do doc martens run small?

sprinkles

i found some docs i want, they are a women's UK 7 size 7. UK 7 is supposed to be the equivalent of a US 9. i am a US 8. i really want these boots. is it possible that they are actually my size? do they usually run a little small? is it better to get docs one size bigger than your own?

Answer
i used to work at a shoes store and i noticed they run pretty true to size, i would get your normal size, unless your foot is pretty narrow then you may want to go down 1/2 a size.

Where can I buy womens shoes in UK size 9?

theodorais

Hello, I'm 17 years old and have UK size 9 feet I've searched high and low for shoes in my size but have been unable to find anything for women. I'm fed up of living in converse and running shoes, I reaaally want something I can wear to college and all the shoes I find in big sizes for women tend to be patent leather high boots made for transvestites or american websites who don't ship to the UK.
Thankyou so much for your help I'm becoming a bit desperate :)

Answer
I have the exact same problem - I'm a size 9 too and usually living in converse. I recently bought a few pairs of ballet shoes/pumps from a shop called French Sole in Central London. They had some nice shoes, but were VERY expensive! One site I have used is tallgirls.co.uk which seems to be pretty good, you just need to order fast before your size goes. I think there are a few other sites similar to this one, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.
I would advise checking out tallgirls, and I hope this has helped as I know how frustrating this problem is!
Good Luck!! :]

Best XC running shoe?

ParTEEgrl2

Im new to XC and was wondering which type of shoe would be best for me to run with. Thanks:)

Answer
running shoes vary from person to person. they depend on running style, form of your foot,

I would recommend looking for a store called A Snail's Pace Running Shop near you. They'll analyze your foot form and type (arch width/length) and your stride (how you run). Usually, they make you step on a memory foam to see the shape of your footprint. They ask you what your plans are for running (trails, track, cement, long distance etc.) Then, they'll recommend the best shoe for your needs.
Here's a link to their page
http://www.runasnailspace.com/

you can also find a Road Runner. They'll do pretty much the same thing.
what I like about Road Runner is that they'll let you run on the shoes for a few minutes [no charge] to see how you feel them.

Here's a link to a handout my XC coach made about RUnning Shoes. It's really helpful.
http://eltorocc.com/g_Shoes.htm

good luck and happy runnin'

P.S: most running shoe stores will give you a 10% discount if you tell them you're a student and shoes your school ID [esp. Road Runner]

Best running shoes for long-distance?

My knees have began hurting after I go on runs, and I think it is time to replace my running shoes. I have the Nike+Apple thing, so I would prefer if it were Nike+. Thanks!

Answer
Go in to a running shoe store and say you want running shoes, period. They would have you run in a shoe to see how you run, which would indicate what type of shoe you need. Once they have an idea of what you need they should pull out several models and have you try them for comfort, have you put both pairs on and jog around the store to see which you like best. They should be half a size to a full size larger than your street shoes. If you go to a shoe store and they don't ask to see you run first thing to get an idea of your needs, find another store.
Good luck!

what are the best brands of shoes with GREAT arch support?

isabella

i have really high arches in my feet and need an athletic shoe with a lot of arch support.
right now i have kangaROOS which are the BEST shoes i've ever worn, but apparently they've stopped making the specific type i have and i cant find any womens shoes on their website.

i need some really comfortable shoes, i dont care what they cost i'll pay $200 if they're good shoes. does anyone know of really great brands that have a really high arch support?

im thinking about buying asics gel craze shoes, or something on zappos. does anyone have a pair of those and are they good shoes?

thanks.

Answer
Get asics thats what my cross country coach tells the whole team to get. Just make sure you get a pair with the plastic arch support thing on the bottom.

So I have some Adidas cilmacool running shoes and they are totally shot. I am currently looking to replace them. So far the some of the Nikes have really caught my eye. I have super flat feet and suffer from overpronation. Which type of nike shoe would be light, yet supportive for a flat footed person such as myself?? Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

Answer

best running shoes possible?

Ansam

i run a lot and my feet always ends up in pain and blisters, need real good running shoes, i am currenlty wearing my ed hardy shoes.

Answer
Saucony Men's KilKenny XC3 Spike Racing Shoe a half size larger based on reviews advising to do so. The shoe feels funky in the upper-third. It fits narrow and snug even with a half size lareger. The toe-box and area just past arch has an uncomfortable contour about the sole of the shoe. It looks cheaply made, however I did not try running in them, so they might actually be a quality running shoe. The soles are level, instead of being inclined toward the heel like so many typical running shoes have. This shoe is closer to a minimalist type of shoe. Therefore, it should promote a more natural forefoot landing when running, instead of landing on the heel first.

Why do I have foot pain, and how can I prevent/treat it?

Eugene

Hi,

I am a runner, and have been running the past few months. I run once or twice a week, and in the past two months have been increasing my long run. Each week I try to increase my long run two miles, going from 5 to 7 to 9 to 11 to 13. I have no problem with stamina, but recently (with the 1 mile and 13 mile runs) I have had terrible sharp pains in the outside of my feet. This occurs at about mile 7, and has only been occurring recently. Regular foot fatigue was normal for me, but this sharp pain is relatively new. It seems to hurt every time I step, especially when the road is not flat (ie downhill, uphill, or banked to the right or left). Strangely, I have concluded that this pain is more distinct when I run slower and less when I run quicker. For these long runs, I average about 5 miles per hour, relatively slow. I am wondering if I am over training, or if because I am running slower, there is a greater time that my weight pressures my foot. I have no history of being flat footed or having a high arch. This pain persists a very long time, about 5 or 6 days, until I can walk normally, without a somewhat limp. After resting a week, my feet were completely healed and I tried running 13 miles but the pain returned after a few miles and progressively became sharper. I could only run 9 miles, and by the end I was barely able to stand up because of the pain. I have looked online about it and could guess that I have Peroneal Tendonitis because there is little swelling/redness and I have have past ankle sprains. I have heard that wearing heal lifts are helpful, but am unsure of its effectiveness. I would really like to resolve this issue by preventing and treating it, so I can focus on my running, pain free. So please suggest prevention and treatment techniques, other than RICE. Please let me know if you need additional information.

Thank You,

Eugene
Additionally, I have Saucony running shoes that I got a few months ago. I admit they were cheap, only $30, perhaps this is part of the issue.

Answer
Hey have your tried athletic comfort shoes from http://www.drewshoe.com ? Athletic comfort shoes are design for people with similar situations that you are experiencing. Athletic comfort shoes will ventalize, soothe and comfort your feet much better then your normal running shoes.

What's up with this feeling in my foot (continued) Thanks for advice?

Well, the feeling is right below the ankle, kind of where that lumpy muscle or whatever it is stands out, which looks almost like a second ankle, there and right below it to the bottom of the foot.

It's where Peroneal Tendonitis occurs, and i wonder if that's what I even have.

I noticed when I rested it on that side, the outside of my right foot, it felt spongy inside.
It feels like there's a piece of tape on my foot coming off or stuck when I roll it forward too.

I think a lot of it had to do with the shoes, which were hand me downs, and that I run on uneven, tilted surfaces.

Answer
Yeah, it is called an inflamed tendon or sprained tendon. It will hurt until it heals and that can be a while because even if you are not training, you walk around putting pressure on it. I suggest RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation), also an over the counter anti-inflammatory.

See a doctor if you can before that 'piece of tape on your foot coming off' feeling becomes a 'piece of tape on your foot came off' feeling. And I agree that it probably had a lot to do with the shoes, which were hand me downs, and that you run on uneven, tilted surfaces.

Most comfortable, cushion-y, walking or running shoes for women?

-

I'm 14 and I'm going to an amusement park for a whole day in a week so I really need shoes for it. I'm not gonna be running, just walking, and I heard you can walk in running shoes so I don't really care if they're for running or walking. Last time I went to an amusement park I was wearing shoes with barely any support and I suffered the entire time, so I really need a pair that's comfortable and cushion-y and won't cause me foot pain. Anything under $100 retail price (I can just find it cheaper on eBay) is okay.

Answer
I have the same problem, my feet always hurt if I'm out for long. I have the Nike Crossfit trainers I bought a month ago, and they are just perfect. Literally perfect. They are pricier than some other models, but they're totally worth the money and you could get them online for less or on sale. The Nike Free Run shoes are really good too, I had mine for ages and they were really comfy.

why is there a women size?

jxj1326

it confuses things. Why cant we all just use the standard size run when it comes to shoes?

Women shoe sizes are 1.5 to 2 sizes measured up. So if women size 9, it is about a size 7 in men's. This is how it confuses people in shoe shopping. A woman comes to a store asking for a vans shoes in size 7. The sales associates asks 'is that in womens?' the women gets offended and says, 'of course, do i look like a man to you?' Then a clarification has to done that women sizes are run differently. Most people that come to my store think women's size means a women's shoe.

Answer
The sales associate is an idiot.

If a WOMAN asks for a shoe in any size, it should be assumed that she is requesting WOMEN'S sizing.

If she wanted a men's size 7 she'd have asked for it. EVERYONE knows that men's and women's shoe sizes are not the same.

Where can I buy Asics Gel Kayano XI running shoes?

SatAtmaKau

Any website (postal order) would be great- some stores don't seem to have the women's size 6 so that is what I am looking for. I live in London, UK.

Answer
Your local running store should be able to order the shoe for you. I work for a running store and if you were my customer, we would throw a wmns size 6 in with our kayano orders. If you go to www.asics.com you can look up retailers near you. Oh, and the XII is the current kayano out. Did you want the XI specifically? If so, they have those on www.eastbay.com. They are cheaper than the newer ones. I just checked the site and they do have your size. I have no idea if they ship to the UK.

Good luck.
