How do I walk successfully in 3 inch heels?

I just bought the cutest shoes ever, but they are higher than I have ever worn before. What tips can you offer on how to wlk successfully (i.e., without falling on my face or behind)?? Thx!

I work 12 hr days on a medical surgical floor. I now am wearing a pair of birkenstocks with the strap on the back, but I have disliked these shoes ever since I wore them the 1st day. I only continued to wear them because I spent so much money on them. The new shoes can be tennis shoes or anything comfortable. Any reccomendations? PS I wear a womens size 12. Probably because I have spent the last 11 yrs walking all day and it made my foot much bigger. I started out nursing wearing a size 9.
