally noticed helps is taking a drink bottle of frozen water and rolling my foot over top of it. There is a lot to be said about stretching the feet before a workout too. Most people just stretch their legs before a run or bike ride, few people actually stretch their feet.
I hope that this helps.

Any time I run 10-15+ miles my socks get drenched with sweat. I feel like instead of running I am water skiing! Granted I live in New Orleans, the hottest, god-foresaken place in the US, or so it seems. This isnt really a problem until the mercury hits about 80-85F. I need a sock that can really move some sweat. I am currently in Nike Dri Fits. Any suggestions?

Answer
Try getting different shoes that are more "breathable." (: Andy maybe asics socks?

What is the best way to get add on the miles in running?

wolfpack1j

I want to be able to run 5-10 miles a day about 3-5 times a week before December. I'm joining the military, and this would help out with bootcamp a lot.

Thanks in advance.
I used to run 2 or 3 miles a lot or basically 5k's. I haven't ran that often the past month or 2.

Answer
Start now. The only way to run longer is to run a few miles every single day.

Get out on the roads and see if you can run 5 miles. Don't stop because you're tired, make a serious effort to complete the run. Then you'll know your upper limit, and you can work on that, every day.

If you need to lose some weight, eat healthier foods. Drink a lot of water. Buy some running shoes. Stretch.

If you do these things, you'll definitely be able to kick your mileage up to what you want by December.

Are Vogue sewing patterns hard to make?

ecugirlie

I found a pattern that I liked for my wedding dress and if they are not that hard to make, I was going to try it.

Answer
Vogue patterns are not for beginning sewers, and can be a challenge to somebody with medium skills. They are designed with a more experienced sewer in mind, even though they do have versions called Very Easy Vogue- I wouldn't exactly call them beginner friendly. The directions are usually pretty basic, as they assume you already know a good bit. It can be frustrating if you don't. However, if you leave yourself time, have patience, and get somebody with some experience to help you, there's no reason why you couldn't do it. But for something like a wedding dress, you are dealing with some expensive fabric for learning on. I'd suggest you make it up in a cheaper cloth, like muslin, to start and learn on. Then after you find all the tricky parts and have some practice under your belt, cut into the expensive stuff. Better to make a mistake on $2.00 per yard cotton than the much more expensive satin and lace. It will also be a good chance to see how much or where any alterations will be needed. Be aware when and if you do buy the pattern that you buy it according to the measurments listed, not by the size you usually buy in the store. Buy it a size larger than your measurements call for, so you will have room to alter and adjust. It's much easier to make a pattern smaller, and take in cloth than it is to let it out where there is no room or fabric. And as the design of most bridal gowns fit much closer to the body than usual, make sure you have and wear the undergarments and shoes you will wear on the day to do the actual fittings in. Otherwise you could have a real ugly surprise on the day of the wedding.
But if you have limited sewing experience, I wouldn't recommend a Vogue pattern for the learning. In that case I would recommend taking the pattern to an experienced seamstress and hiring her to make up the gown. It will save you a lot of frustration and expense in the long run.

NO WAY!
Those women are just trying to be stylish & athletic at the same time. You don't go to the gym in your work outfit & you don't wear running shoes with it either. It's like going to the gym in high heels, it just looks dumb.

Am I going to become any taller?

Danny N

I'm a 15 year old Male, Vietnamese, 5' 4.5".
My Father is 5' 10".
My Mother is 5' 1".
My Sister at the age of 17 is 5' 3".

I'm a total geek and nerd that hangs around the computer for almost all day when I get the opportunity, and I rarely exercise. But when I do exercise, I give myself hardcore workouts that lead to my slightly-above average athletic ability. I can do around 60-75 push ups and 30-50 sit ups in one minute. My best mile run is 7:58.

Even with this, it doesn't make up for the fact that I don't actually exercise DAILY. It would be once every 1 to 2 weeks I do something considered "working out". Maybe sets of push ups and sit ups here and there every other night, but not enough to sweat.

My summer diet consist of ramen or waffles with cereal in the morning (about 400-700 Calories) ramen or rice and a side dish for lunch (about 600-900 calories) and ramen or a special dish (about 500-1200 calories) Other snacks add on to this for 500 Calories(ish)

My Schoolyear diet consist of the same breakfast, and same dinner, but every day the lunch is a different one that consist of 500-1000 Calories. Less snacks.

I weigh 129.9 lbs at the moment, my highest is 138 and lowest is 126, of the age of 15.

This isn't a joke post, my mom and dad keep telling me I'll become short when I grow older. Plus, I seem to be one of the shortest in my 2011 High School Class, excluding females. So I become unconfident in my height.

Will I still grow any taller?

Answer
yoghurt, cheese, and boiled chicken. Your bones need phosphorus, calcium, and magnesium while your muscles need water, protein and carbohydrates to grow. Since you are growing taller, both your muscles and bones are getting bigger and longer. Don't waste your money or your health on drugs, alcohol or cigarettes.

Tips for healthy nutrition
1. Eat at regular hours.
2. Don't skip any meal.
3. Don't forget to eat breakfast. Always start the day with a well-rounded meal.
4. Take the time to taste and to chew your food well.
5. Vary your menu.
6. Avoid pastries, sweets, crisps, soda drinks - anything that has little or no nutritious value.
7. Beware of salt consumption. It can cause hypertension.
8. Eat a lot of raw vegetables and fresh juice. Choose whole wheat bread.
9. Drink six (6) to eight (8) glasses of water or vegetable juice or sugar-free juice per day.
10.You should also drink milk.
11.Eat good quality food supplements every day.
12.After each meal you should rest. Don't start to work or exercise right after.

Have the hair style that makes you appear taller. In order to appear taller, a hair style should be thin at the sides and higher up top, which can make you appear as much as an inch taller Avoid clothes with horizontal lines. Belts are horizontal so make sure you conceal it in your clothes.
Avoid clothes with a tartan or checked pattern. Avoid cuffs that makes your legs appear shorter.

⢠Wear clothes with vertical lines or striping. Vertical lines or stripping make a person appear thinner,
and thinness in turn gives impression of more height.

Wear shoes that will make you appear taller. If you are a female, this should be easy since you can find a lot of female shoes with 2 or 3 inchesâ heels. For males, wear shoes with thick soles to add the illusion of height.

To increase your height, it is important that your blood is oxygenated as blood provides nourishment to your bones. Regular breathing will also purify your blood. There are three phases to breathing:
1. Inhaling - take in air into your body through the nose
2. Retaining - hold your breath inside your body
3. Exhaling - blow out air from your body through the mouth

It is during deep sleep that growth hormone does its job of thickening and lengthening your bones. So appropriate sleeping time (not the longer, the better) and correct sleeping posture is very important for your body to grow. Sleep is defined as a natural periodic state of rest for the mind and body, in which the eyes usually close and consciousness is completely or partially lost, so that there is a decrease in bodily movement and responsiveness to external stimuli.

During deep sleep, growth hormone produced by your pituitary gland is released into your blood stream and travel through your body and causes the thickening and lengthening of your bones. Therefore, you should achieve "deep level" sleep on a daily basis in order to coordinate your affords of exercises and proper diet. The following are some helpful tips on how to easily achieve deep level sleep.

Sleep in a comfortable and firm mattress.
Sleep in a room that is dark, quiet and fresh smelling.
Sleep with clean, soft, and comfortable clothes.
Keep your hands and feet warm. Scientific studies have shown that warm hands and feet will help induce REM (rapid eye movement) deep sleep. Cold hands and feet will keep you from deep sleep.
Drink a big glass of water before going to bed and when you wake up; this will help clean out your system.
Practice total relaxation and deep breathing for a few minutes before you go to bed.
Relax from head to toe. Close your eyes and relax every part of your body.
Maintain a habit of sleeping at the same time everyday, including weekends.
Sleep on your back with a flat pillow under your knees. This will align your spine properly and prevent any back aches caused by sleeping in a bent position.

Undoubtedly, the quality, quantity, and type of food we eat affect our height, growth, and health. We cannot emphasize enough how important your food intake is in determining how much growth you can possibly obtain. The types of food you eat will either improve or decrease your growth potential.
After careful consideration and research, the daily content of protein, carbohydrates, fats and water can be achieved if the following items were taken regularly.

Carrots Fish Liver
Egg Yolk Beef Red Meat
Milk Cheese Apples
Green Vegetables Potatoes Nuts
Yellow Vegetables Almonds Bananas
Peanuts Chicken Beans
Peas Salt 6-8 glasses of water per day

If you eat a lot of peanut butter, your height will not necessarily stop. Neither does masturbation stop height.
What might stop you from growing is smoking, drugs, alcohol, lack of sleep, stress, digestive problems, or lack of exercise.

Height Growth Products : The first approved natural product for height increase is Super-Growth wwww.super-growth.info with this product it is possible to gain additional height growth even after puberty.

What's a good athletic sneaker for me to wear?

Soccer Cra

I've been researching a lot lately about shoes and the different foot types. What I've concluded is that I have normal arches (I used to think I had low arches) and that I'm an under pronator (which I'm very certain of). I've been looking for a good pair of sneakers to fence (epee) in. In fencing, stress is put on the entire leg. I've been doing it for a year now, and I tend to feel pain in my knees and ankles, if I feel pain at all (most of the time I don't, probably because I'm used to it now). I'm a female and I'm on the heavy side. I need a shoe that isn't to bulky. I tried using a pair of basketball shoes but they were too big and bulky and I ended up bruising my foot the first time I wore them. I also need a shoe that has good traction on gym floors. My pair of running sneakers right now (adidas Modulation) feel great, but lack traction on gym floors.
Please suggest somethings that can help me find a good shoe for a decent price (I try to stay below $70)
-My current running shoes: https://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1139485/adidas-climawarm-modulation-high-performance-running-shoes-men.jsp
-These are a pair of shoes that caught my interest a while ago. No matter what I research though, I can't find a good answer as to if they would work for me: http://www.adidas.com/us/product/womens-running-adipure-ignition-shoes/CP197?cid=G61711&breadcrumb=1z13071&search=adipure+motion&cm_vc=SEARCH
Also, any ideas how to solve my ankle problems? The problem comes and goes; It tends to happen often when I run, or sometimes walk. It's only become a problem in recent years. I started noticing in summer of 2011. Thanks.

Answer
Unfortunately, there is no such thing as the best running shoe so any recommendations will only be the personal preferences of individuals who will not have the same foot type as you.

The "best" running shoes for an individual is the one with the design features that match the characteristics of your foot. Without knowing the characteristics of your foot, it is not possible to make any recommendations.

I strongly suggest that you go to a specialty running shoes store and let them check you and follow their advice.

Are shoe sizes different now or are shoes sizes small?

Question

The reason i asked is because I have a small foot for a man, I only measure a size 9 but I wear a 10 or even a 10 1/2 in gym shoes. I think the average for a men is 10 1/2 and women wear a 9.

Answer
I have a big foot and i fell that they are. I find sizes are different in different brands. ex. nike runs small for me and american eagle runs bigger

Answer
1. Predict gun deaths in
2005 = ? (36038) ---no: -1777(5) + 27,153 = -8885 + 27,153 = 18,268.
2008 = ? (41399) ---no: -1777(8) + 27,153 = -14,216 + 27,153 = 12,937.
The predicted number of gun deaths will be 9383 in the year ? =(1989).
---no.
9383 = -1777x + 27,153.
Subtract 27,153 from both sides, giving
-17,770 = -1777x.
Divide both sides by -1777, giving
x = 10 --> year = 2010.

#2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 38, 43 are all correct.

3. ---correct: plot the points (6,0) and (0,5); draw a line through them; shade the half-plane below (and including) the line.

5. Solve the following system of equations. Equation one: x + 8y = 9. Equation two: x = 3 - 8y.
What is the solution of the system? (solution is (3,5))
---no.
Since x = 3 - 8y, substitute this in Equation one: x + 8y = 9 becomes (3 - 8y) + 8y = 9, which simplifies to 3 = 9. This is wrong, so the system has no solution.

7. Evaluate z + y/9 for z = 44 and y = 10. (55/9)
---no.
If this is (z+y)/9, it's (44+10)/9 = 54/9.
If this is z + (y/9), it's 44 + 10/9 = 396/9 + 10/9 = 406/9.

14. Graph the system of inequalities. y ⥠-4; x ⥠5. (My graph shows (5, -4) colored to the right)
---The graph includes the point (5,-4), the line y = -4 to the right of that, the line x = 5 above that, and the quarter-plane included between those lines (above and to the right of them).

18. Use the distributive property to help you solve the equation. x(w-2) = -10 (w=0)
---There is not enough information to solve it. There are two variables but only one equation.

20. Decide whether the pair of lines is parallel, perpendicular, or neither. The lines are (parallel)
---Lines are parallel if they have the same slope; perpendicular if their slopes are negative reciprocals (such as m and -1/m); neither, if neither of these conditions is met.

25. (solution is {x|x ⥠5}) (graph is closed circle at 5 moving toward the left)
---no.
Solve for x: 6x ⥠10 means x ⥠10/6, or x ⥠5/3. Solution: {x|x ⥠5/3}; closed circle at 5/3, moving toward the right.

26. ---correct; each of the two lines is a function.

29. ---correct: open circle at -1, moving to closed circle at 6.

37. The function H described by H(x) = 2.75x + 71 can be used to predict the height in cm of a woman whose humerus is x cm long. Predict the height of a woman whose humerus is 36 cm long. (170.48 cm)
---almost correct. 2.75(36) + 71 = 99 + 71 = 170.

39. Amy paid $85.35 for a pair of running shoes during a 40% off sale. What was the regular price? ($85.75)
---no.
40% off means that the new price is 60%, or 0.6, of the old price. If x = 0.6y, then y = x/0.6.
$85.35/0.6 = $142.25.

40. Translate to an algebraic expression. The product of 19% & some number. (translation is .10n)
---no. 19% = 0.19, so the product is 0.19n.

41. Solve by elimination method. 2r - 7s = 4; 7r + 2s = 67. (there is no solution)
---no.
Multiply the first equation by 7, giving
14r - 49s = 28.
Multiply the second equation by 2, giving
14r + 4s = 134.
Subtract:
14r - 49s = 28
-(14r + 4s = 134)
-------------------------
-53s = -106, so
s = 2.
Substitute this in one of the equations:
2r - 7(2) = 4, or
r = 9.

42. Solve the graph. y - 2 > -17. (solution is {y|y > -15}; graphed from -15] toward the left on the line.)
---almost. The graph goes rightward from an open circle at -15.

44. In 1991, the life expectancy of males in a certain country was 61.2 yrs. In 1998 it was 63.5 yrs. Let E represent the life expectancy in yr & let t represent the # of yrs since 1991. (The linear
function E(t) that fits the data is E(t) = 0.0t + 61.2. Predict the life expectancy of males in 2004 is E(13)=65.1)
---just about right, although the function should be E(t) = 0.32857t + 61.2.
With this, E(13) = 65.5 yr (65.47, rounded up).

45. ---correct, in an absolute sense; in practice, since the service is charged by whole months, she would be able to receive 2 whole months of service and have $10 left over.

I need a new pair of running shoes, i'm an overpronator, and i have a medium arch. Most of the ones i've been finding for overpronators say "for flat footed, heavy runners" i'm definitely not flat footed or heavy, i have a smaller build, i'm 5'8 and weigh 145lb. Any suggestions?

Answer
if you find running shoes that are gray on the insides of the rubber sole, they're motion control shoes.

my shoes are asic gels. all my running shoes are asics but i love nike as well. id go with them.

but dont go to like sorts authority modells or anything. the people there 99% wont know what theyre talking about. go to a specialy running store to get your shoes, they'll find you the best ones(:

What type of running shoes should i get?

iPlayCOD

I am flat-footed and a overpronator, and I do not know what type of running shoes that is really good for my feet. I was thinking about getting the Nike Lunarglide +4 or the Free 4.0. But, what type of shoe do you recommend for my feet? Thanks.

Answer
i myself am too a overpronator , i'm currently using SketchersGorun but am deciding to switch to nike lunarglide 4+ cause i feel that it has more support for my feet cause i'm a midfoot striker . I've done some research for you and it seems that Nimbus shoes is good for long distances and suitable for your feet too, but i still think its better to go and approach the sales person in order to find the most suitable shoe for you. So Good Luck! (:

I'm shopping for a new pair of Brooks Adrenaline running shoes. I currently wear the GTS 8 style. I've found GTS 7 for sale cheaper. Are they the same shoe but last years model?

Answer
I run in Brooks Adrenaline GTS8. The significance is the model year that they were manufactured. EXAMPLE: GTS 4, made in 2004, GTS5, made in 2005, and so forth.

Are trail running shoes the best choice for running high school Cross Country?

Light Yaga

I have used the Fila Trexa Men's Running Shoes (or well a similar model) for about a year now and its time for a new pair. I have had nio problem with this type of shoe and almost bought a pair just like them. But i would like some better insight on trail running shoes (Like the Men's Brooks
Cascadia 6), would these shoes work for a floridian high school cross country runner?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
You don't really want trail running shoes. You're gonna want a normal trainer for your every day runs, and spikes for the races (unless you run on roads like California does sometimes. Then you want flats)
