Can pain in my feet that goes away after walking a few feet be the cause of poor circulation?

Sometimes when I stand up after sitting a while, my feet hurt so badly that I can barely walk. After walking a few yards the pain subsides. I want to know what would cause this.

It could be either a bone spur or a condition called Plantar Fasciitis. I had the same thing in my early days of being a nurse, always on my feet. I would go through 3 -4 pairs of tennis shoes a year, so i bought the cheap ones and that's when the pain started. So now, instead of buying those $20 shoes, I buy running shoes and my pain went away. I've included a link from the mayo clinic that can explain this condition better then me. I hope this helps. You really need to go to a store that can look at your run; your stride, your foot strike, if you over probate etc...
These stores suggest the PERFECT shoe for you. It will prevent any injuries you may be susceptible to.
If you are not able to find a store such as this, nike has always been my go to shoe. I wore mizunos for my first three years of cross country and this season I got a pair of nike lunarglide +3. They were really comfortable but I noticed my stride isn't a heel strike so I just bought a pair of nike free run 4.0s today. You should go to a store called finish line. They are always super helpful with finding the perfect shoe and everyone I've encountered has been quite knowledgable about running and which shoe is good for you.

Step1
Examine the shoes. Are the insoles damp and causing the odor? Remove them and dry them. Or replace them with insoles formulated to kill bacterial growth, available at drugstores.

Step2
If the shoes are slightly damp, place them in the sun or near a heater and allow to dry thoroughly. Remove laces and lift the shoes' tongues to fully air out the shoes.

Step3
Put the shoes in a zipper-lock plastic bag and place them in the freezer overnight. The freezing temperatures will kill most odor-causing bacteria.

If odor remains after the freezing, pour baking soda into the shoes and leave it in overnight to absorb the odors. Or use products designed to remove shoe odor, which are available at supermarkets and drugstores.

You didn't say if you're male or female, so it's a little hard to recommend an exact model. I personally am a runner and prefer New Balance. I use to buy Nike and a few other brands but once I tried New Balance it's all I buy. They are made in the USA and are budget friendly. I pay around $60-$70 for shoes.

You want cheap shoes? I hate to say it but you will get what you pay for unfortunately. Go to your local Modell's, they usually have older models of running shoes by good brands such as New Balance, Nike, Asics and even addidas. Definately use a moisture wicking material when working out typically known as 'dry fit'. Cotton will just weigh you down & entrap the heat within your body making you feel more tired & sluggish. If you want to go cheap but decent; go to Kohls and check out Tek Gear. That is pretty good dry fit for a beginner. good luck : )

I have flat feet and I see all these shoes for people with Flat Feet...The Brooks Beast 10, Saucony Progrid Stable, Aspics Evolution 4 for example, but I have orthopedic inserts so does it really matter what shoes I get since I remove the insole that comes with the shoe anyways!

In most cases, adding a customized orthotic will increase the amount of motion-control you get from a shoe, which normally means you can go with a shoe that provides less control to start with. But every runner is different. A 100-pound woman needs a different amount of support in her shoes than a 200-pound man, for example, even if their biomechanics are similar.

So here's what to do: Next time you buy a pair of running shoes, bring your orthotics and your old shoes to your local specialty running store. The salespeople will have suggestions based on what they see. If they don't, find a shop that does, or seek out a footwear professional such as a pedorthist or podiatrist, either of whom will give you advice on how to make your shoes and orthotics work together.

i have such high arches that i can feel that i walk on the outsides of my feet.
i am very unstable when walking and i often twist my ankles and i believe its due to my high arches.
after exercising my shins hurt and when standing for long periods of time my heals hurt.
can anyone recommend a specific sneaker that will help with my high arches or at least describe the type of features i should be looking for?
i feel like most shoes aren't as soft and cushiony as i need them to be so that makes me want to wear something like tennis shoes cuz they are soft and cushy but at the same time idk if that would help or hurt my arch problem and idk if it would help me not walk on the outsides of my feet or not.

I also have super high arches. I am a long distance runner. I have a pair of asics. I also bought inserts that are made for high arches. If you have high arches, you are going to buy a cushioning shoe. (Normal feet need a stability shoe and flat feet need Motion control shoes.) If they are hurting around the house, get a pair of shoes, put your running inserts in them, and wear them in your house. My mother does that because she has high arches too and her feet are improving. (She used to walk around in socks and the shoes are really helping her feet!) Hope that helped!

Theatre Three has a couple of great comedy plays running right now that may be of some interest. There are also plenty of great restaurants in the area, so you can spend the least amount of time driving.

If music is your thing, I'd recommend Bend Studio (yoga by day, intimate concerts by night). My wife and I love the music here, and you can only get about 50-75 people in the room. Take your shoes off, bring some wine, and enjoy!

This is a great question and I would be careful about filing with your insurance. Here is what I would consider if I were in your shoes. Lets say you have a $500 deductible and the damages are $750 or even $1000. That means that you are going to have to pay the first $500 no matter what. After you make a claim they are going to keep that on your insurance record (which is checked every time you shop for insurance or renew a policy). This will increase your premiums every month and while it isnt a huge increase over time you are definitely going to pay it back. If I were you I would evaluate how much it would cost to fix myself and consider if it is worth paying a little extra to keep it off your record and potentially save you hundreds in the long run. I know people that get their windshields repaired at those "free windshield repair" place and they end up paying 3 times as much as the repair costed at their policy renewal. Yes, those count at comp claims on your auto insurance. Just be careful and always consider all options before taking the easy way out and getting yourself into trouble later on. I work at a brokerage called Integrity Risk Management in Dallas and this is probably our biggest questions.

Well it not only matters what type of ground you run on it is also about what your feet need. Keep your arms waist level and above, sometimes make fists and sometimes loosely cup them.

Any recommendations for K-Swiss Parkour Women Shoes?

I am a woman that has been practicing parkour for several months and think it's time to buy new shoes. Recently, I have been trying to do a horizantol wall run and could only do two steps with my Nike tennis shoes. I wanted to buy Nike Free Run Shoes since I am quite fond of Nike, but I heard they don't last long. So, I have been doing research and found out K-Swiss is one of the best options for parkour shoes for women. Which K-Swiss shoes would you recommend? They could be old shoes that existed no longer than 2 years ago...I want to buy a new pair that is still selling in stores. BTW please do not suggest me any men shoes, because my shoe size is 5, so I would not fit in any guy shoes.... Please list the full name of the K-Swiss shoes and your reasons. My budget would be $35.... I mostly practice on walls, not rails...

The best K-Swiss shoe for parkour I know of is K-Swiss Ariake. They've got a lot of traction, good support, and yes, they do come in women sizes. From reviews I've read most say they'll last for awhile since they have a lot of support (which is typical of a K-Swiss shoe) but keep in mind K-Swiss (or really any good running shoe) is going to be expensive. (Most K-Swiss shoes are at least 90 dollars)

Your right not to get Nike Free Run shoes. Even though flexible and light they have little grip and probably wouldn't help much on your wall runs. They're more meant for just running.

So maybe K-Swiss and Nike aren't great shoe departments for parkour. Which is understandable, neither of them have a parkour department. But there are traceurs out there who have designed and created shoes specifically for parkour and may be a little more in your price range.

1. KOs. KOs are shoes that have been designed by the WFPF (World Freerunning and Parkour Federation) and created to be "The Parkour Shoe" (they were tired of people asking them what shoes to get). Nonetheless its still a pretty good shoe and might be what you're looking for. Its got great grip, durability, support, and flexible (more flexible than most shoes its size). Plus they're like 39.99 which is a lot cheaper than the $100 Nike free runs or $135 K-Swiss Ariake. 2. Visions. Visions is a shoe distributed by Parkour Generations which is based in the UK so if you live outside of the UK then international shipping may be a concern on cost. 3. Feiyues. Feiyues, a shoe distributed in the U.S by American Parkour, is a great shoe. Its very light, very grippy, very flexible, and will easily tell and correct your mistakes. 4. Vibrams. Vibrams, a shoe most renown for their five finger shoes but have recently been making shoes with regular toe boxes. I love these shoes. I got them a year ago and they are the most comfortable footwear. They are the lightest thing in the world, super flexible, very grippy, durability is better than average, and specifically made to let your foot move naturally which helps strengthen your feet and ankles. You have to be careful when starting out with these shoes but I definitively say its worth it. If you do end up getting Vibrams I suggest getting a running pair.

I hope I helped but remember a shoe is just a performance enhancer. Ultimately you are going to be the one climbing up a wall not the shoe.

Should I start my cross country running season barefoot?

This is my second season running cross country and i love it. After reading "born to run" i have been inspired to run barefoot. But considering that cross country is about placing and speed i'm not sure i should. Is it actually faster running barefoot?

You know, the people who have said that it is not faster and so on are the people who do not run barefoot.

If your feet are conditioned to run barefoot it is only natural (excuse the pun) that you will run better and faster, because that it exactly how every person was designed to walk and run. You cannot expect to just kick of your shoes and start running barefoot. You do need to learn about toughening your feet and learning the different stride a barefoot runner will use, which is much less tiring than conventional running.

You will notice that Cathy Freeman grew up to be barefoot - that means her feet were like most Australia feet, quite tough and durable and ready to adapt to the natural features of the landscape. Yours will be, too, if you allow yourself proper training and time.

What kind of shoes/boots should I be using as my main footwear considering I'll be doing a lot of walking/hiking in those areas. Bringing hiking boots just for the hiking parts is out of the question due to their weight and bulk so I need something that's best for general purpose and will suffice for mountainous regions.

For serous hiking you need hiking boots, for a travel that long, hiking boots are the best choice for your first pair of shoes. You can take flipflops or sandals as second pair and you can wear those in warm weather.
You say that brining hiking boots for just the mountain parts of your journey is out of the question, that makes that you will have to wear your hiking boots for most of your travels. So select hiking boots you can also use in the hotter parts of your journey.

If most of your hiking will be in hot weather without insects or snakes to consider, you might go for hiking sandals and bring sneakers or running shoes as your second pair. But hiking sandals will not be enough to protect your ankles on rough mountain grounds, nor will they protect your toes from hits on rocks sticking out of the paths.

Diapers: 6-8 a day x 7= 49x 1 month (4) 196 a month 23.00
(assuming there's no flu bugs or anything)
Formula: $13 a can, 3 cans a week, 12 cans a month: $156.00
Clothing/shoes: we generally need new clothing and shoes every 2-3 months adding up to an average of $30 a week
Medical bills and vaccinations: an average of $75 a month with insurance.
hahaha insurance: $160 a month for the family.
toys: you've always gotta buy a new toy here and there about $10 a month
juice: at 7 months, my son has 4 small bottles of gerber juice a week- 16 bottles a month at 60 cents a bottle = 7.20
baby food: at 7 months my son eats about 2 jars a day at .80 cents a jar so that's close to $45
plus he eats about 1 thing of gerber puffs a week at $2 a can so that's $8 a month

Time off work due to child being sick needs to be factored in. I always figured in two days off a month for a budget. (day cares will not accept children with runny noses or coughs)
And also figure in that day care for infants under 6 months is hard to find. And often costs more.
let's not forget the high chair you'll be needing around 4-5 months old at about $50 and the bouncie seat at birth for $40 and a swing for close to $100, walker for $50.

Why is it important to use proper running shoes when running?

This is probably a stupid question, I just started running and i'm using cheap $20 runners from walmart. They don't hurt my feet. I think they do the trick.. But should I actually buy some proper running shoes?

Cheaper shoes usually weigh more and will fatigue your legs faster(expensive shoes can weight less than half a pound and feel like nothing is there). Shoes should also be fitted to the arch of your foot, cheap shoe usually just have a generic arch that is bad for your feet. Next is arch support, with the cheap shoes you will feel it the next day. The grip on the bottom of the shoe should keep your foot stable. You also want the shoe to fit nicely to your foot, almost feel like it is part of your foot. If it is loose you can easily roll your ankle You should also make sure the shoe have comfortable heel support. Your calf muscle could be pulled from wearing improper shoes, and they will definately be sore the next day. The expensive shose will cut a lot of time off of your runs. I use to run Cross country and half marathons and the right shoes could cut as much as 30 secs off your mile times. The right shoes are important if you are a serious runner, but if you are only going for jogs every now and again walmarts should do fine.

Ugh, Maxime, this is my Y!A fear coming home to roost. Adam W was likely my other account, and I likely was promoting Avias before I had better information.

Avia shoes wear out quickly. They start out very comfortable, but progress to causing aches and pains much sooner than other brands. I had a series of problems which I thought were related to a variety of other things, but most of it turned out to be my crappy shoes. Stay away from Avia shoes.

You can get higher quality shoes like Nike, ASICS, and New Balance on sale if your timing is good. Typically at the beginning and end of running seasons, they discount athletic shoes to clear out stock and make room for new styles that all of the high school runners "must" have.

I am just starting out and I have been recommended to go to Showtimedanceshoes.com and they have a really wide selection of brands /prices... I don't mind spending over $100.00 but is there a difference in the quality? Should I just stick to the $80.00 pair for now for practice?

I like Very Fine or Go Go Dance. They run under $60.

If you're just starting out, get something less expensive until you decide what type of shoe you like or if there's a dance style you want to pursue (smooth or Latin, or swing, or Argentine tango).
If you're a woman, you might decide on a higher or lower heel, a more tapered heel, open toe or closed toe, etc.

I am looking for a good woman's shoe. My feet are on the narrow side and I have high arches. I run on cinder tracks but frequently I run on the road. I don't mind paying extra if it is worth it. So, what is the price range for good running shoes and which brands should I go for?

Check out department stores in the late fall/early winter. Last year's styles will be on sale to make room for the new models for the upcoming track and field season. You can typically get shoes that would have cost $100 or more last spring for under $50, some as cheap as $25 or $30. If you have a Kohl's near you, its a good place to start.

I typically wear Nike or ASCICS, New Balance are good as well. For the mileage you're running, a pair of running shoes will last you a very long time.

I have fairly high arches and some foot problems so extra cushioning would be a plus. Also, are those shoes that tone your body work at all? I have heard they put extra strain on your joints.

Ok...first things first. High arches indicates that you under-pronate meaning you need a cushioning shoe. My suggestions are the Asics 2150 & 2160 model, Asics Nimbus or Kayano. Brooks Adrenaline 10 or Ravenna, Nike Lunarfly and Lunar Glide.

Secondly...sorry to say, no there is absolutely no research to support that Sketchers Shape-Ups or Reebok's Easytone and Runtone shoes do anything in terms of muscle toning or enhance running performance in any way. The theory behind these shoes is that by landing on an unstable surface it sends a signal to the brain to contract more stabilizing muscles along the leg in order to maintain balance. Again, this is the theory and has not been subjected to testing by either shoe company. A woman came into Dick's Sporting Goods where I work as the "Running Specialist" with a broken Cuboid bone, a weight bearing bone in the foot, after exercising in a pair of Reebok Easytones.

There is however scientific studies conducted on the benefits of a more minimalistic approach. This however takes a lot of time and dedication to more to a more barefoot experience and something which I suggest with the warning of taking it slow. If you choose this route I'd suggest trying the Adizerio Sonic by Adidas or the Brooks Green Silence as transition shoes from a heel strike pattern to a forefoot striking pattern. One you can safely land on your forefoot for many miles I'd suggest trying something like Vibram Five Fingers.

To improve on your endurance, you need to practice running distances about twice as far as your event.

Key for running shoes -

The better the shock absorption is the better the shoe is. Whenever possible, it is best to try them on before a purchase.

An ideal shoe will fit your foot like a slipper. Your running shoes are the key to staying injury free. Knowing how to use them will enhance your speed. You can wear any type of shoe you want for training in. But you should have a second pair of shoes just for racing in.

Oversize Trainers To Improve Your Speed -
The best type of trainer to wear is one that is either a half or full size too large for your feet. Buy a high quality cushion inset sole and place it in the shoe. This gives your feet added shock absorption protection. This could be a big help against Shine Splints. If one foot is longer than the other, buy the trainers based on the longest foot.
Except for hurdlers practicing their hurdle form, use this shoe for all of your running practices, including high speed sections. When you change shoes for races, you will find that your feet feel light and that your race time results are constantly on the speedy end of your speed range.

Shoes For Racing In:
A racing shoe (flats or spikes) that properly fits your foot and used for race purpose only, will enhance your speed. These shoes are normally very light but do not support your feet like trainers. You can make many brands of racing shoes feel very comfortable for use without soaks by placing a thin, soft cushion, flat insole in it. Replace the insoles when they begin to show signs of wear or when they are flat in your impact area. Insoles and arch supports can be bought in some grocery stores. If you use arch supports, place it in your racing shoe too. If one foot is longer than the other, buy this pair of shoes based on the shortest foot. However, if the toes on the longer foot are knuckling up in the shoe, then the shoes are too short - get a longer pair.

Hurdler shoe issue:
Shoes play a huge part of helping a hurdler be fast, especially in the short distance hurdles. This is not practical, but hurdlers need three pairs of track shoes. They need their proper foot fitting racing spikes, they need a pair of proper fitting running shoes for hurdle work practices only and, they need their oversize comfortable running shoes with extra cushion protection for all other running activities.

Wearing Spikes To Train In:
There are times when using spikes in a training section is very important to the athlete. Sprinters, hurdlers, pole vaulters, javelin throwers; long, triple and, high jumpers should wear their spikes when trying to calibrate their steps and starting block position. Once the measurements have been established with your spikes on, take them off and put on your trainers. Use your trainers to find the location of your established starting points. The order of finding your points should be with spikes first and then with trainers, never the other way around. This is because trainers vary too much in size, shape and, length for the same size foot - change your trainers and you change the dimension of your foot. For this group of people, knowing how to find your precise starting points with your racing shoes on, assures you a consistent range of high end results for your discipline.

Here are some general tips.

Where your nose is, does not determine what size of snowboard you should ride!

...or your chin, ears, shoulders or any other body part for that matter. These are the silliest rules for sizing boards that could possibly be imagined, and yet they persist. We hear new ones everyday, "my friend told me that a board should come to in between my chin and my nose." Why, are you planning to nibble on it? These generalities are good ways to end up with a completely inappropriate board. Why do such rules exist, you ask? It is due to the fact that finding the right board takes a bit of research and knowledge. The easy way, however incorrect, is much quicker. A snowboard reacts to only two factors, how much pressure is being applied to it (weight), and where that pressure is coming from (shoe size). Boards are designed around riders of a certain weight. The total weight range for a given board will be around 50 pounds (although manufacturers tend to exaggerate this range to make their products sellable to a wider variety of customers). Two men who stand six feet tall and have their noses at identical heights, may be separated by 100 pounds of weight. This would change the boards they should ride by two entire categories of stiffness, and length. You will also want to make sure that the board is appropriate for your shoe size. One half to three quarters of an inch of overhang (yes, overhang) off the edge of your board is ideal (when wearing snowboard boots, and measured at the stance angle that you will ride). We will discuss this more below when we address width in detail.

There is no best level of stiffness for a board!

At least five times a day we hear,"the guy at mountain told me that I want a soft board." This is the part that we were discussing above that relates to weight. Snowboards react to pressure that is applied to that hourglass shape (sidecut) that they have. This shape, when flexed, creates an arc on the snow. You are planning on turning on that arc. If you can't flex the sidecut into the snow (because the board is too stiff for you) you simply can't turn well, or not at all. If the board is too soft for your weight, it will constantly be overflexing, and "twisting off" of the edge that you are relying on to carve. In this scenario you will have a terrible time on hardpack and ice, because the "effective edge" (amount of edge that should be in contact with the snow) will be twisted out of shape, and not doing it's job. Softer flexing boards tend to be better for lighter riders, while stiffer boards are needed for the big boys. Only for extreme freestyle, or extreme race applications, should this rule be broken (and in those instances, a second board will be needed for all mountain riding).

Buying by length is the hardest way to end up with the right board!

"My last board was a 156, and I liked it, so tell me about the 156's that you carry." The trick here, is that two boards of identical length, may be designed for completely different riders and types of riding. For example a 156 may be a "big mountain board" for a small woman, or a "park" board for a big guy, depending on the manufacturer's design plan. Those two boards, however, would never be appropriate for the same rider. Length is often discussed in terms of: longer equals faster, and more stable, while shorter equals more maneuverable. This can also be deceptive. The "running surface" of a board (the base area that contacts the snow) is a useful measurement, because this is the amount of board that you actually are riding upon. The overall length (the measurement usually considered) can be misleading, as it also contains the raised tip and tail, which do not contact the snow, and have only nuance differences in affecting your ride. Your best bet is research. Look into who the board was made for, and for what type of riding. Leave the rules of thumb to the rental guys, who are trying to get through the line of renters as quickly as possible, and get on the slopes (can't blame 'em for that).
