Best Running Shoes for Women?

annablue

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on a good woman's' running shoe. I used to jog a lot but for the past several years have had different problems with my knees, as well as having an operation on my foot around 6 years ago, and to top it off, I have a very bad case of calcific tendinitis in my rotator cuff, which I don't want to aggravate, either. My dr. had told me not to jog anymore, so I spent last summer doing a lot of walking, etc., instead. I still miss jogging though, and he has told me if I really want to jog then I should do it on a track of some sort instead of just on the sidewalk. Anyway, I have a couple of pairs of sneakers, I believe that they are both Rykas; the last pair I bought I went a half size up at the suggestion of the salesperson; apparently they run a bit small. I have liked them fine until all the walking I did in them last summer, but now I'm not sure that they are the best shoe for me. Disgustingly enough I have developed some toenail fungus which I am trying very hard to get rid of; having read the different things that can cause this I learned the shoes that don't fit properly are one culprit. These shoes do seem to make me toes hurt a little, especially the little toes, yet they aren't too small, any larger and they would be too big.
I'm just basically hoping someone who has joint problems like I do may be able to direct me towards a line of shoes that can be used for anything from walking/hiking, biking, and jogging, with the least amount of joint damage. Thanks in advance for any help!

Running shoes?

soccersobc

I just have a few questions about running shoes.

1 Is it really worth blowing a hundred dollars for a pair of running shoes?(I a 14 year old with little cash to spend on such expensive shoes)For example, has anyone bought cheap shoes and ended up being injured because of the shoes?

2 How often should a runner replace his/her shoes?(I usually run about 4 miles five days a week)

3 What is the running shoe for the money?

Answer
I work at a specialty running store in California and im also a competitive runner. I have worked with running shoes for years and know that brands like asics, brooks, new balance, nike, misuno, adidas, sacony and a few others have great long distance running shoes. It all depends on what type of shoe you need (neutral, stability and motion control) and how you want it to feel. If you over pronate (your feet and/or ankle role inward) than you need a shoe with some stability (stability=grey material on the inner arch of the shoe or with mizuno is more radical wave like on the Inspire) to support your foot so it can run neutrally. A neutral shoe has white all around the base and is for people who supinate (roll out while toeing off) or for people who donât over pronate. Motion control is for people who over pronate like crazy or for rare conditions like surgery on the foot.

Each brand caries all three types of shoes; they just feel different for each brand.
Asics and Brooks are two brands that have a happy medium feel where most of the population will buy a shoe from them so itâs safe to by from them and if you donât like them; try New Balance.

Fit:
This is a list of what foot type usually works with each brand (this is not always right, but it is most of the time).
Adidas: high arch
Sacony: high arch
Nike: normal to high arch
Asics: normal to high arch
Brooks: normal to low arch
Mizunno: normal to low arch
New Balance: low arch

Price:
When you buy a running shoe the price should be about $85 and up for a new style. If you go to an all-a-round sports store, the shoe should cost $65 and up unless youâre buying an Asics 2110 for $45. The shoes around $85 dollars and up usually are lighter and last longer. A good place to buy shoes is the running center or www.runningcenters.com
(all online orders are 10% off)

Shoe life:
Depending on your weight and how you run, the shoe should last about 400-500 miles until you need a new pair. Running on worn-out shoes is one of the best ways to get injured. I have see shoes last about 900, but donât chance it.

I have a high arch and a couple shoes work for me.
I currently run in asics (DS trainers), nike (Vomero), New Balance (1061) with a DS trainer liner. I race in adidas (adizero). I still want a pair of the new brooks (Adrenalin) and I know they work for me and feel good.
I use different shoes for different workouts; thatâs why I have so many (I also work at a running store so get a BIG discount and some are free for testing^_^).

Women Runners??

V

I am thinking about starting a jogging/running exercise program to lose a few pounds that I gained recently from stress. I have heard negatives and positives about running, especially for women. Can someone give me their running plans, experiences, etc.

Answer
I really enjoy running. At first it is going to seem like work, because your body is gradually adapting to the stresses of running, but after a while, it becomes a part of your life and it's hard to live without exercising / getting that endorphin rush.

If you are starting off running, I suggest taking it slow. Perhaps run 1/4 mile and walk 3/4 of a mile and gradually build up to running over the course of 3 weeks. The reason for this is that you want to build your muscles / system to accomadate the stresses of running. Doing too much, too soon is a certain path to injury and ultimately disliking running.

If you succeed at getting into a daily habit, consider signing up for a local 5K race. They are competitive but you don't need to be a speedster to do well. You'll find other people who are runners and it becomes a social event in some cases.

There are plenty of good books that you can find at Borders. Also consider getting a subscription to http://www.runnersworld.com or http://www.runningtimes.com to learn more about the sport, apparel, and tips / tools.

Just remember to build up slowly and give yourself some rest days. Running is tough on the body and has its host of injuries. However, most can be avoided by sensible training and the right shoes.

Feel free to drop me a line if you need more suggestions / info.

Good luck.

Women's running shoe for a supinator with flat feet?

Belle B

I currently run around 10-15 miles weekly and the shoe that I have is a Saucony Mirage 2 it's a motion controlled shoe. Anyway I have noticed that I am now getting shin splints and the outside toe along the side of the foot is completely worn but the inner foot and heel are not which leads me to think that I'm a supinator. My feet are flat. Like seriously McDonald's probably has more arches than I do. So can anyone suggest a neutral type shoe or any shoe that would be good for my feet? I would have gone and gotten my foot analyzed but it so doesn't have that in my country. Thanks for the answers. If it helps I run only 5k and 10k races. No trail running.

New running shoes and hip pain?

janitor_ha

I've been running for 2 years now,5-6 times a week,my runs range from 4-7 miles,i've never had any issues with any kind of pain.Last week I bought a pair of Nike Dual Fusion running shoes, and on the first run my left leg had pain in it.And if eventually progressed to pretty bad left hip pain.Took 3 days off from running, and the pain was gone yesterday so I ran 4 miles.Felt good.Woke up this morning and my left hip is pretty darn sore again.Could it be these shoes are cuaseing me the pain? I just paid $70 for them and have worn them on 7 runs with a total of 34 miles on them...

Answer
You may be dealing with an IT band irritation like ITBS because the shoes aren't giving you the proper stability or cushioning like your old ones. Or they may be too firm and that is causing the issue.

$70 is really cheap for a pair of shoes. If you are a regular runner you should be going with a much better quality shoe (especially a better brand than Nike). I really dislike Nike for long distance running because they don't make any good long distance running shoes. They make good track shoes or cheapo shoes for people who don't do serious running or serious miles. But they aren't the best shoe for people who are serious about running and log a decent amount of milage.

A good idea would be to go to a running store (not just a sporting goods store) and have them put you on a treadmill (bring the Nikes) and see how the Nikes are cushioning your foot, then try on some more quality brands like Asics, Brooks, Mizuno's, Saucny's etc.
If you are a serious runner you should go for a higher quality shoe. Anything too much under $100 is really just meant for fashion, not function.

Try to see if the store you bought them from will take them back. I know many running stores allow returns on shoes that cause injury.

have bunions need athletic shoe with round toe box?

jar_KY

having really hard time finding shoes

Answer
Go To Google and type in running shoes round toe box! Loads to choose from.

What kind of athletic shoes would be best for me?

Bekah

Okay, so I have a unique foot. I wear size 12 in women's (or size 10 in men's, sometimes I have to buy men's). I have bunions on both feet, but they are not too big yet since I'm only 17. I have very high arches and on my right foot I have a toe that has a fungus in it (gross, I know, we are treating it with medicine).

Anyways, I need a pair of athletic shoes around $70 (could pay more if necessary), that will be comfortable because of my high arches and bunions, and will not squeeze my big toe. I am not a runner so I simply need casual walking or hiking shoes if needed (I live in a mountainous area so I hike sometimes). Any suggestions would be awesome! Professional advice even better. Thanks!
Specific types would be best. Thanks!

Answer
It's impossible to recommend any type or brand of shoe, you need to try them on, and see which fit you best.

Everyone's feet are different, and most brands of shoe are different, so it's up to you to try on different brands, and see which ones suit your feet the best.

If you want athletic shoes then go along to a reputable running store near where you live, and ask them which ones they recommend.
If it's a good store they will let you try on as many pairs as it takes for you to find a pair that suit you. If they won't, walk out and find another store. Once you find a store that will help you, go back there for your next pair of shoes, they have earned it.

My wife has bunions, and she usually has to wear men's running shoes because they are usually wider than women's, which I see you also have to do sometimes.

What is the style/fashion in 2013/2014?

Q. for winter, fall, spring, summer

Answer
Style 101: What are the top fall/winter fashion trends for 2013?
Jennifer McLeodFashion Modeling Examiner

October 7, 2013
The fall season marks the beginning of cooler temperatures and preparation for the upcoming holidays. The Huffington Post, Glamour, Harperâs Bazaar and Cosmopolitan help modern muses stay in vogue through fall/winter's hottest trends.

Winter White
On the runway this season, head-to-toe winter white makes one of the strongest impressions. Derek Lam, Proenza Schouler and Tommy Hilfiger notes this easy to assemble season-spanning shade, is a no-brainer addition to the most wearable trends list. Glamour magazine notes, when the temperature's low, the tendency is to reach for dark colors, but why not grab a winter white piece instead? A chic coat fits in at the office, and denim works for the weekend. Do save flouncy pieces for spring by choosing weather-appropriate staples such as chunky knits, heavier materials and designs that make sense in autumn.

Lady Fairytale
Erotically charged is fall-winter 2013/2014's lady. Collections show lingerie inspired pieces featuring romance and mystery in capes, high necks and grand silhouettes. Robes of cardinals, monks, nuns and priests are the inspiration behind some of the season's most note-worthy shows.

Academically-Inspired
Back-to-school is synonymous with fall, collections by Tory Burch saw crisp button-ups layered underneath cardigans worn with tweed pants, Chanel dresses up tweed in their Haute Couture collection through skirts and suits while Alice + Olivia runs with argyle and plaid. Patterns are classic; pinstripes and leopard make appearances on the runway while houndstooth is a breakout star.

50 Shades of Gray, Blue and Green
Not everything is black or white. Fall's runways are rife with the in-between, from charcoal to slate, consider it the new neutral. The fall 2013 runways showcase a wide range of cool blue hues, from navy to Valentino's cobalt jumpsuit to Prada's ladylike sky-blue gingham sheath, while declared the âitâ color of 2013, emerald and shades of green appear in collections by Phillip Lim, Pantone, and Carolina Herrera.

Vintage Inspired-Mod-Mini Dresses-Pleated Skirts-Autumn Florals-Grunge
Diana Argon showcases Marc Jacobs spring/summer take on floral patterns in â50s style, while the '60s mod era influences capes, thigh-high boots and Twiggy-inspired mini-dresses. Calvin Klein and Celine borrow from theâ70s and early â80s with their high waists and pleats, while the grunge spirit of the '90s fits right into the mold of fallâs tough-girl approach to layered styling shown at Rodarte.

Leather
Some of the best fashion houses from Chanel to Vionnett show this season's rebel woman with wardrobe including zips, chains and studs. Leather embellishments and details appear on collars, blouses, t-shirts, jackets, skirts and pants.

Accessories- Shoes-Outerwear
Finally, designers spared no angular line or boxy shape in their new structural bags and
handheld accessories. Itâs been more than a few years since thigh-high boots re-introduced themselves, while smaller heels, color blocking and flats make appearances complimenting hats, gloves and statement coats for go-to trends of the season.

I don't know what shoes to get for my graduation?! HELP!?

Q. So my grad is quite aways from now but I like to have everything organized and in advanced so I know how everything will look and turn out except I'm having a dilemma with what kind of shoes to get to match my dress..

This is my dress:
http://alyceparis.com/prom/alyce-prom-dresses-2013/silky-chiffon-strapless-prom-dress-6084.html

So I know silver sparkly shoes would probably look really good but almost EVERY girl always wears them and I don't really want to. I mean, I obviously will if they look the best but I want to ask your guys opinion on what others color shoes might look good or if I should just go with silver. I was thinking something like purple or pink even?

Examples:
Pink - http://www.amazon.com/Enzo-Angiolini-Womens-Showyou-Peep-Toe/dp/B006ZI6A2S/ref=sr_1_8?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1351656545&sr=1-8&keywords=peep+toe+heels
or
http://www.amazon.com/Inch-Sequins-Shoes-Glamour-Pumps/dp/B009DQ4GO8/ref=sr_1_6?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1351656695&sr=1-6&keywords=peep+toe+heels
The above link in the colors you can see the pink and silver shoes which I could get.
I havent really found a good example of a nice lavender or purple shoe I like yet so if anyone could show me some links to some, or give me some links to really good shoe stores that I could order from too would be helpful. Thank you!
Maybe even a blue like the blue in the beading just under the bust of the dress?

Answer
I'm graduating this year too! And like you, I'm already thinking about what I'll be wearing to graduation, prom, etc. I love planning ahead, lol. Alright, so, I'm assuming you're choosing the white dress as that's the typical color for graduation dresses - if I'm wrong, I'll update this with suggestions for whatever color you choose! And as you know, with the ugly gown covering your dress, your shoes are going to be a main focus point. I really love the 4 inch sequined silver shoes, which as you said would perfectly match everything. You also have to take into consideration you don't want your shoes to class with your graduation gown, such as wearing pink shoes with ... I dunno, I really can't think of any suggestions, but I'm sure you understand what I mean. Other alternatives are even making your own shoes. Find a pump or flat that you like, and turn it into a glitter shoe in whatever color you prefer. (http://joythebaker.com/2012/05/how-to-make-summer-city-shoes/) Maybe create a design on whatever shoe you choose to make it your own. Sorry this isn't much more help, it's late here and I'm running on caffeine. cx Good luck with choosing though, and Class of 2013 all the way. ;D

do Adidas athletic shoes have good arch support?

..........

Answer
I have been running in Adidas running shoes since the 80's and can attest to the fact that Adidas makes great shoes with excellent arch support.

Each shoe manufacturer makes several different models each designed with different types of athletes and uses in mind. You should talk with a knowledgeable shoe salesman in a running specialty store (check your phone directory for their location) about what you are looking for in a shoe and your running.

You might wind up buying a pair of Adidas or possibly a pair of shoes from another company.

What is most important is not the brand but the construction and fit of your shoe.

Use this advice for choosing any type of athletic shoe.

what athletic shoes seem to be best for arch and heel support?

DrPepperme

Answer
It's important that you know your gait type before you buy any shoes.

There are 3 types out there. Flat or normal, cushion, and motion control. If you over pronate, you need motion control, and if you underpronate, you need cushion. If you have a normal gait, then you need a normal shoe.

Depending on the type of shoe, it will have various amount and types of arch support.

In general, if you have a high arch, you need cushion shoes, and if you have a low arch or flat feet, you need motion control.

If you are running, you should go to Yahoo! YellowPages and look up "Running shoes" and go to a local store that will watch you run in the shoe you buy. They will make sure you have minimal pronation to save you from repetitive stress injuries.

You need to be sure you're getting the right type of shoe for your activity too.

Then, if you need additional support for your arch and heel, you should get some inserts or even custom orthotics.

Running shoes in general will have more arch and heel support than other shoes because your heel strikes the ground so hard when you're running.

What would happen to a man's feet in mens size 11 shoes if he wore a womens size 11 for a long period of time?

derb

Since it is a such smaller size, Would it reshape the man's feet to be accustomed to women's shoes?
Lol i'm not asking about the toes shape, nor the orientation of the foot. I am asking about the shape of the foot overall because of the difference in how womens shoes are shaped. can I get an intellectual answer?

Answer
I don't think you would be able to get your feet into a women's size 11 of you wear a men's size 11. Men's shoes (in the US) run two sizes smaller than a women's shoe. So a men's size 11 would be a women's size 13. Otherwise, I believe that you would probably have some discomfort depending on exactly what shoe and how differently they are shaped.

Good Golf Shoes question?

Haley

I want to get a good pair of golf shoes for my dad. what are some good names? i want ones that are comfortable and stylish. i heard good things about the Adidas tour 360, i need a guy's opinion though.

Answer
The general concensus is Footjoy. These are as comfortable as my athletic shoes.
The problem with European shoe makers is the size difference.I have four pair of Pumas;but all have different sizes.

Plus Footjoys are durable.

What golf shoes should I get?

extreme

So I'm looking at the adidas tour 360 4.0, and the Nike Zoom trophy. I like them both and it's a tough decision. Help please!!

Answer
Just purchased a pair of Tour 360's (4.0)...I've always been a DryJoys user but I really like these Adidas 360's.

I like the 360's because they're a bit more stable than the DryJoys were; my foot isn't rolling over as much and the cushioning is more than comfortable. Wore them last Sunday when I played 36 holes and felt great afterwards. The only negative is that apparently you have to use Adidas replacement spikes; I've always used Black Widow replacements on my DryJoys and can't use them.

The sizing for Adidas ran a bit smaller (I wore a 10 in DryJoys but I went up a full size to an 11 in Adidas) than I was expecting. I found that FootJoy tended to be similar sizing to dress shoes while Adidas tended to run similar to running/athletic shoes but others may have different senses.

Best of luck either way.

Whats a good pair of mens running shoes that look good with jeans, are stylish and are comfortable?

ed f

I need a nice pair of running shoes just to walk around in for some extra comfort when i go to the city. I also want them to look good with jeans (I.E. no outrageous colors). Any suggestions??

Answer
I would recommend that you check out zappos.com, they have a huge selection and the beauty of it is that if you don't like the shoes/clothes(whatever you buy) or they don't fit, you can return them for free..the shipping is super fast as well. I really can't say enough good things about them.

I would also like to add in that normally "real" running shoes..don't normally look good with jeans..nikes, or pumas which I dont consider to be running shoes might be a better bet.

Good luck!

Good running shoes for the overpronator?

U Don Know

Im flat footed and need some new running shoes. Im wondering which shoes will be effective for my feet. Ive looked at the Asics Gel 1110 (http://www.zappos.com/images/718/7189790/827-185538-d.jpg). Idk whether these are gud for a person with flat feet like me. Are these good for me? If not, does anyone know any good shoes for overpronation that are fairly cheap?
thx for wut u gave me but my main question was whether asics gel 1110 on that site were gud for me or not. and if they WERENT, then give me another option.

Answer
Visit this site- you can find the perfect shoe for you http://www.sportsshoes.com/search/query.php or alternatively visit a running shop & any member of staff will be able to quickly give u a great shoe. the Asics Gel 1110 is a good shoe for a mild overpronator requiring cushioning and mild support in a high mileage training shoe, plus its not too expensive.

How can I give a shoe arch support?

ana

A few weeks ago, I bought Nike Compete 2, a running shoe. A little more than a week ago, my legs gave me intense pain in the calves and lower leg. A coach told me that if the shoe bends in the middle, it doesn't have good arch support, which is why I have shin splints. What can I do to give the shoe arch support? I already have gel heel pads.

Or should I just wait longer to break the shoe in?

Please & Thank you

Answer
You can buy arch supports for your shoes. Your athletic training might be able to make you some (not the best quality) or he put some tape on your leg to help w/ the shin splints. For the shin splints lay down w/ your legs elevated while putting a bag of ice on them. Also buy compression wraps to help as well.

What are the best running shoes with orthotics?

JBABS

I just got orthotics cus my arches are really high and had a foot injury. I usually get Aasics for running, but was wondering what others use with orthotics. Thanks.

Answer
Most major brands of shoes will work with an orthodic, the problem is you must get a neutral shoe.
If you get a shoe that is designed to correct over pronation and your orthodic is designed to either do the same or opposite thing then you could have a problem.
The doctor that made your inserts should have a list of shoes that will work for you.
Of you can ask a clerk at a running shoe store that knows something about the shoes they sell to show you some neutral shoes.

Orthotics in Shoes Other Than Running Shoes?

Rabbitman

I dont run. I hate running shoes. They are extremely ugly and unnessecary. My foot doctor made me get some retarded $400 orthotics. I don't run and never will run.

Do I need to wear running shoes with these things or can I wear more casual shoes?

Answer
You can only wear Orthotics in closed in shoes, so you can wear some casual closed in shoes with them in to fix your foot posture. If you never wear closed in shoes than you won't be able to your Orthotics. Which would have been a waste of $400. So if you never wear closed in shoes you should start wearing them but they don't have to be runners.

Good running shoe for me?

Bwo11

I have wide feet with a low arch. I typically wear skating shoes because when i walk in them, my feet don't hurt.

Anyways, I've been running in new balances that are the "grandpa" style, with a bit of an arch and they are pretty thin. Lately, the area around my ankle has been hurting, and I'm more prone to shin splints. I also can't jump on my toes for a while or my arch will hurt.

Are there any good shoes I can wear that will solve this problem?

Answer
Information about some running shoes and spikes for hardcore runners:

Key for running shoes -

The better the shock absorption is the better the shoe is. Whenever possible, it is best to try them on before a purchase.

An ideal shoe will fit your foot like a slipper. Your running shoes are the key to staying injury free. Knowing how to use them will enhance your speed. You can wear any type of shoe you want for training in. But you should have a second pair of shoes just for racing in.

Oversize Trainers To Improve Your Speed -
The best type of trainer to wear is one that is either a half or full size too large for your feet. Buy a high quality cushion inset sole and place it in the shoe. This gives your feet added shock absorption protection. This could be a big help against Shine Splints. If one foot is longer than the other, buy the trainers based on the longest foot.
Except for hurdlers practicing their hurdle form, use this shoe for all of your running practices, including high speed sections. When you change shoes for races, you will find that your feet feel light and that your race time results are constantly on the speedy end of your speed range.

Shoes For Racing In:
A racing shoe (flats or spikes) that properly fits your foot and used for race purpose only, will enhance your speed. These shoes are normally very light but do not support your feet like trainers. You can make many brands of racing shoes feel very comfortable for use without soaks by placing a thin, soft cushion, flat insole in it. Replace the insoles when they begin to show signs of wear or when they are flat in your impact area. Insoles and arch supports can be bought in some grocery stores. If you use arch supports, place it in your racing shoe too. If one foot is longer than the other, buy this pair of shoes based on the shortest foot. However, if the toes on the longer foot are knuckling up in the shoe, then the shoes are too short - get a longer pair.

Hurdler shoe issue:
Shoes play a huge part of helping a hurdler be fast, especially in the short distance hurdles. This is not practical, but hurdlers need three pairs of track shoes. They need their proper foot fitting racing spikes, they need a pair of proper fitting running shoes for hurdle work practices only and, they need their oversize comfortable running shoes with extra cushion protection for all other running activities.

Wearing Spikes To Train In:
There are times when using spikes in a training section is very important to the athlete. Sprinters, hurdlers, pole vaulters, javelin throwers; long, triple and, high jumpers should wear their spikes when trying to calibrate their steps and starting block position. Once the measurements have been established with your spikes on, take them off and put on your trainers. Use your trainers to find the location of your established starting points. The order of finding your points should be with spikes first and then with trainers, never the other way around. This is because trainers vary too much in size, shape and, length for the same size foot - change your trainers and you change the dimension of your foot. For this group of people, knowing how to find your precise starting points with your racing shoes on, assures you a consistent range of high end results for your discipline.

Vegan shoes with arch support?

flobberwor

After plenty of searching, I'm skeptical as to whether these even exist. I'm looking for some shoes that are not made with leather and have good arch support (which I desperately need). Anything decent-looking and not made in a sweatshop would be especially appreciated.

Answer
if u cannot find, u can buy insoles with extra arch support to put inside shoe.

u looking for dress shoes or athletic? hard to find any shoes not made in low cost labor countries, even big brands. some synthetic new balance shoes made in US. contact company.

What are some good running shoes for kids?

Q. I'm 13 years old and take a kids shoe.

Answer
Sauconey makes kid's shoes... and they're a really good brand. Nike is okay, some people really like Nike running shoes. I'm 13 and I get the same shoes as adults... just in a smaller size.

Lacing Running Shoes?

Dav B

During school and practice, I always see kids wearing running shoes that are loose, the ends are just out of the last eye lit. Every time I try to do that with my running shoes, it just doesn't seem right. How do you do it?

Answer
Running in loose shoes is not good- it means your foot is not properly supported which can lead to injury. Keep going the way you are going and you'll be fine.

How is it possible that I went from a Motion Control Shoe to a Neutral Running shoe?

BringBackB

Back in March, I was diagnosed as having severe ankle roll-in and put in a straight lasted running shoe. however, 8 months later, its time to buy new running shoes. I go into a large, expert store and they tell me that I am way over-corrected and need neutral shoes with lots of padding.
Was I misdiagnosed the first time around?
I did lose 10 lbs, would that make a difference?
Can people's running habits change so that they no longer need the motion control, and go back to a neutral shoe?
The motion control shoes ended up actually hurting my knees and hips in the end, although they were perfect when i bought them.

Answer
It is possible that you have gained strength in your ankles and legs and no longer roll with foot plant so you don't need motion control any more.
It is not the habit as much as your muscles controlling your foot plant and leg action.
