What is the best running shoe for a stocky guy. I am about 5'9 and 210 and i lift constantly. I would like to start into running more than just a mile here and there. The issue is i am big and i run on the outside of my feet(overpronated or supination). Any help? I am looking for style brand etc.

The best running shoe is the one that fits you. Any of the shoe companies make shoes that fit slightly differently. You need to try them on.
Your feet swell a bit when you run, so the best time to try some on is after a run, or later in the day, when you've been on your feet for a while. Wear the type of socks that you would wear running.
If you are concerned about support, or have specific foot/leg issues/pains that you need to address, go to a running specialty store, where they really know the shoes, are experienced working with different types of runners, and may even be able to put you on a treadmill and video your gait to see and show you what your foot is really doing.

What are some qualities of running shoes? My coach told us to get some running shoes, but I do not know what to get. What are some defining aspects of running shoes? Where can I get a decent pair for a decent price?

Cushioning is #1(and maybe #2 and #3 as well). Some shoes are designed for motion control for runners that have overpronation or supination, etc., but I'm not sure it's a big help. Differences between shoes include things like weight, flexibility, construction(full slip vs half), outsole pattern and durability. Every manufacturer will claim their system of cushioning gives your more than anyone elses, but it's mostly hype. Fit and feel for you will be the most important things in the end. Additionally, some shoes are better for high milage than others so you should match the kind of running you'll be doing to the shoe.
