Q. I recently started to do brisk walking and have lost 40 pounds. I am also following a healthy eating program. My feet are on fire from the balls of them to the tips of my toes after about 30 minutes of walking. I have no sign of athletes foot or blisters. does anyone know if this can be a form of detox? I used to be a runner and never had this type of experience. I have even bought these awesome MBT shoes and am using socks made for running. Also my toes start to tingle and almost feel numb. I have varicous veins so I take supplements for circulation. I would love to hear any ideas.

Answer
I also get the tingly/numb toes. I went to a sneaker store and found out that I have a high instep. The way my sneakers were laced, the circulation to the front of my foot was reduced when I walked.
They showed me how to lace my sneaks to account for it, and the problem went away.

Excercises to help get on pointe?

My ballet teacher said that I won't be getting on pointe for another year because I have a bad turnout and I can't get on the balls of my feet. Can you tell me some good exercises and stretches to help my turnout and getting on the balls of my feet?
Thanks so much!

Answer
I didn't really develop my arches until i started to work on them at the beginning of this year. My new dance teacher is totally obsessed with having beautiful arches. So don't listen to the other answer because you can do something about it. Some students use a footstretch, but they are expensive and i can't really see the point. This is what mine look like now i can now touch the floor with my toes when pointing down to the ground with legs flat on the ground.
it won't let me post the pic sorry :(
I did lots of tendus and really worked on my footwork and got a friend to try to lightly push on my foot to get it to touch the ground until i could do it myself. I have a naturally high instep so i am unsure what to do about your rolling foot problem. The turm out can be easily fixed. Even though it sounds weird you could put on a pair of running shoes or shoes with grip on the bottom and stand on a wood floor and turn out. this will cause resistance in the shoes and stretch your foot out. It's what my ballet teacher asked us all to do. Just stand still in 1st position for 5 minutes and do this a few times with breaks inbetween. IT REALLY WORKED FOR ME!!
