I lived in Minneapolis and I would see women in running shoes and a stylish work outfit. During the lunch hour they would be speedwalking, arms bent at 90 degrees.

NO WAY!
Those women are just trying to be stylish & athletic at the same time. You don't go to the gym in your work outfit & you don't wear running shoes with it either. It's like going to the gym in high heels, it just looks dumb.
