I am trying to look for new running shoes. I am picking up running again slowly after having "runner's knee" and am looking for the best type of shoe that will give me lots of cushioning and also work with some slight overpronation. i heard that brooks and asics were good. i was wondering about adidas and of any other specific type of shoe out there that may be worth giving a try.

I'm assuming you mean medium or average arch (as opposed to low or high arch)?

The best one is the one that works for you, and you really can't find that until you go to a specialty running store and try things on with a professional assisting you.

You don't want to simply go by brand name or what has worked for someone else. When you actually try things on (and in some cases go up or down a 1/2 size from usual), you'll likely be pretty sure which shoe is actually "yours."

That having been said, the Asics 2000 series (2110, 2120, now updated to 2130) is one of the most popular "standards" out there, and is a stability shoe that would help with your slight overpronation. If you needed a little more cushioning, you'd probably do that via the insole.

Another that's very popular recently (especially for those coming off injuries and/or who want a lot of cushioning) is the Nike Vomero 2. You could probably then find an appropriate (stability) insole for it as needed for your arch and slight overpronation.

I would make sure to include those shoes in anything you try at a store, but a professional salesperson and trying things on is going to help you more than anyone online.

You know - I was having a problem with plantar fascitis -- so I went to the newbalance.com website -- and there I was able to email a professional who gave me sound advice based upon my activity level, weight etc. Give them a try -- I was extrememly happy with the sneakers that they reccommended. OR if you have a store called "The Athlete's Foot" - go in and have them do an evaluation on you - basically all you do is walk across a mat and a computer analyzes your walk/foot problems etc.
